I think the only way being a mixed race baby would work is if you were an Asari.

Though that does beg the question of what a Batarian-Krogan hybrid would look like.

You could presumably get around the hassle of making unique opening quests for each race by having some universal setup, like some sort of multiracial organization made specifically for the reaper war, Rachni War, or whatever event they decided to put your squad in the middle of. I mean, I'm sure there were a few Krogan decenters during the rebellions, no? Though that would kind of kill the "choose your own race" vibe without some serious headcanon roleplaying on the part of the players, but I assume almost every Mass Effect player does that anyway.
