"If you could hear, at every jolt, the blood come gargling from the froth-corrupted lungs, obscene as cancer, bitter as the cud. Despite the growing tensions in the area, the new Prince Consort of The Empire of Rubrus, Pashkov Sadoski, quickly asserts himself. Reaching out to Queen Maya Aristov, of The Kingdom of Ilastiri, the Prince Consort suggests a treaty of continued peace between the three nations, so closely linked through shared history and culture. Wary of war, Queen Maya agrees to the agreement, wishing the newly weds happiness and suggesting that the nations build on their relationship further in the future.

The Three City's Republic of Ianian makes an impressive offer to The Echyan Empire, offering financial aid if the Empire sells it's colonial holdings to the Republic. With it's homeland under increasing threat, the Empire cannot even contemplate selling it's colonies, which offer a very real source of escape from the armies of it's enemies, as well as a constant, reliable source of income. Regrettably, they refuse the offer, but implore that the Three City's do not take it as a slight.

1st of September

The Redcliff Empire announces the implementation of a minimum wage across it's nation. While this is undoubtedly a groundbreaking and revolutionary move, it staggers many of the governments critics. With war consuming the nation, raids continuing all along their coastline, their colonies seized from them, the colonies they still hold a maelstrom of rebellion and bloodshed, Redcliff cities held by their enemies, and their economy falling through the floor, this seems a bizarre and irrelevant move. Regardless, the scheme is rolled out across the nation.

The newly crowned King Pieter Mátyás, of The Kingdom of Sescosi, does not rest on his laurels. His people are bloodied, to the south, the province of Osnic teeters on the brink. But for the capital, Larymnas, the storm has been weathered. Although the cost was high, it has forged an iron resolve within Sescosi hearts. Fresh troops are marching to re-enforce them from the northern provinces, the army of The Redcliff Empire has arrived at the city gates, and forces of The Kingdom of Ubren are also moving to aid them. The King announces a day of mourning, both for his father, and for the thousands of men that lay down their lives to hold the city, but once the day has passed, he turns to the future, training his remaining army and preparing to march south.

6th of September

A diplomatic party of The Republic of Toubres makes the long journey east, sailing through the ice-cold waters to the north as they skirt The Kingdom of Aontas. Aontas is not their intended destination, instead they continue westwards, until they arrive into a port of The Empire of Rubrus. They are greeted by the local government, and their arrival is quickly announced to the Empress. Driven by curiosity, the Empress herself travels to meet the diplomatic party, who congratulate her on her new marriage, and suggest that Toubres, and the alliance of Rubrus and The Kingdom of Claidor should look into building ties between the three great nations.

The army of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar continues its march towards Osnic, joining with a force of The Republic of Oflua. They reach the city uncontested, and begin preparing for a siege. Buoyed by the promise of support from the north, the garrison of the city dig in, preparing for a long siege.

In the colonies of The Empire of Attolia, a recruitment drive begins. Echoing the strategy already employed by The Republic of Toubres just months earlier, the Empire announces raising native regiments, forming the Attolian Colonial Legion. The plan is initially met with only moderate support. In a world suddenly full with pushes to allow natives to become citizens relatively easily, the required seven years of good service to earn the same rights under the Attolian scheme seems too extreme to many natives. Regardless, some natives do take up the offer, and a handful of regiments are raised.

The Republic of Oflua, still reeling slightly from its defeat at the Siege of Larymnas, and at the Battle of the River Kairis, takes a moment to rethink it's strategy. As allies continue to flood to to the aid of The Kingdom of Sescos, the Republic turns to some of it's own allies. Opening it's borders to the north, the Republic calls for The Kingdom of Ilastiri to send forces to join the fight. Ilastiri hesitates, mulling over the decision for several days. However with the recent decreased threat of war on it's own borders, and it's other neighbor recently reinstating it's support for The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar, the Kingdom makes the bold step of announcing its support for The Republic. Through that, Ilastiri announces war on The Kingdom of Sescos, mobilizes it's armies, and another player enters the war.

