Not my own words, but: "Enjoy memes and have a good time online, but develop a solid sense of self-worth that is rooted in a reality that doesn't disappear when the battery charge is empty."

So I see that players are allowed to make their own house, or ruling family for their nation of choice. But As far as the nations' histories/backgrounds, traditions, religions, aesthetics, culture and such goes, is any of that for us to decide also?
@Aristo@Mardox

For the story of the Nations, should I post the short versions or the long ones? The short ones I can get done in an hour so, however, if I'm to post the long versions, it will take until tomorrow to post, so which version do you wish?

I'll take a short summary, if it'll help plan for the IC earlier. Since I think this is a reboot, I could also check out the other thread(s), if it might help?
Well, the nation info, strengths and weaknesses will be added in the OOC. I planned to originally add them in the interest thread, but not only would the post have been to long, I feared that if it wouldn't get enough interest it would have been a wasted effort.

I'd think the lack of information would generate less interest than the other way around. Without it, the nations are just numbers on paper.
As it stands, I know nothing about them, or how they're different. Makes it hard to pick one, wouldn't you say?
So how much of your nation backgrounds are prebuilt, and how much is open to player interpretation? There's not very much incentive to pick any one over another but the numbers and it would strike me as pretty uninspiring if everything was predetermined for us.
I apologize for the delay, everyone. I've posted a response to Serah, and a closure to the chase. I'm realizing that our adventure hasn't been as open-ended as I'd expected it to be; I don't want to put you on rails the whole time, and so we'll be shifting pace shortly.

On the other hand, I hope that the wait hasn't been too off-putting, and I'm sorry again. If there's still interest, I'm happy to continue and kick myself into gear.
You follow the creature through the trees, who seems to have an uncanny sense of direction. As far as you can tell, everything looks the same in this section of the forest. After a while, the noise behind you fades, and the feline slows his pace to a quick walk. The many-eyed face betrays hints of relief and exhaustion.

"You have no idea what you've gotten into," it rasps to Serah. "The hunter can become the hunted in the blink of an eye." It paces the ground, looking over its shoulder more than once, then leads you to a rocky enclosure, presumably its den. It is dark, but the thing's eyes glow as it enters the murk.

"They are unnatural," it says, voice rebounding down the stone walls. "Not mere men or bests, but spectres. They come without warning and leave suffering in their wake. I do not know what they are," the beast cocks its head thoughtfully, "but maybe she does..."

It looks to Serah again, resigned. "The food, if you please. I do not demand this time, but beg."

These were men once.

Aeron's face soured as he brought his horse to a stop. Before him was a tangle of desecrated bodies, transfixed on wicked pikes interspersed among a field of bones and battlefield debris. The sight was made worse by the unintelligible wails that the undying made, and the convulsions of their ruined bodies. The Optheranian had stared death in the face before, and now, death literally stared back.

A crash caught Aeron's attention, and he saw one of the pikes fall. The wailing creature it was embedded in went down with it, crashing to the mud with the grace of a bird hitting a window. More joined it on the ground as the druids worked their magic with impunity. Felling the pikes was the most practical way through, although watching the undying topple to the earth made Aeron's teeth clench. There was no redemption for these men at the end of the tunnel, only a faceful of mud.

Finally, Aeron could bear it no longer and dismounted with a crunch as boots ground into old bones. He sensed several of his brother-knights join him - Nethelin’s faithful knew what they had to do. The black-robed knights approached the tangle of pikes with their arms outstretched, each holding aloft a sacred icon of their god. They pushed through the cluster of druids, putting themselves between them and the undying.

Aeron began the litany. The language used by Nethelinic priests and crusaders was an ancient dialect, unfamiliar to most. Some words could be inferred from their similarity to modern Optheranian counterparts, but without context, Aeron’s chanting was little more than babble to the rest of those assembled.

The rest of the knights joined in, their voices a sonorous drone, unperturbed by the shrieks of the undead. A faint light emanated from their icons now, and in moments, it enveloped the writhing bodies as well. The Nethelinics broke their line, each striding down a different path through the rows of pikes, carrying on their hymn of deliverance. One by one, each knight brandished their icon at an undying, undaunted by their gnashing limbs or snapping jaws. One by one, the once-human bodies burst into light, then vanished. The fresh undying lingered longer than the older, feebler bodies, but the remains of each danced away in the wind as ash.

Many long minutes passed before the knights brought their grim work to a close, Aeron leading them back to the column. He lingered when he approached the druids, tossing the woman in the mask a look that betrayed a mixture of admonition and mourning.

“You may proceed now,” was all he said before remounting his destrier.
(Ignore this, I goofed)
In that case, I just might cobble up a cleric of Helm or Ilmater - battlefield healer extraordinaire!
@VorWere you planning on roleplaying your cleric as more of a caster, melee combatant, or just playing it by ear?

I thought about dropping my previous idea and playing a divine class. I don't want to step on toes; if a second cleric (of a different deity) would be redundant, perhaps I'll roll a straight-up paladin.
