As someone who once unironically used grey-on-black text .... don't. Its impossible to read on OLED screens, which include most modern phones.

Sometimes I feel like this site is a Thai buffet. I'm sure there's delicious things here, but for the life of my I can't find anything that really speaks to me right now.

When not prepping for my D&D table, I should spruce up some of my stuff here. Not all of my old content is the garbage I presumed it was. But some things I wrote we won't talk about ....

Reflections on characters past: "Adi really was a spoiled brat. How did I ever think her motivations were compelling?"

Peace is a lie. There is only passion.
Through passion, I gain strength.
Through strength, I gain power.
Through power, my chains are broken.

I have reason to follow this ... but I'm also in a position of debating the creation of a second group project (Cyberpunk 2077 hype is in full force). I wouldn't count me as in until I have a sheet submitted to an IC thread. Then you may by all means count me. :P
@Not Fishing So I waited a good while and read through it a few times before writing this feedback, but you already knew that would be the case. I couldn't quite shake the reservation about adding yet another 'heir denied' character to the pile (as I checked the Characters tab and we already have two). I grappled with the idea of letting it slide for a long while and it's honestly kind of a frustrating decision that feels bad having to make (but nobody said being GM was easy). As I said earlier I normally am not firm regarding backstories, however I cannot shake the concern that adding a third character of the same backstory archetype dilutes the value of the trope for all three of them. I think both your main character and your Legionnaire suffer from this same problem in fact.

The other problem I have giving it a thorough evaluation is that I get the feeling of genericism. If I had to guess, you hammered out the first idea you had in twenty minutes for the sake of getting it done. It doesn't feel like there was any passion put into it at all. That can suggest a number of things, though I cannot know which specifically applies in this instance. Perhaps you're just throwing your name in the hat for the sake of having a fantasy RP in your current portfolio - which I would take issue with given the limited slot nature of this RP - or you're not writing a character you're really passionate about creating and playing, which I would consider a disservice to yourself more than anything that won't lead to an enjoyable experience.

I would like to see another pass on the backstory work before I sign off on it. I also feel like a complete change in direction is not out of character, but I can't read your thought process beyond that which you post openly. I can only infer from what's written. All of that said, if you absolutely have your heart set on this version, come talk to me about it on the Discord or in PMs.

Gwynne’s hurried departure caught Adi’s attention only after she ran off. Kassandra felt it too. ‘Topesh senses something, I can sense as much myself.’
‘I sense that you think that’s a bad thing ...’
The idea of arguing in her head was growing less taboo to her. ‘Topesh is a powerful sorcerer and a great Legionnaire, but he put his own interests - his vain experimenting - above the Legion. For all my own failings, he wields far too much power to be so selfish. I can only hope his chosen is more focused than he is.’
‘She’s conflicted and lonely, and I have no idea if she really has the tenacity for what we are supposedly destined for.’
‘How can you be so doubtful of her when you are so unsure of yourself?’

She didn’t have an answer for that. The frigid night gnawed at her bones as the thought gnawed at her mind. She pretended she was a fierce warrior who would cut down an army to get what she wanted. She pretended to be a cold, ruthless badass without a soul and without hesitation. She pretended that her father’s crown and her father’s head were what she wanted above all else. Even Kassandra couldn’t see through the facade ... the illusion she constructed to fool herself.

‘Well what are you waiting for? We should follow them!’ Kassandra’s silent exclamation startling her out of her introspection.
Seemingly as an answer to the inquiry, another of the chosen emerged from the blackness. Adrianna bowed her head in acknowledgement and extended her greetings. “Welcome.” she addressed, “I must go now. We would not want Gwynne running into trouble by herself now. I suspect it would be best if she not be alone in this darkness. None of us should.”

Without a convenient glowing orb, navigating the ruins in near pitch blackness was a tall order at first. Her eyes adjusted to the night in the absence of the firelight, making the remainder of the journey possible. She envied Gwynne not just for the raw power of the orb, but for the small things like light that it was useful for. For some reason it seemed ... brighter. The church ruins and the surroundings weren’t as dark as the rest of the city. It also looked, felt even, warmer. Unlike the cold pale light of the stars this was more like what the fire threw off.

She felt the energy the moment she stepped into the church. A tingle from her fingertips to her spine, but warmer, more powerful. “This is aether ... isn’t it...” her comment no doubt startling Gwynne.
Adi had never practiced before. She like many believed the either to be gone after the centuries. The discovery had distracted her so, she hadn’t even noticed Topesh taking on a brilliant red. “Forgive me I- ... I had to see this for myself. It’s ...” she couldn’t put words to the sensation, but she knew this was familiar to Gwynne.
She just stood still, eyes shut and head lowered, breathing steadily and taking it all in. “It’s beautiful."
I originally passed this over but after seeing alternatives fall through, I might reevaluate. It quite literally has my name on it so perhaps I need to give a fair shake. (Stardust is the title which my comprehensive sci-fi universe is developed under)

EDIT: Drafting a sufficiently comprehensive sheet for this will be a process. Gimmie 24-48 hours on that.
I'm not sure I'm going to follow up on getting a CS in, even though I wanted to. Among reasons it wouldn't be fair of me to share, I'm just not quite feeling it in the same capacity as I was a week ago. My CS work keeps getting pushed back in favor of other things and I can't say when it will be done at this rate.
Now I can only genuinely speak for myself but I can say that the opinions of those I respect often mirror my own on this topic. Half the fun is writing the character concept out. I wrote one out for a role that I ultimately conceded, but in the end I think it was worth it because I enjoy crafting the character. There are thus hard limits to how much can be prefab with a specific character role before it turns me off. Full disclosure: that conceded role was also for co-GM and I have some pretty firm views on handing out the role of co-GM. I conceded it primarily because I felt like even if I got it, it wasn't properly earned.

I think the notion of encouraged diversity & better character compatibility is best accomplished through having roles/classes predefined if necessary without any character details, and by better GM enforcement. I feel like too many GMs approve absolutely anything even when they should turn down certain things because they clash with the desired party dynamic or duplicate an already-filled niche. With my own project I actually got put in this position where I had to think long and hard on approving a second strongman-type character or denying it to demand more diversity. I also had to deny more than one character because I felt like they would end up being a liability to the party and the RP in general. I know firsthand it sucks to have to write the "I can't/won't approve this" message but I think not enough people will stand strong with their vision for the RP they're recruiting for and instead cave to characters they ultimately shouldn't approve.
Lemme go open my archive of RB6 characters and decide which one I want to take out. The real question is whether or not I feel like having eyes everywhere or having surprise deathtraps everywhere.
@savannahssu I think .... you need to follow a few links in these like the one that leads to a main thread ... or the one in the main thread that leads to the active group ... or this one here.
I don't think @Inkarnate is ready for the number of jokes & witty comments I have already come up with based on his character's name. I've got Overwatch references and Expanse references, which is a hilarious and enjoyable combination.