In an impressively planned operation, The Empire of Attolia tackles the unwieldy beast that is administration. The scheme takes on wasteful spending head on and, in what is a surprise to everyone, not least the organizers themselves, it proves to be a remarkable success. The administration of Attolia is whipped into shape, and the cost plummets to record lows.

Continuing the building of their relationship with The Akkadian Empire,The Three City's Republic of Ianian suggests the formation of a defensive pact, as well as forming The European Trading League, granting Akkadia exclusion from the Mediterranean Tax, as well as encouraging greater trade between the two nations. While Akkadia has certainly enjoyed its growing bond with the Republic, the recent developments to the south of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar prevents Akkadia from complying with the Republic's request for troops to be shipped to aid in the defense of the Three City's. They accept the League, and the defensive pact, promising to aid the Republic if war does erupt, but for now, their priority is the matters closer to home.

The Republic of Toubres, evidently keen to further cement their naval strength, begins constructing new vessels, to supplement their already impressive fleet. These new ships will be cutting edge, employing all of the Republic's naval prowess. Not only will they be some of the finest ships to ever sail the oceans of the world, they are also a clear sign of intent. With the greatest colonial holdings of any of the European powers, and one of the most powerful navies, Toubres is quickly becoming a global power.

21st of September

Continuing to show their support for The Kingdom of Sescos, The Redcliff Empire offers to send the entire Resdian force to support the Kingdom. Unsurprisingly, Sescos accepts, and the Redcliff force finds themselves with the problem of moving the soldiers to where they need to be. With naval superiority firmly in the hands of their enemies, sailing their troops the entire distance would be suicide. They instead intend to sail the short distance to the Redcliff mainland, and then march the remaining distance, somehow navigating through Echyan controlled land. Unfortunately their wariness does not save them. Almost as soon as they embark, the Echyan navy intercepts them. The few that survive are forced to retreat back to the relative safety of Resdian.

23rd of September

Just days after their catastrophic loss surrounding the province of Resdian, The Redcliff Empire calls on one of it's closest allies, The Hastel Dominions, to join it in the war. The Dominions are torn, they cannot deny the call of their ally, and the conflict is literally on their doorstep, but the increasing military actions of The Kingdom of Vendsyssel to their east leaves them wary of over-committing themselves too far from their borders. Regardless, they do not ignore the call, sending a force south, and officially declaring war on The Kingdom of Sescos and it's allies.

25th of September

The Three City's Republic of Ianian, in what is a clear reaction to the mustering of an army belonging to The Holy Territories of Edoniras on their border, finish constructing a series of forts and artillery emplacements along every major road into their territories. Although the cost is high for such extensive defenses, the Republic's economy is able to handle it, and it turns the prospect of invading the Three City's into a daunting one.

28th of September

Continuing it's string of revolutionary new reforms, The Empire of Attolia strives to improve the effectiveness of it's agricultural practices, employing new farming machines across the nation. The new principles are successful, encouraging the continued industrialization, as people continue to flock from the trade of farming towards more modern and industrial careers.

30th of September

As The Kingdom of Aontas seems to hesitate, The Republic of Toubres does not waste the opportunity. Another colony is claimed by the Republic, with Matos being founded. Due to already sharing borders with other colonies of Toubres, and it's people sharing a cultural history with natives already enjoying life beneath the Republic's rule, the colony quickly settles into it's new role.

William Fraser

William whistled as he rode. The tune was one he couldn't recall the name of, or indeed how he knew it at all, and he was only half paying attention to it. The other half of his attention was focussed on recalling the events of the night before. He’d ridden into Dumfries just before sunset, and it had only been a matter of hours before he was enjoying the company of a particularly friendly young woman with hair like fire called...

