Cyberpunk often expresses a sense of rebellion, suggesting it as a type of cultural revolution in science fiction.

Welcome to Europa, the neon city of the future, host to our neo-noir adventure; blurring the lines between good and evil, right and wrong. Ideas that are what you make it in a world where ideas are dangerous with revenge, paranoia and alienation recurring, dominant images.
The end of Industrialization and shift in product demographic have lead to a clear divide between rich and poor, like never before seen in history, visible in almost all aspects of modern living, unavoidable. Advances in the fields of medical science and technology over the last two centuries have increased lifespans and seen a reduction in mortality rates. World population has more than doubled and rising, little land mass is left unpaved, adding to the vast mega-metropolis' that make up the core of 'countries' governed by private mega-corporations having left behind traditional politics a shift that gradually made itself prominent with the world going in a more service-based direction.
Almost but entirely wiping out sense of national identity outside of a few small pockets. The breakdown and reformation of social order as known in the 21st century juxtaposed with the advanced technological and scientific achievements that have propelled mankind into a new high tech age. The neo-futurism movements of old from literature, film and art inspired much of the world we see today's high value on art and architecture, a departure from post-modernism adhering to the idealistic belief of a better future through a need to periodize modern rapport with technological advancement taking precedent.

VIGILANCE keeps us all SAFE.

While we are waiting on a couple of people invited to finish characters, there is no need for any more character applications at this time. The game may or may not begin recruiting again at some point, although for the moment this is only foreseeable with drop-outs needing replacement.

To those who didn't get a chance to post a character, thanks for the interest and keep your eye on the thread. Alternatively, DM myself or Briza with your interest and you'll be added to a shortlist.

Looking for active players.

Overview

”Like city lights, receding”

A role-play based in a post-industrial dystopian version of Earth, “Terra”, relying heavily on cyberpunk elements particularly around social order with hints of cybernetics, robotics, cyber organisms. The role-play looks to avoid the typical online setting of the genre focusing more on the human aspect of it who live in a high tech-low life world of computers, technology and corruption. Mega-corporations have become governments and control almost all aspects of life holding political, social, military and economic power. Our characters will take on the roles of mercenaries, from cold, calculated hit-men for hire to lawful bounty hunters and everything in between. Hired by, private or progressing their own agenda, ranked by a notoriety system also effectively working as a karma system.

Fluff

”Big Brother is watching you.”

2302. Terra (Formerly known as Earth). Population – 11 Billion. Society has moved on from production of goods and onto the production of services, ending the era of industrialization. More so than ever before in human history knowledge is power in a world ran by ideas. Cybernetics while still in an early stage are beginning to be implemented more and more but have not yet made themselves commonplace most often related to military personnel or gang members who have gotten hold of the technology over the black market. Vast mega-cities reign over the majority of the Earth leaving little natural space on land mass other than a few pockets and artificial habitats, most commonly parks in districts and those with a more scientific or practical function like timber farms (Trees grown en masse for the purpose of producing timber). Mega-corporations control society much like a government an example of one of the more prominent being Eurocorp. Other notable mentions include JPN-22 and Nova INC among many more. Surprisingly mobile phones, and computers have not become a thing of the past although have advanced technologically to becoming an absolute necessary part of life and has revolutionized how consumers act with the digital world. Humans have been divided into two categories by man-made evolution that far overshadows and outweighs simply male and female but not Human and Cyborg. The latter being those who make use of permanent augmented cybernetics such as artificial body parts often designed to carry out specific functions. Cyborg is a broad generalization as there are varying degrees from minor augmentation to those who are arguably more machine than human. The societal shift has lead to a difference in views on cybernetics many seeing as unnatural who stand opposed on differing scales of radicalism while the same scale also applies to the other side. Most mercenaries are hired by private corporations for espionage and assassination as well as security detail work among other career opportunities. Outside of this there are a number of mercenaries who work privately with hit-men and bounty hunters having become well paid jobs where the work was constant and the rewards easy to reap. It has also been known for mercenaries to join social activists as well as movements both social or political using their talents to further said ideology or mission.

Characters

Please post characters here pre=approval. Character tab is for APPROVED CHARACTERS only.

Jobs
For the majority you’re free to make your own jobs as you go along. Occasionally a job will appear that is designed to get anywhere from a couple players to everyone in on trying to nab the reward. These will appear on the Jobs board section of the IC.

Loadouts
Be reasonable with the gear, weapons and cybernetics you kit your character out with. Remember this is a story-based RP that will develop over time. It’s not a race to get the biggest boom-stick or niftiest MOD or prototype cybernetics. Patience.

Nationality
There’s no real tie to any old world patriotism other than in small groups of radicals. If you’re going to give your character a reason to identify as something other than from Europa then please make it a good or interesting reason.

