Man, MGS3 Ocelot's gun-spinning noise is bizarrely pleasant. Damn near ASMR fodder.

New Akuma actually looks kinda cool moveset-wise. Now I have to hope in my heart of hearts that Makoto or someone more interesting gets in.

[@Shoryu] I'll concede XvSF and Marvel 1, but the 3v3 format is iconic now. That's not to say I disagree that MvC is typically a mess. Shout outs to "ZOOP ZOOP" Zero.

[@Mr Allen J] The whole situation with the different Marvel properties is a goddamn mess. New MAHVEL being 2v2's already got me worried about the roster.

Ya boii is down to clown.
Quick note: I'll most likely update the OP with a character skeleton. It might be a good idea to give everyone a peek at what they'll need to have on the CS. Mind you, there'll be a few bits of world info that might affect your character, so don't jump the gun too much, haha.
@clanjos Alternate history aside, I suppose I could see how that'd be a little offensive. I can't say I share the disdain, though.
Platinum Days!

Superhumans. A blanket term used to describe those who possess powers greater than those of “normal” humans. This term extends to those among the various non-human races or even those who possess objects of great power. The existence of superhumans has been common knowledge since the 40’s, though legends of superhuman exploits had existed for thousands of years before then. While there are many among the superhuman populace that simply wish to live quietly, many others decide to use their powers to defend the innocent. On the flipside, of course, there are other superhumans that look to use their powers for their own personal gain, often to the detriment of others. As such, public opinion of superhumans is split. While there are many who look upon the superhuman community with adoration, often forming fanclubs for popular superheroes or other open superhumans, there are many who see the existence of superhumans as nothing but destructive, an opinion backed up by the property damage that superhuman battles can cause.

The setting of the story is Platinum City. Located on an artificial island in the Pacific, named Avalon, the city stands as a symbol of superhumans’ mark on the world. While most of the population is still made up of normal humans, Platinum City is seen by many as the premier place to break out as a superhero. Both the island and the city itself were built through a joint effort between a group of heroes led by the legendary “Earthshaper Terrafirma” and the backing of various interest groups. As such, the island is thought to be the “superhuman homeland” and, in many ways, the first defense against threats that come to the Earth itself.

Fwoo. Well, that’s the basic setting info (with more to come in the actual OOC section, of course). In case it wasn’t obvious, this is going to lead into a superhero RP of sorts, spinning out of a 1x1 I’ve been playing and feeding my fetish for shared universes. The idea was inspired by a whole helluva lot of things. Western superhero comics, tokusatsu, all sorts of anime/manga centered around superheroes (OPM, Tiger & Bunny, ConRevo, etc.), and even just zany, large cast work like Durarara or Gintama. While I plan for there to be arcs to tie everything together, ultimately this is more of a “Slice of Life Superhero Action-Comedy” deal than a super-serious dealio most of the time. Be prepared for when/if things do get dark, though. As far as skill level and all of that mess goes, I don’t ask for much, but I like to see at least mid-high casual. Try to squeeze out a few paragraphs at the least!

This completes my maiden voyage into Guild intchecks~! Just trying to get a rough idea who/how many I might have to work with. Also, feel free to ask questions!

Base Character Skeleton:

Yayoi, Ikaruga

With the squads having managed to take care of the hostiles defending the refinery, they were allowed a bit of a breather, or at the very least a huddle to determine the next course of action. Ikaruga let out a sigh of relief at the fact that, for the most part, everybody hadn’t gotten roughed up too bad. That is, except for Sutemasu-sensei, who looked to have been stabbed while her team was inside of the refinery. Though, oddly enough, she didn’t seem terribly concerned about her wound. At the very least, the mist had begun to clear a bit. Might’ve been more useful when everyone was in the heat of battle, but they would take what they could get, right? Despite not having encountered any major setbacks so far, Ikaruga had a feeling that they weren’t quite out of the woods yet. After all, Kirigakure was going through so much trouble stealing minerals from Kumogakure, so surely they planned to have a greater defense than this planned out?

Keeping this thought in the back of his mind, Ikaruga listened intently as Sutemasu proposed a plan, one that was less explodey than that prescribed in the original mission. While Ikaruga agreed with the sentiment behind it, he wasn’t sure how much the Raikage would approve. Ikaruga hadn’t met Kumogakure’s leader terribly often, but he’d gotten the impression that she was very…. intense to say the least. A trait that appeared to be passed on in some way to Hageshi. In any case, Minaru brought up the one wrinkle in the plan, which Ikaruga had also been thinking about. Why the hell would they hold a refinery off enemy shores without access to materials?

Before any further deliberation could be had, the relative silence of the area was pierced by the roar of explosions, followed by the voice of the man from which they came. As a bit of an anateur shinobi historian, the visage of the weapon the man held and the relation of the facility to Kirigakure let Ikaruga put two-and-two together rather quickly. The Mist’s Seven Swordsmen. Or, at least one of them as far as Ikaruga was able to tell. Of course, the spear-wielding Chunin would quickly be proven wrong by the appearance of yet another figure wielding a large blade with ease. The individual looked to be around the age of all the Chunin present and, by extension, the young Jounin Minaru. It didn’t take long for the Kubikiribocho’s wielder to zip into range to mount an assault on the group of Chunin. Just as Ikaruga prepared to dodge the blow, Kumo’s own master swordsman, Minaru Gazo, the Lionheart, intercepted the attack, driving him off for a pitched one-on-one duel. I’d heard he was powerful, but I didn’t realize he was that strong. Ikaruga thought, watching the broken piece of the cleaver blade sail through the air before landing in the water.

