My OOC is complete. I will now go outside and enjoy the beautiful sun, until it gets too hot, then scuttle back inside where Horizon Zero Dawn awaits me. Finally, I get to play you!

Nestled on the corner of 51st and Mosley Avenue stood a carefree vendor tending to his milkshake stand. He sat in the middle of the cart, underneath a large parasol with a cow face caricature painted on top of it. The vendor drummed his hands to the beat of a hip hop instrumental booming from a small speaker. The milkshake shack, affectionately called "Cow Down" was set up to look like a minibar in the middle of the sidewalk. A counter top for customers horseshoed around him, while a small sink kept used glasses clean, and a table for all of his milkshake equipment were lined up at his disposal. Ice cream and dairy products were kept in a freezer underneath the table, away from potential vultures trying to nab a quick freebie. It was a very confined space to work with, but he's been doing this gig for so long it's damn near effortless at this point.

"Ayeeeeee!" A teen hollered from across the street. The tanned vendor instantly recognized the voice and turned around with a smile. "You still open, Loto?"

"Hell yeah!" Loto shouted back."Get over here, O-Z!" The teen smiled as he rushed over. Loto tightened the knot of his lime green bandana headband before exchanging their ritual fist-bump-hand-slap handshake. "Oreo?" Loto simply asked, even though he already knew the answer.

"Oh you know I gotta have the Oreo, bro-bro!" O-Z's laugh was infectious. "I need to cool down, especially after the heat my lady put on me!" The kid was a riot. O-Z was the kind of guy that started the party as soon as he got there, wild'n out as much as possible without getting the shit kicked out of him, or thrown out. That's pretty much everyone's mantra in the slums; teetering on that edge without actually falling, or getting pushed off - at least until your luck ran out. With the finesse of a bartender, Loto whipped up O-Z's Oreo shake and put it in a plastic cup. O-Z flashed his gold grill with delight as he grabbed the drink and practically inhaled it.

"Shit, man breathe." Loto chuckled.

O-Z let out a satisfied 'ahh' sound. "Bruh, I don't know if you sprinkle crack on it or not, but that right there is primo!"

"It's also not free." Loto made a gesture with his hands that told O-Z to cough up the bill.

The teen frowned. "Man, you think I'd play you like that?" A wad of cash appeared from the pocket of his hoodie and he started counting through the hundreds, twenties, and tens. "You family, Loto."

Loto glanced at O-Z's wealth barely held together by a couple of flimsy rubber bands. "Payday?" He simply asked, knowing better. O-Z wasn't exactly a 9-to-5 kind of guy. That kind of money came from a different kind of hustle, a very dangerous one, especially nowadays.

O-Z nodded. He placed a twenty dollar bill on the counter. "That's all you, bruh."

"If you say so, big time." Loto said, scooping up the bill. "What you got going on tonight?"

"There's a party down in Crenshaw Market, across the street at the abandoned complex on 23rd. Ill Mindz crew is performing. Supposed to be a lot of honeys comin through, man. You should go."

Loto stashed the twenty dollar bill in his jean pocket and as he did, he felt the enveloped invitation that was also there. "I gotta be somewhere tonight."

"Oh, what?" O-Z perked up, leaning in. "You got a date? Bring her!"

"Nah."

"Nah? Nah, what?"

"Your mom doesn't want to go out tonight. She wanted to stay in and listen to Barry Manilow or whatever the hell.." Loto smiled, to which O-Z cursed back playfully, yelling: "Gimme back my twenty, ya bish!"

Just then, a lanky Asian guy on a bike rode up to the Cow Down. "Whattup, Shin!" O-Z nodded over to him. Loto took off his apron and grabbed his hoverboard.

"Hey, Shin. Thanks for covering for me."

"No problem, Loto. Sorry I couldn't get here sooner." Shin got off his bike and set it aside the Cow Down cart.

O-Z's eyes lit up and pointed at him. "Ya girl got you all messed up too!?"