The Hallows Inn

You find yourself sprinting, as fast as you can, pushing every muscle in your body to the limit. The dirt track in front of you, so bogged down by rain water has become nothing more than a sludge path of sodden muck. With every step you feel as if your boots are about to be pulled from your feet. Thin, black gnarled branches of long dead trees pinch and tear at your clothes and skin, but you ignore the pain other than a wince after each painful lash. The rain is pouring and your soaked clothing weighs you down, you feel as if at any minute, your fatigue will overcome you and you will succumb to being yet another victim of the Drakenwald, in common tongue, the Dragon's Wood. For the longest time now, your only light source has been that of the moon where it manages to penetrate through the crowded tree-tops, whose dead branches are like crippled arms clawing at the sky, begging for freedom.

Suddenly, thunder rumbles and now consistent flashes of lightning offer you glimpses of what lies ahead, allowing you to maneuver around thorns and branches as sharp as a good sword. However, with each flash of lightning paranoia grows on you, fingering at the deepest parts of your brain. What was at first a hunch that you were being watched is now visuals, whether or not they are hallucinations, deep red eyes watching you through the trees, waiting for you to fall, or make a mistake before the pounce. Thunk you hit the ground hard as you trip over something, struggling to turn onto your back you see it was a rope, tied between the bases of two trees. Your hunch proved to be right, someone or something is hunting and you are their prey. About to give in, you lie back and feel the muck molding to your shape, opening your eyes you see something that almost beings your heart to a stop. Hung from a thick branch, is a skeleton, a long dead victim of whatever it is that resides in this place. Strangely enough this gives you the power to keep going. Bringing yourself to your feet you turn on your heels and once again begin to make haste. You don't know where you are going but anywhere is better than this place. Seconds turn into minutes, which in turn feel like hours as you find you are hopelessly lost. But, something catches your eye, a light coming from between two trees, this is not like any light you have seen in a long time, this is natural daylight. You make one final dart for the light, you can feel your hunter is right behind you. You run and you run and you run.

Thunk. Once again you hit the ground, but this time the fall is not as bad, you open your eyes to see that you came crashing through a final line of trees and landed in a clearing of lush, green grass. Strangely enough, as you look up at the sky, you can see the sun hovering directly overhead, a small ball in the sky. You squint as it hurts your eyes, but you cannot look away knowing that only moments ago you'd seen the moon, it was as if, you'd stumbled into a different time. Bringing yourself around, you see that there is a building ahead of you, it appears to be some sort of resting place, an inn. Beside it lies the forge of a blacksmith. Coming to your feet, you walk towards the building and upon reaching the door, push it open and stumble inside, dragging in muck and dripping water all over the oak floor. Eyes from all over the large open room fall you, you catch a pretty maiden standing on the stairs. Time seems to freeze for a moment, only to be started again by a voice.

"Another wanderer? This is the third this week, at this rate, we're soon going to run out of rooms... Welcome to the Hallows Inn! Lazarus, at your service."

The Hallows Inn is situated in the middle of a clearing in a forest known as the Drakenwald. The Drakenwald has never been fully mapped but is known to be the largest woods in the chartered World. The exact location of the clearing in relation to the forest is also unknown as all who have come across The Hallows Inn have done so by accident, often after days, if not weeks of being lost in the vast expanse of the Drakenwald.

The owner of the inn is a man who goes by the name Lazarus. Nobody knows his exact age, only that he has been at the inn for centuries, some rumors say that he was born in the Drakenwald and has never been outside its borders, others say that Lazarus is an entity of the forest that cannot leave, a Dryad of sorts. What is definitely known is that all weary wanderers who come across the Hallows Inn are offered refuge until they decide it is time to move on, if at all.

Here's a CS if you want to start working on a character for the role-play.
On the matter of creating your character, just a few points:

  • Remember our characters are not hardened warriors (at least not this soon into the role-play);
  • Armor and weapons shouldn't be too over-powered or overdone. For example, if you fancy your character a bit of a knight, don't go having a full set of plate mail with all the knots and works;
  • The role-play is following a traditional-fantasy style, at least for the time being, so it would be appreciated if we kept our characters in this genre in relation to race, class etc.;

Name:
Age:
Race:
Gender:
Sexuality:
Class:

Appearance: (Pictures are preferred)
Weapon(s):
Armor:

Personal Trinkets: (If any)
Short History:
Other:

If this gathers any real interest I'll have a ooc up soon and we can start playing quickly. Haven't seen an inn role-play in a while so, have at it.

@DeadDrop It never got started, I was planning to run it again soon so I can keep you updated, if you like.
In CLOSED. 9 yrs ago Forum: Casual Roleplay
WIP. I'll finish this later today.

@TheTwistedOne It turns out that probably won't be recognizable, except for name and domain. Lol, reworking the character more towards the original thought.

Edit: Make Deanann's domain on the list Deception/Chaos, replace chaos with Trickster if you don't want two of the same. The idea of the rewrite is he's fundamentally ambiguous, clever and mischievous, invested in his own interests so he remains neutral to the plot clash.
@TheTwistedOne This isn't anywhere near finished, I'm going to change the layout stuff and finish the history etc later. Just wanted to lay claim to a domain lol.
