I. . .what? How can losing, no matter what character you use not affect your ranking? Did I miss something?
I don't understand your question. We aren't talking about the fight rather the ranking system which should be based off wins/losses for player.Fights are always judged with writing as a prime criteria.
Rilla. The Hall of Records and the tournaments associated with it ranked fighters by their win/loss record. It kept the top rank fighters continually fighting and led to epic fights between them.
Shiden that is what the original T1 did. Realistic, enhanced and powered. That was it. Then any additional rules were agreed upon. No character in a set was inherently more powerful than another because of the way T1 is structured.
Oh. Yeah. Well he uses cards for combat. For instance a demon themed deck. Each card has a different ability that has as many uses as charges. Each has a God or Goddess and a King or Queen.

Currently my main issue is to whether I have him play the cards like YGO or whether he holds and charges them before usage. Currently I have it towards the former, though the last bit may help more with defensive purposes. Another issue is his defenses as the cards are his weapons and physically he won't be much to talk about.

Remember the fight we had when I used Kolskagg? He used runes (the Viking rune stones) similar to the way you are thinking of using the cards.
I think Guild would best by coming up with its own tier system or at least expounding upon the one we have to make it better.

I'm actually working on making a new character that I tried before. He uses themed decks for combat with influences from Malazan. just have to figure outhow to properly work it.

This.
I never liked the tier system. Being a T1 fighter from way back, when the system of normal, enhanced and powered was tier enough for hundreds of fighters for more than a decade. It was when people stepped into a T1 fight and they were beaten, not by the powers but by the writer, that a shift came to make the fights more 'balanced' and 'fair'.

Of course this had the reverse effect and crappy fighters believed that their characters 'powers' should allow them to beat anyone, lessening the actual skill of writing a clear and clever fight. Even when a perceived lesser powered character beat a more 'powerful' character through skillful writing it often ended up in dispute because the powers somehow should be the determining factor in a fight.

Anyway just ranting. Let's see your ideas Rilla
I have tossed around ideas for characters. Reading many of the failed arena startups I notice they are all pretty much identical. There is nothing motivating other than the usual grand fight in some arena. We need to bring back the motivating factors to the arena. The role-playing aspect. The chance to grow a character. Develop allies and enemies that give reason to wage war.
Melon. I totally agree with you. Having a character with a purpose and allies and nemesis make a more rounded character.

I like that idea Rilla. Having a pantheon of characters, good, evil and neutral gives a greater chance of fueling a persistant arena.
Damn phone.

most of the threads can simply be remade. just takes time todo it.

I am a fan of how the Hall of Records work with it being based on the writers and not.ranked.by character. As well as the 10% system the use to distribute points after wins and losses. A winner gains 10 percent of the losers total and the loser loses that much. A harder way to do it would be like the Seguleh from Malazan, which stimulate that to advance in their ranks, you must beat someone superior and thus take their position. I am not sure what happens if you lose to a lower rank, whether everyone gets moved back or you just switch places.

Important had a good idea about the kick battles, good way to show proper ways to do things that are both logical and can. Carry a fight.

It would prove interesting if we also had a Dojo thread to help act out concepts in T1. For instance charging and interrupts, and to show in an example how they work.

I agree. There are so many things that were lost. Rebuilding requires everyone to pull together to get it going again. While never an overly active fighting community it did and does have some dedicated and skilled fighters.