The whistling paused for an instant as William frowned, the girl’s name evading him for a moment before he smiled, whistling resuming. Rachel was her name, he remembered that now. Even the fact that he had had to slip out of her bed in the early hours of morning to avoid the wrath of an irate father keen to avenge the besmirching of his daughter’s ‘honour’ couldn’t dampen William’s high spirits. The road was peaceful, the sun making a rare appearance overhead, and the air was fresh. Just a few years past, the journey would have been far more fraught with danger, but wards and other protections and incantations were scattered all across the countryside, and the Soulless had become little more than an idle concern. Besides, if some half-starved Ryne decided to emerge from its lair, it wouldn’t find William easy prey, with the dirk at his hip, and the kopis strapped across his back.

The sudden increase in other traffic on the road pulled William out of his reminiscing, and he saw that he was approaching a town, or even a city, perched on the coastline. He shrugged slightly, nudging Azrael forwards. As he moved further into the city, the streets only got busier, but few cast a second glance at the newcomer or the handsome, black gelding that he rode. It was clear there was something else far more pressing for the local populace, and William resolved himself in finding out. That, of course, meant his destination could only be the local tavern. A light smile danced across William’s face as he continued through the dirty, crowded streets. The energy that buzzed in the air, and the potential for some excitement, were things that William hadn’t encountered for months, and he intended to enjoy it for as long as possible.

A quick query to a passing tradesman pointed him in the right direction, but failed to shed much light on the news that had set the city abuzz, only fractures of rumours, of ships sailing into harbour from the south. Nonetheless, William pushed on, and shortly arrived outside the unmistakable noise and shape of a local inn, its clientele already overflowing out onto the street. Dismounting Azrael with practice ease, William handed the horses reins over to the enthusiastic groom that hurried to greet him, along with a smile, and a handful of coins for his service. With a confident walk, William pushed open the tavern doors and walked inside. Glancing around, he saw that several others had also had the same idea of making their way to the tavern, in fact it seemed half the city were there, and a pair just ahead of him seized the last table. Not one to be so easily dissuaded, William strolled to the bar, smiling at the old man behind it.

”Good day to you, sir. Are you always this busy, or is there some special occasion?”

The Jinje Kingdom sends an urgent message to The Empire of Attolia. They report that a bedraggled group, nearly delirious with hunger, thirst and exhaustion, has stumbled across their borders from the north. They recognize one of the figures as Admiral Topi Valtonen himself, and the message recounts the fractured and rambling story that the Admiral tells. The Jinje Kingdom gave the Attolian fleet new supplies, and bid them good luck on their onwards voyage nearly three months ago, and the Admiral claims that they encountered another great civilization to the north that called itself The Shuren Dynasty. The Attolian fleet was welcomed, and invited to dock at one of the nation's great ports. But they had barely disembarked before they were fell upon, the ships burnt and the men slaughtered. Only a few hundred survived, and they were thrown into dungeons, tortured for information of 'The West'.Somehow, the Admiral, and a handful of his officers and marines, were able to escape, and began the long, almost aimless trek south. It is by sheer luck that they found their way to the territories of Jinje.

The army of The Republic of Oflua, still bloodied from it's failed Siege of Larymnas, marches towards the city of Sarad in The Kingdom of Sescos province of Osnic. The fleet of the Republic, returning from it's remarkable success in the Strait of Nalci, begins bombarding the city days before the army arrives. By the time they do, the small, ill-equipped, and battered garrison of Sarad, demoralized by the news of defeat at Visev, surrenders. 'The Siege of Sarad' lasts a matter of hours, and leaves only the City of Osnic keeping the province under Sescosi control.

With no army to stop them, the Province of Ventir is officially claimed by the Echyan Empire.

Morale rises, and religious celebrations erupt amongst the remaining Sescosi cities.

15th of August

Prince Pieter Mátyás of The Kingdom of Sescos returns to Larymnas at the head of his army. Heavily delayed by raids from the remaining forces in the area of The Republic of Oflua, the army is not greeted with celebrations along the street, the people of the city beaten and broken. Regardless, the Prince marches to the High Cathedral of the city, and is officially crowned. A Prince enters, but it is a King that emerges.

The intent is clear, the nations that side with the Three City's Republic will benefit from the Republic's extreme wealth, and as forerunners in the Industrial movement, the Republic can offer much. Akkadia welcomes these industrialists, and allows them to work on revolutionizing the Empire's industry.