Of course, the teams wouldn’t be so lucky as to get a breather after that, as an old man emerged from the water between them. “Shit!” Ikaruga growled, stepping into the blow as the man swung the shark-skinned sword. Holding his spear vertically to block the strike, Ikaruga hoped to at least reduce the speed of the man’s swing enough for everyone else to dodge. However, due to a combination of not having too much time to think it through, along with an underestimation of the opponent’s strength, Ikaruga was sent flying, sent skipping along the water like a rock. The spearman quickly rolled to his feet and noticed pain shooting through his right arm, which now had some puncture wounds along it. Looking from his blood-soaked sleeve to the Samehada’s wielder, he saw that the blade’s skin had extended out into spikes, presumably at the moment it had come into contact with Ikaruga’s guard. “You guys probably don’t need me to tell you this, but avoid touching that thing at all costs!” Ikaruga called out to his fellow Chunin as he stumbled back up onto his feet. He was sure that he wasn’t going to get too much time to explain the intricacies of the peculiar blade, so that advice would have to suffice. “Just our luck for a first mission, huh?” Ikaruga muttered, taking a stance once again and waiting for an opening. Patience was a virtue here. These were members of Kirigakure’s elite, so one false move would get them killed. Ikaruga himself had only gotten lucky that the swing wasn’t too fast for him to react to.
A shark toying with its prey.
Yayoi Ikaruga

The trip to the island was mostly without incident, with most of the issues coming from whenever Toraburu would belt out his special brand of “encouragement”. The cat was still pretty cut up from Hageshi-sensei’s jutsu, but he seemed to be in good spirits. Knowing Toraburu’s type, Ikaruga hoped that the catboy’s high energy wasn’t just posturing. True to form, Ikaruga made a point to look out for any signs that his fellow chunin weren’t looking too under the weather. Other than Toraburu, none of their squad had been touched, so at least they were physically tip-top.

The mist made it hard to see, but luckily Hageshi was taking care of it as they advanced towards the factory. As they moved, Ikaruga carefully removed his spear from its casing and began to follow Hageshi from his left flank. The coast looked clear, or at least as clear as the mist hanging over the island would allow. Regardless, Ikaruga had taken a low stance, the spiral head of the Rasen no Yari pointed towards the ground. Following Hageshi’s lead, Ikaruga lept after the Jounin, almost getting hit by the paper-bomb rigged kunai that came flying out of the mist ahead of the squad. As soon as his feet touched the water, the young spearman pushed forward to engage the enemy shinobi that had approached. As soon as Ikaruga came within optimal spear range, swung it at the two kiri-nin that had come to meet him, knocking the two into each other. It appeared that they had underestimated Ikaruga’s strength, as both of the Kiri-nin were knocked off of their feet by the impact of the spear’s shaft.

The two kiri-nin were far from out of the fight, however, as they both managed to recover swiftly from Ikaruga’s opening blow. The taller of the two, who happened to be wielding a sword, signaled to his compatriot that he had the fight covered, allowing the other kiri-nin to engage one of Ikaruga’s fellow chunin. Before Ikaruga could intercept him, however, the sword-wielding kiri-nin was upon him, attacking Ikaruga with deftness of skill. No slouch with his own weapon, Ikaruga calmly parried the swordsman’s blows while counter-attacking to regain proper distance for a proper spear strike. Eventually, Ikaruga delivered a kick into his opponent’s chest to knock him back before thrusting the Rasen no Yari towards the kiri-nin’s heart. Just as the unsuspecting enemy raised his sword to intercept the blow, chakra erupted from the spiral spearhead and spun itself into a drill, bursting forward with immense force and coming out through the swordsman’s back.

The force of the spinning chakra burst sent the kiri-nin rolling backwards, though surprisingly he still drew breath. The injured shinobi clutched his chest in pain, the flesh around the entrance and exit wounds from the spearman’s attack having been twisted into a spiral itself. Despite having avoided a fatal blow to the heart, it seemed that the attack still managed to damage most of the organs surrounding his wound. Sensing Ikaruga’s approach, the kiri-nin attempted to pick up his sword for one last hurrah, only to see that the blade itself had been partially shattered and twisted into a spiral as well. “I had hoped to hit your heart so it wouldn’t hurt for too long, but you were better than I expected. In your next life, I’d suggest avoiding the Yayoi clan’s Spiral Driver.” Ikaruga remarked as he spun his spear around his hand.
“Fuck y---”
Thoom
The kiri-nin’s retort was cut short by a spear thrown through his skull. Sighing, Ikaruga pulled the spear from the corpse and rejoined his comrades once again.
Yayoi, Ikaruga

Ikaruga raised an eyebrow as he watched the cat-like chunin unleashed a stream of water at their squad’s Jounin. Sure, he’d heard that the boy was a troublemaker, but he figured it was more exaggeration than anything. Huh, he really is pretty intense. he thought, perking up when the ill-tempered boy turned his attention back on the rest of the team.

