"Yeah," Johnny said. He paused for a moment to think about how he should answer the question. This girl just accepted him and a few strangers into her home, but he felt being honest would put her off a bit. He knew he was a fuck up in life, but she didn't need to know that. She needed someone who would have her back, and he would. "Uh, I was unemployed. Nothing special. So, you run this whole place by yourself? I mean, besides the help from James. Doesn't it get lonely?"

He had gandalf moving right beside her, calm and steady now. He pet the animal as he trotted along, enjoying the rising sun as it showered its light through the fields.

--------------

Ethan was following James to the entrance, also riding along side the kid.

"So what grade are you...were you in?" he wondered. "I teach high school students down at Mellington High. My wife does too. I hope you get to meet her, she would like you. She always liked hardworking kids."

"There, there Gandalf," Johnny said to the animal as he pet it along its side. "I'm on your side, wise one."

Johnny saddled up the horse and leapt onto it, only to immediately fall off the other side and eat dirt.

"Ah, what the hell Gandalf! What's with your horse Reena!?"

Ethan smirked as he looked to Reena. "Sounded like a good plan on paper..."

Johnny gave it another go, this time with success. He trotted Gandalf around the group as he attempted to get a feel for it.

"Okay, so we go raid this guys place," Johnny started, while simultaneously trying to regain control of the horse. "What if he's there and tries to kill us? Do we just...kill him?"

Ethan got on one of the other horses with relative ease and waited for the others.

"We should at least try and see what happened at the entrance blockade," Ethan suggested. "If I'm to find my wife, that would be a good starting point. We could also see what we're up against, if anything."

"What's that!?" Raven suddenly blurted out coming down from the porch. She pointed to the sky, which revealed a long trail of smoke just beyond the trees.

"Looks like trouble," Johnny said.

"Someone could need our help," Ethan added. "It's a large fire. Maybe a sign? It looks like it's on the way."

"I'm thinking...trouble," Johnny said again. "Fuck it, whoevers coming, lets get this over with while we have daylight."

It took him a brief moment, but he finally got the horse moving in the right direction.
Dallen laughed a bit as he rested his eyes. "Don't worry kid, once we get out of here, you're on your own," the man said. He wasn't one for groups anyway, and the thought of babysitting a couple of twins nerved him. His plan was just to get out of the city, wherever that led him next he didn't know.

When he opened his eyes next, he realized he actually had slept from pure exhaustion. Whether it was hours or only a few minutes, he felt fresh enough to continue on. He got up in the dark and stretched a bit, then opened the door. "Come on."

The sounds from above had seemed to stop, as they continuously walked for hours on end. At the next subway entrance he decided to try his luck by going up. Maybe it was better now, though he really had no idea where exactly they were. He led the way up the stairs cautiously, only to be blinded by the beaming light of the sun. He waited a moment to let his eyes adjust, then went up.

They were just outside of the city, at one of the last stops before it turned into the countryside. The view of it all was a lot to take in, as a few buildings were toppled over one another. Fires and smoke filled the skyline, but all seemed relatively quiet. Where they currently were, there were numerous abandoned vehicles with no signs of the owners. All piled up and empty. Dallen checked a few until he found the keys still inside a jeep. He fired it up and began pushing a few cars out of the way to make a clearing.

Suddenly a sound could be heard from above, and he looked up to see it was a military helicopter with a trail of black smoke following behind it. It swerved out of control and soon went down somewhere beyond the treeline. This told him the military was still somewhere in the area, and if wanted to loot the chopper he had to get there first.

"Follow the I-15 until you get to the 215," Dallen told them. "That'll take you to the rural areas leading out of the city. Same area that helicopter just went down. Goodluck."

He slammed his foot on the gas and headed for the helicopter.

"I'm Ethan," the former history teacher told the new face he saw. "That girl sleeping is Raven, and that's Johnny." He sat down next to her and immediately felt his body lump into the soft cushions. "Don't worry, we're good people. Just trying to make it out of this thing alive."

Johnny got a sense of relief from what Reena had shown him. He knew she was stocked, but it was far better to see it as such. Before he could say anything else, he heard a line of gunfire that didn't seem to stop. It was coming in the direction of the entrance, where all the cars were backed up. It kept on, though it was far enough away for now.

