The persona has merit. It gives Adam some elegantly simple motivations and puts him on the path to being active. Adam is quite insidious, what with the devouring the souls of the good and pure, but with potentially enough depth that he won't be exclusively an antagonist.
I personally have noted a contradiction in the persona, one which can be elaborated on to make Adam a richer character. You say that "Adam is benevolent, and he loves all", yet he is also Lawful Evil and wants to devour people's souls which is a very not-benevolent and unloving thing to do. Is Adam genuinely nice but he is driven by vile urges beyond his control? If so, how does he feel about those urges? Or is the benevolence only a facade for him to lure mortals in so he can eat them? If so, this should be elaborated.
Well, in order to elaborate for this clear contradiction, I think there is a need to justify how did I come up with the idea.
First of all, I made Adam when Anz is still his father. And because of his father physiology and the requirement to devour everything, I think that it would make sense for Adam, his son, to inherit some kind of this urge. Thus, it makes sense for Adam to have this urge of devour inside of him. And because I just don’t want to make a Anzillu 2.0 with better haircuts, I routed him toward the idea of devouring souls. To add more fluffs to the fire, he was planned to be able to strip apart the best characteristics from other. Here is an example. If Adam ate someone whose cardinal trait is truthful, he will be truthful. If he eat someone, who is virtuous, then he will be virtuous. And after that, I think it would be a great idea to goes against Aelius, seeing how Adam is much more better than Aelius in the department of goodness. That was my intention in regard to what am I going to do in my character’s development.
Now, come to the interpretation and intention.
First of all, my intention in creating this demigod was never to play a good guy. And as such, I never planned for Adam to be the “goody Christian” God. Instead, I planned to portray an evil, if not, almost transcended the meaning of “evil god.” He is all loving, but the context of “all loving” that I am trying is not the loving of a mother to her child nor the love of a couple to each other.
And I am sorry but I have to self- insert what I think is “love” mean into the making of Adam. Because everyone have their own interpretation of love, so I would like to make a run for mine.
“ Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.” (1 Corinthians 13: 4-6)
Unlike the Bible (I just going to roll with the ESV), I wanted to explore a love that is not so deeply rooted in most general anticipation about love. My interpretation of this love is sickly, perhaps a little bit ill toward it. For it detached yourself from reality, painted the world in the delusional shade of light and warmth. And do not be fool by term “benevolent” for it convey nothing but Adam’s infinite capability to love. And love doesn’t need to always to come in the love of friendship. Love come in ages, between couples who have intertwined their lives as they traveled together to Kartharsos. Love comes in love letters and hidden flowers in lockers and drawers. Love comes in the hidden kisses behind the trees and the mangroves. Love comes as gold, the hard earn cash after a day of hardworking. Love comes in flesh as the bodies writhes, their moaning echoes while the earth shaken to each thrust. Love come in blood as the killers smile, clearly dazed by the blood of their victims. Love comes as sex between the living and the dead, of the parent and their children, of the booze and its owner, of the servants and its masters, of the devour and the devoured. Love is sickly, but it is beautiful. Love is twisted, corrupted, and disgusted when being look in this way. But do remember, love isn’t right nor wrong. It is just what it is, a branch of desire that is worshipped by.
This. This is the love that I wanted to portray in Adam. An unreasonable love. A love that doesn’t care for the well-being of others. A love that is bound by no morale. No rules. No regard for each others. A love that its solely existence was to clarify the desire between two partners or more. This unreasonable love is what I hope for Adam to be able to convey. And I think that having Anz as his father really permitted this interpretation of love to alter the personality of Adam. Because to me, Anz is chaotic. He is cold, apathy, and having an unquenchable urge to devour reality. This is the closest thing in this Rp that symbolizes chaos. And being his son, isn’t Adam chaos enough? Wasn't this disregard of rules, morality, reasoning, and patterns are enough to clarify as chaos?
Now, I guess some of us already have some kind of experience with love. You want to be with that person. You wanted to go every they go. You don’t cherish their personal space. Every experiences. Every moment, up and down. Your future and your partner’s future are inseparable. And it is this obsession of owning everything the others have. Their flesh, their mind, their soul, their future. This desire to turn everything into yours, labelling into under your name is what I want to convey when Adam devour his disciples’ souls. Because at this point, he no longer see them as a bunch of pets that required his love. But he recognized them as his mate, something that come with the same value and weight as he is. And in this case, what is the greater love than one sacrifice his existence, his future, his thought, his individuality for the purpose of pleasing another? And this, I think, is just how Adam revealed how deep his love for partners. By devouring their existences and keeping them as close to him as possible.
But with Anzillu is no longer his parents, I think there is no need for this conundrum to continue. As of now, I am making another personality that is more fitting with whatever the new god gonna be. Probably a female that is still a love god who is aiming for that worship portfolio, but her personality is gonna be revolving around some aspects of pride. I don’t know. I’m just gonna ask Ekon to see what his personality really is.
For the abilities, I currently have 2:
- Praised be the Light: Adam (for now) envelops himself an aura of light. And all those that look into it grow fond of him, no matter what their initial opinions about him are.
- Sacred bonds: For those that recognized Adam as their god, a bond is formed between them and their gods. This allow them to somewhat manipulate the surrounding environment. The limitation of this is their lifespan. The more powerful their spells/invocation/curses, the larger the expenditure.