The journey is difficult, crossing unknown and un-mapped regions with difficult environments and extreme weather, but eventually, the survivors of the journey reach their destination. They are met by ships of the Toubrian and resupplied as they establish the Toubrian Colony of Fontes.

Cobalt's patience ran out. The smirk that had danced across his lips at the playful tone in the lady's voice disappeared in a flash. The simply stubbornness, and the bluntness, almost ironic considering the curved beak of his mask, almost blindsided Cobalt. His fist tightened, and it took all his strength to stop himself from striking the man where he sat. Grimacing slightly for an instant, he forced a smile, clearly sarcastic, too many teeth, his mouth too twisted for it to be genuine. He rose suddenly to his feet, slamming his hand against the top of the shell that half covered the man's chair. The sound was a dull metallic sound, but Cobalt didn't hear it. When he spoke, his voice was low, and dark.

"Perhaps I was wrong to ask a cripple. I can only hope that your condition doesn't... worsen during our time together. Sir."

The last syllable was like ice, almost spat from Cobalt's mouth, dripping with venom. Still barely containing himself, he turned sharply to the lady again. Nodding curtly, his voice was still low, although lacking some of it's previous edge.

"Apologies, miss. Another time, I hope."

Yanking his pocket watch from his pocket, Cobalt glanced at it, frowning as he turned to face the servant, the young man who had identified himself as Owen, and whose perch was only a few paces from where Cobalt stood. He shouted to be heard above the roar of the engine.

"Can you get this bloody thing moving? I don't know about the rest of these 'esteemed' guests, but I don't intend on freezing to death in some godforsaken forest all night!"

Sitting back down into the seat with some force, Cobalt did what he could to turn it away from the man still sitting beside him, eliciting a low rattling, although he only managed to rotate a few degrees. Reaching for his pipe again, Cobalt cursed out loud as he again remembered he had left it behind. Balling his fists, Cobalt leant back in his chair, jaw squared.

A sizeable fleet, belonging to The Republic of Oflua, sails south from it's home port, and enters the Nalci Strait from the north. From the south, the reformed and reinforced fleet of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar enters the Strait from the south. Realizing too late, the entire naval strength of The Kingdom of Sescos finds itself trapped within the Strait, and within their harbour at Visev. The city is already under a vicious siege, but it is in the surrounding seas that the fiercest fighting occurs. The combined fleet of Dashkatar and Oflua begins relentless raids on the docked Sescos fleet, destroying any ships that try to escape the blockade. With their naval superiority broken, and their supply lines cut, the garrison of Visev finds their position suddenly weakened.

The sieging army of The Republic of Oflua launches a massive assault against the walls of Larymnas, seeking to break The Kingdom of Sescos garrison before the quickly approaching relief arrives. The walls are breached, and what follows is a bloody and frantic skirmish, every street becoming a battlefield, every house a foxhole. The city is on the brink, falling so close to defeat that King Bakos Mátyás himself takes up his sword and joins the fray. Somehow, the Ofluan army is beaten back, and street by street they are driven from the city. But the cost is almost insurmountable, blood running in the gutters, and the body of the King himself lies broken, in the shadow of the great gate to the inner city that he gave his life to defend.

In the Colonies of North East Africa, an army of The Redcliff Empire forms, and marches north. In a shocking and unforeseen move, the Redcliff army marches troops over the border, into the territory of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar. While the army marches in high spirits, the colonists that they leave behind are aghast. Before long, news of the garrisons total departure reaches the rebels, and a massacre quickly follows. What colonists remain flee, and the Colonies of both South Otto and Ottomas cannot be considered under Redcliff control any longer, instead raising the flag of the newly formed nation of Naziim.

15th of July

They march south, intending to join the continuing offensive of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar. The celebrations in the city are muted. Thousands upon thousands of citizens and soldiers of The Kingdom of Sescos lie dead, and the nation is in mourning over the death of their beloved king.