"Some bad people might get in," Johnny told her. "Some desperate people. We might have to fight for this place to stand, sooner rather than later. I'll take up watch, you and the others should get some rest if you can. We're gonna need all our energy tomorrow, I feel."

With that, Johnny went up and posted himself on the second floor of the barn. He could see just over the trees in all directions, so he nestled next to a slab of hay and waited. Nothing ever came as the rise of the morning sun showered over the grass. The gunfire had eventually stopped in the night, and all was back to silence again, save for the crickets. Johnny found himself taking five minute breaks with resting his eyes, all night, and somehow, he still felt fresh in the morning.

The musician hopped down and went back into the farm house, wondering how everyone else had fared the night. Everyone seemed to be up, or just waking up. Ethan walked over to him. "I need to go try to find my wife," he said.

"I don't think that's the best idea right now," Johnny told him. "There was a gun fight out there all night. We could be walking into a warzone. We should eat, gather our weapons, then come up with a plan. We need some of us to stay here and protect this place, who knows what's out there."
Sorry guys really busy lately, and currently really drunk. Ill try to get a post up either tonight or tomorrow morn. If tonight, it'll be a drunk ass post. If tomorrow, itll be better. Lol. Just a heads up.
"Fair is fair," Dalious said to the prince. He was honored to be allowed to fight for him, as he saw this opportunity as one to wash away many of his past sins. A second chance in his mind, not one many in his shoes could ever hope to achieve. The prince was right in being cautious of him though, as his main intent relied on making out for himself. A clean slate and a lot of coin. Those are what motivated the pirate, as it has always been so, except now he could do it in the legal sense.

He gave a nod and a wink to Lora, who accepted the challenge after him. Her beauty and kind awkwardness made the pirate raise an eyebrow at first, as he was not accustomed to females fighting in any battles. It was bad luck to bring a woman along where he came from, but at the same time he accepted the prince's word, though he could sense a bit of unsureness in his tone. They were a group together before he came along, so he said nothing and accepted it for what it was. In the back of his mind though, he predicted he may have to help the lass out in one form or another. Or perhaps she would get him killed, such is the way of woman.

As the eight spots quickly filled up, Dalious found himself sighing and rubbing his temple from the amount of females and would be warriors fighting by his side. They seemed a weaker choice then the sentinels that surrounded them, save for the one called Vesta, who he could tell had been through some fights based on her confidence alone. He was only assured in his own fighting skills, however, he was but one man. He just had to trust in the prince, though he was a young prince and whether experienced or not remained to be seen. It mattered not, dying in a battle with a greater cause felt like a good way to go out anyway. If only it were at sea. The pirate gave a slight laugh to himself, thinking about how all of his dead friends must be turning in their graves right now.

When the words were said and done, he made his way over to the lady known as Diane. Making sure to nod to the companions as he passed them all by and unintentionally completely ignoring Ennis, he grabbed the woman's hand and kissed it without her approval. "Apologies," he said, unsure how she would take the gesture. "I just wanted to thank you for patching me up. I may have to get myself yet injured again tomorrow, so that I may be conscious this time. Until then." He brushed back his hair and walked off, assured in his idiotic mind that she wanted him.

The dining hall was his choice of travel, as the man felt his stomach aching from hunger. He had eaten not but berries and thistle for more days than he'd like to remember. His eyes first spotted a roasting skewed hog that made his mouth begin to water. He devoured everything in his path, from the meats to the greens, and everything in between. After he was satisfied, the man moved to drink. He grabbed a few pints of ale and moved over to one of the long tables, enjoying the music and the fights as if he were on his very own ship at sea. The Guratans really knew how to make a man feel at home, though he suspected it may have been to fatten them up so they would be slow in the arena. Such was not a worry for himself, though, as he was used to this sort of thing.

"Gortul! Come, drink with me mate," he shouted once he spotted the large sentinel. At least he thought it was Gortul, his vision was slightly blurred at this point though he was still just getting started. The pirate grabbed some whiskeys and more ale. "You are large in size, my friend, but I think I can take you when it comes to drink. Here, lets have a contest!" Whether or not the man was to agree, Dalious downed a shot and continued on.