He certainly was a feisty one, that was for sure. So far, every sentence that came out of the boy’s mouth had included an insult, and it didn’t seem like it was going to stop anytime soon. “I mean…. To be fair, we’ve just assembled, so it’s not like we’ve had a chance to show our worth yet. By that same token, you’re just as useless, right?” the spearman retorted, attempting to parry Toraburu’s accusation of his team’s inadequacy. After all, wasn’t it a bit too early to be calling people out? They hadn’t even set off on whatever task they’d been assembled for yet!

At the sight of Toraburu’s cat-like ears twitching about, Ikaruga let out a slight chuckle. They also weren’t kidding about the whole “catboy” thing either. All this time, Ikaruga had figured that Toraburu wore a pair of clip-on ears like some other kid he’d seen around town. Now that he got the chance to see them in real life, they were actually kind of impressive. Impressively amusing, that is. The catboy did pose a good question, though. Ikaruga had actually forgotten the news about the teams being assigned until Hageshi came to the Yayoi estate, so even he was still in the dark. Ikaruga decided to let that last jab slide, already sort of used to Toraburu’s verbal abuse. “From what I can gather, this looks like a squad meetup. But from the fact that it isn’t just our group gathered here, I’m gonna assume it’s a lot more serious than it was when we were genin.” he remarked, taking in the rest of the groups’ make-ups.
Ikaruga wiped the sweat from his brow as he observed the six sheets of metal he’d placed next to each other. Each sheet had foot wide hole punched through it, surrounded by a wreath of twisted metal. The young spear master had spent the morning training as usual, primarily testing out his piercing power. Placing his hat back onto his head, Ikaruga began cleaning up all of the training equipment that littered the Yayoi estate’s training area. Once Ikaruga finished up, he returned his trademark spear to its casing and made his way through the compound, greeting the various members of his clan as they passed by. While he wasn’t considered a disappointment by any means, Ikaruga sometimes got the feeling that some of the older members of the clan still had some misgivings about his decision to become a shinobi. Most of the open criticism stopped once he’d completed the chunin exams, but that certainly didn’t stop some of them from whispering amongst themselves.

Many of the more “traditional” Yayoi possessed a certain level of prejudice towards shinobi for “skulking about in the shadows like rats”. Though, Ikaruga chalked that up to the clan’s typical position as defenders of the Daimyos and other such high-ranking political figures of the lands as putting them in opposition to opposing shinobi more often than not. Still, even the most disdainful of the Yayoi wasn’t exactly opposed to things which may offer a level of positive publicity for the clan. Namely, the potential for versatile employment.

“Ikkun!” a soft voice called, followed shortly afterwards by a little girl with white hair tied up into a bun on top of her head. “A scary looking man is out in front looking for you.” she explained, words interspersed with panting as she attempted to catch her breath after her mad dash to fetch him. Ikaruga simply nodded and pat the girl on the head, smiling down at her.
Thanks, Hiromi. I’ll go see what he wants.

It didn’t take long for Ikaruga to come out and greet the man, who he clocked as one of the village’s Jonin, only to be abruptly dragged off once the man that he declared he’d be Ikaruga’s teacher. The guy certainly had a strong grip. The jonin also had three others with him, who Ikaruga would come to find would be his squadmates. Ikaruga took the time to observe his fellow Chunin, taking a mental note of any distinctive features. The one that stood out most was the short boy with cat-like ears. Upon further thought, Ikaruga had heard a lot about some sort of “Catboy” throughout Kumogakure, for the boy had quite the reputation as a troublemaker of sorts. Second off was the skinny blonde guy with the goggles. A Naruto cosplayer? Ikaruga thought, scratching his cheek with an index finger. In his studies on shinobi history, Ikaruga had come across a few stories about the legendary figure of Naruto Uzumaki, so it didn’t seem to unusual that there would be fanboys trying to emulate the former Jinchuriki that held the Kyuubi. The goggles were an odd choice, but there probably capable of serving a practical function as well. And rounding out the pack was the one girl of the group. While she didn’t seem too remarkable in comparison to the other two, Ikaruga managed to notice the tiny scratches along her arms.

Eventually Ikaruga recognized the Jounin leading their group as Hageshi Nakamura. He’d seen the man around the village many times before, but never really got a close look at him. It was pretty apparent that the man had spent considerable effort building up his physique just from looking at his defined musculature. Fitting when one took into account the man’s reputation as one of Kumogakure’s foremost taijutsu users.

Ikaruga decided to break the silence of their trek by starting off with a greeting. “Yo, I’m Ikaruga. Yayoi, Ikaruga. Pleasure to be working with you guys.” he chimed, breaking out his signature smile and piece sign as he readjusted the strap of the Rasen no Yari’s case on his shoulder.

@Buddha Pretty sure I'm all finished up with the boi here, but I'll let you be the judge.