The Siege of Visev continues. The combined fleets of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar and The Republic of Oflua shatters the trapped fleet of The Kingdom of Sescos, and begins bombarding the city itself. Although heavily fortified, the garrison of Visev finds itself outnumbered. The waves of assault from Dashkatar begins to wear down the defences, and it becomes likely that the siege may soon draw too a close, the garrison physically unable to continue the battle.

24th of July

Walls hammered and broken by the cannons of the fleet in the harbour, the army of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar breaks through and shatters the garrison. The fighting is violent, brutal, but ultimately brief. Before the day ends, the city flies the flag of Dashkatar, and the army prepares for it's next move.

Cobalt didn't respond to the strangely dressed woman, that was the first to follow him. But he couldn't help but look after her as she strode past. Her full face mask was an oddity, but it was the sky-blue hair that was most curious to Cobalt. He couldn't recall seeing anyone with that shade of hair during his travels, and decided he would strive to discover what leant it it's unnatural hue. His attention was quickly pulled back to his immediate surroundings as he felt fabric running against his leg.

He turned in time to see the tall and slender owner of said fabric stepping past him. He had noticed the woman before, but seeing her up close, she only intrigued him further. The intricately decorated volto mask that she wore concealed everything but her eyes, but he couldn't help but appreciate what he could see, the dark dress that draped across the slim figure. To his surprise, she turned to him after taking her seat, sighing slightly before speaking, the voice seeming like music after the frigid cold, and the pounding noise of the engine.

He smiled widely, turning his body towards her as he replied, his voice soft as he resorted to his usual charm, his dark eyes meeting her blue.

"A little cold, but all the warmer now I'm in your company, Miss..."

Before their conversation could continue, it was suddenly cut short by a figure taking the seat between them. Cobalt's smile faded for an instant, before he regained his composure. The figure was one of the handful of other male guests, a distinctive bird-like mask on his face. Cobalt shifted slightly, preparing to rise as he spoke to the man, his very voice oozing politeness.

"Pardon me, sir, but I hope you won't be adverse to us trading seats? I was hoping to continue conversing with the young lady."

Having stepped through the imposing gates, Cobalt glanced around, almost absentmindedly, at the other guests as they stepped through after him. He allowed himself a slight smile as he watched the string of well-dressed young woman, subconsciously straightening up to his full height, but he didn't speak, and he gave them little more than passing looks. The time for socialising could wait, for now he was simply curious, taking in his surroundings as he glanced around. He patted the pockets of his overcoat, searching for his pipe, before remembering he had forgotten to take it with him. He frowned slightly, resolving instead to put his hands into his pockets, to escape the biting cold. He shifted slightly, wincing at the aches that were a reminder of his ride to the house.

Cobalt flinched slightly at a sudden whistle, and turned to see more servants seemingly stepping from the undergrowth. He watched them emerge, moving to tend to the horses left behind by the guests. A short servant, little more than a boy, tentatively approached Winter, but the gelding gently brought his head towards him, letting the servant take a hold of his reins. Satisfied that the horse was taken care of, Cobalt turned back to the sprawling grounds of Shadowell as an otherworldly sound sprung up, and began to draw closer to the group.

The 'vehicle' was peculiar to look at, and totally alien to Cobalt, but glancing around at his new companions, he shrugged. Stepping forward, he smiled towards the man, who had introduced himself as Owen, and spoke, his breath misting in the cold air.

"An unusual welcome, but I'm always open to new experiences."

With as much dignity as he could manage, Cobalt made his way past the pulsing engine and took his seat on the furthest forward chair, before turning to watch how the other guests reacted.

Autumn of 1799

1st of July

The 1st Army of The Eternal Hadeen of Dashkatar continues it's march, and reaches The Empire of Sescos city, Visev. The city itself is heavily fortified, due to it's key position of controlling the Strait. The bulk of the Sescosi Navy has also returned to dock there, and they turn their cannons against the 1st Army, even as they begin to lay siege. With unrivalled naval superiority, the Sescosi are able to bring fresh supplies into the city unchallenged, and it quickly becomes clear that the siege will not be a short one.