Shin's face gave a look of surprise. "What the hell, how'd you know?!"

"Ha! Cause same shit happened to me! We're all out here strugglin!!!" O-Z's laugh was loud. Loto gave his goodbye handshakes to Shin and O-Z.

"You two love birds take it easy, ok?" Loto nodded to them both.

"Yeah, well...when you're done doin whatever the hell you're doing, head to Crenshaw!" O-Z was persistent, but Loto wasn't taking the bait.

"I'll try, man." Loto glanced at his watch. Oh, shit...I'm late. He powered on his board and let it hover on the sidewalk before he jumped on it. The thrusters sputtered, and as quickly as he gained his balance, he was off to his destination.
Without hyping it up, I recommend it if you like character driven, dark and gritty crime dramas.
@thedragonsimon I really need to reread that again, it's been so long. I enjoyed what Hickman did in the recent Secret Wars. Also, I like Jake's pic. True Detective Season 1 is probably my favorite show next to season 1 & 2 of House of Cards.
@Burning Kitty We'll say it's 2016 and it follows more closely to 616 without the current civil war event and secret wars.

I should have my oc up sometime tonight.
@thedragonsimon Good question. I'll have to mention in the plot that Doctor Strange's battle with the entity disrupted the flow of magic, limiting top tier sorcerers from using powerful spells to accommodate that aspect. Thanks for bringing it up.

Real Name: Lu Shen

Alias: Smiling Cobra

Age: 27

Species: Human type

Appearance: 5'11", 160 lbs. Smiling Cobra is in prime, athletic shape. He prefers a well-tailored suit when he's not wearing the ornate robes of Peng Lai.

Personality: Confident, yet keenly aware of his identity. He has a laid back sense of humor with a spirited zest that never seems to wane, even in the most dire circumstances.

Bio: Lu Shen was born on Peng Lai Island, one of the Seven Kingdoms of Heaven. He was adopted into a line of dedicated warriors called The Cobras, who protected Xiang Yao, a giant snake-dragon. Xiang Yao is a mystical entity who lies in wait for a challenger willing to fight it and claim the mantle as Peng Lai's Immortal Weapon. The current Immortal Weapon, Fat Cobra, trained him at a very young age in various martial arts. While Lu Shen excelled in his teachings, Fat Cobra sensed his aura was unique. He took Lu Shen to the Oracles with Many Eyes. They peered into his soul and found that there was an affinity for the mystic arts embedded within his chi.

They appointed Sage Cobra as his mentor, a master of the Ecocentric and Egocentric principles. Sage Cobra taught him everything he knew, and when Lu Shen had surpassed his training, he earned the title of Smiling Cobra. Brimming with confidence, Lu Shen challenged Xiang Yao with the hope of becoming the new immortal weapon of Peng Lai Island. He was severely beaten.

"You will never be ready so long as you remain here," were the snake-dragon's words as Smiling Cobra laid broken on the ground. Taking Xiang Yao's comment to heart, Lu Shen recovered from his wounds and traveled to Kamar-Taj at the recommendation of his master. To this day he is still there, honing and perfecting his craft in the Mystic Arts. Lu Shen also helps with the training regiment of young mages at Kamar-Taj as a martial arts instructor.

Primary: Ecocentric
Primary Spells:

-Art of The Weathered Fist- By imbuing his chi with the environment, Lu Shen can incorporate the harnessed energies of the elements with martial combat.

-Steps of The Wind Walker- He can take flight or dash at incredible speeds by manipulating the wind around him.

-Temple of Stormguard- With deep concentration, Lu Shen can fuse with any of the four elements by matching his chi to their properties. This allows him to shift through most terrain like a ghost, but he must be careful. For instance, if he loses concentration while walking through a mountain, he might accidentally revert to his physical form and get crushed to death.

Doctor Strange and The Mystic Avengers

The Story

Doctor Strange's tenure as the Sorcerer Supreme is nearing its final chapter, an unexpected circumstance that nobody saw coming. He battled against a cosmic entity that lasted for a thousand years, across many different realities and dimensions, until he narrowly achieved victory. The duel has taken a toll on his mind and body, aging him significantly, even though he had only left earth's realm for an hour's time.