I think I'm just gonna get really wasted in preparation for said showdown. Also, if any lady characters feel the need to slap Dalious, you have my approval lol. Just throwing that out there.
They all had a bit of relief when they finally got to Reena's farm. Raven almost immediately went straight to sleep on a couch, while Ethan checked out the woman's book collection. He always had a soft spot for fantasy novels, so he picked up one of George RR Martin's books and skimmed through it. The smell of a fresh book always calmed his nerves.

"Great collection," he told her as he continued skimming. "One of my favorites."

Johnny was still a little on edge, and though they had a moment to relax, he couldn't. Who knows what was still just outside, besides the horses of course. He checked his weapon and holstered it again, staying near to one of the windows.

"You should all get some rest," he said. "I'll keep first watch. Before you do, we should talk about those things though. What do we know about them? Kill the brain. There are animal like versions of them that can climb..."

"Don't get bit," Ethan added. "That's how you turn. I've seen it happen fast on the streets back in the city, and I've also seen it happen slower with a student of mine in the car...I'm...I was a teacher by the way. Not that it matters anyway."

"Reena, how stocked is this place?" Johnny asked. "Not to intrude on your place, but we have to start thinking about the long term. We might have to stay for awhile, and if things get messy, we'll need to go out and get supplies. Maybe on horseback. Is there a grocery store or anything like that around here?"

No worries or rush. I'm extremely busy this week to, so much mail it's wearing me out lol. (I'm a mailman by the way) Take your time.
Raven knelt down and whispered a prayer for the dead people. She didn't know them, but this girl was right. If she were dead amongst strangers, she's want the same thing. A tear rolled down her cheek as she tried to be strong. Even with these people around her, these strangers, she felt so alone. She almost fell backwards from exhaustion, but Ethan caught her and set her upright. "Thanks," she told him.

Johnny raised an eyebrow and nodded to the newcomer. "That's him!" he told her. It wasn't much longer after that, when the girl had pointed them in the right direction, that he realized this was probably the exact person James was aiming to find. A bit of luck after all.

"Thank you," Johnny told her as they began walking through the darkness of the trees. "You must be the girl James was on about."

"Hopefully it's safe there," Ethan said, still helping Raven manage along. "We won't be a burden, maybe we can wait this thing out until its over."

Raven rolled her eyes as she was then able to walk on her own. "The military just bombed the city," she said, wiping the tears from her eyes. "I think whatever this is, it just started. Sorry to rain on your parade, pal. I don't even think we should stay out here long, it's just a matter of time before it comes this way. If it hasn't already."

Ethan knew she was probably right, but he still kept a glimmer of hope inside. He just wanted to find his wife and kids, but wherever they were, it would have to wait until tomorrow. Searching out for them in the dark would just be plain dumb.

"You live out here?" Ethan asked the girl. "I came out near here a few times with my family. We would ride horses on the trails. They told me to meet them out here, God I hope they're okay."

"They might have been trying to get in," Johnny told him. "The locals out here were making everyone leave."

"If that's the case, my wife would of made a camp nearby," Ethan said. "She would, I know it. First light, I have to go look for them."

"I hope you find them," Raven said. "I'm Raven, by the way."

"Ethan."

"Johnny."

"Name's Dallen," he told the two.

After that, there wasn't much talking, at least from Dallen's side. They walked for hours on end, until finally Dallen halted them.

"We're going to need to rest," he said. "It's still a long way, no sense in rushing it."

There was a storage room nearby that the lawyer opened, using his pipe to smash off the handle. It was small and dark inside, but enough to get the job done. He lit his zippo so the two could see for a while. Nothing much, other than a broken sink, some mops and a bucket. A few other items sprawled about the floor.

"I'll take watch, you two should get some rest first," he told them. "We should be safe in here tonight. When we're ready, we go nonstop until we reach the woods outside of the city. From there...hell, we'll have to figure it out as we go."

The man sat down against the door, cracking his neck and wishing he still had cigarettes.
Lol. My bad. Hehe. I cosplayed as deadpool recently at a super hero party. Was so fun.