After exhausting all resources to find a cure for his condition, he decided it was best to spend the rest of his time on earth to look for worthy successors. Kamar-Taj opened its gates to the world's mystics; an invitation for capable mages and supernatural beings of the arcane arts to help safeguard mystical realms and potentially bare the title of Sorcerer Supreme.

Time is of the essence. Every moment spent recruiting his team of mystics invites unwanted devilry to slip through the ethereal cracks ...

About this RP: You will be playing either as a canon mystic or an original character. Your past is of no consequence - be it a hero, or a villain who has even battled with Dr. Strange in the past. The bigger picture is what matters now. We'll be embarking on other worldly adventures to sheriff where the sorcerer supreme left off and maintain a semblance of balance within the multiverse. Powerful beings await our presence. In fact, they've been anticipating Doctor Strange's demise for quite some time, and will slowly begin to reveal themselves as bosses we'll have to team up against. Uncover new artifacts, tomes, scrolls, and relics to advance your magical abilities or add to your equipment. Let the Avengers deal with the small time stuff. The Mystic Avengers will handle the rest.

The Lore

The Magic

Credit to Ian Mcnee for Magic concept

Universal energies have been harnessed by masters of the mystic arts of our realm, pioneered by daring sorcerers who've traveled dimensions beyond our own. Such complex knowledge is divided into four categories:

Egocentric: Refers to magic derived from tapping into one's own spiritual energies. This particular form of magic may appear to the untrained eye to be psychic in nature, but indeed spiritual energies are tapped rather than psychic or mental energies. Egocentric skills include astral projection, hypnosis, mental domination and telepathy.

Ecocentric: This method for manipulating mystic energy, originally known as the Emerald Road, refers to the ambient mystic energies of an environment. After learning to control his/her personal energy through the study of Egocentric magic, a sorcerer may next learn how to connect his own life force to the ambient mystic energies of the surrounding environment. Once entwined, the energy may be manipulated to create a variety of effects As with individuals, some places have greater "mystic potential" than others. On Earth, magic energy flows through chartable courses called "ley lines" or lung-mei (dragon paths). Churches and temples are oftentimes built along these lines with sacred sites like Stonehenge and Glastonbury Tor occurring at points where two or more ley lines meet. Other dimensions such as the Dark Dimension or the various mystic realms have much greater mystic potential than those of the Earth Dimension, but their alien energy is far more difficult to control. (Elemental Magic)

Necromancy: This path or "forbidden path" (as it was originally known) was developed on Earth by the Elder God Chthon and is recorded in THE DARKHOLD. Witnessing his brother Set gaining power by destroying life,
Chthon became curious. He studied the release of death energies in order to master this source of power for himself and to better defend himself against the insatiable hunger of Set. Forbidden in every civilized mystic community, this potent form of magic is still practiced by twisted witches and wizards who seek power no matter the cost. Drawing on the potent energies generated by the termination of lesser energies (i.e. human sacrifice) and capable of generating swift and significant results, necromantic incantations have resulted in the destruction of entire civilizations.

Exocentric: (from the Greek: exo, "outside") This very advanced form of magic, originally known as the Golden Way, refers to the form of magic that draws upon forces from dimensions outside our own. Only very experienced sorcerers are able to communicate with powerful mystical beings that inhabit these "other dimensions" and appeal to them for assistance. To invoke the aid of godlike beings a sorcerer must learn complex incantations and master subtle gestures in order to increase the chances of receiving a positive response. The more powerful the entity (or the less powerful the sorcerer) the more complicated the ritual of invocation becomes.

The Entity

Commonly invoked mystic principalities that mystics from all realms draw power from. One must be aware of who they choose, for magic always has a cost...

@thedragonsimon I dig the concept. I should have an OOC up sometime soon. Hopefully this gets some more interest.
