@Komager interesting, but i have come up with another idea, it would still largely fit into a rival warband concept but maybe a Goblin warlord instead. lots of clockwork & Steampunk technology intermixed with the Orcs and trolls.

are we allowed to have steam/clockwork tech @dragonmancer?

This is an awesome idea. It's sorta similar to mine; I plan to have a sort of Beastman, created as a champion by a sort of but not all powerful demon, and hes just sorta spent his time gathering beastkin followers until recently. They could end up being fierce rivals.

Im fine with a rivalry between beastmen and orcs, though im still deciding if im going to go with a warcraft or warhammer flavor of orc. a warcraft version would have more of a society behind it and internal politics... however the warhammer flavor wouldnt but would be a society of total war, every facet of society being bent on making war.
Currently I'm thinking of some kind of ogre/orc warchief and or shaman/warlock kind of conglomeration. But that's all pretty vague.

I'm pretty firm on the ogre/orc who's power isn't from themselves but the huge war band they control. Though he would be semi-badass with an artefact weapon or something.
after doing some research on sniper rifles i would lean towards a needler rife or exitus rifle (which wouldnt really be an option) above most things. They are versatile and can be just as devastating as a bolter to infantry or heavy infantry. Assuming i was unable to get a Necron weapon or something absolutely retarded like that.

But thats just me.
ok, i could have probably read that bit closer.
Well, i have a vauge concept of a pistolier from the Total War: Warhammer game. Horse, couple of pistols and thats it. Im also thinking about making him a little bit of a whimp. Eg: he would much rather be an ambusher or use his horse to circle the enemy picking them off and be in no 'real' danger himself and run away if directly confronted.

So a well armed scout or a significant problem for any infantry units without the speed to run him down. As for base profession, probably a scout for the Imperial Army or something like that.

and i have an idea of a dwarven engineer who's ultimate goal is to build a steam-tank or something equally absurd, and be a heavy (large calibur) gunner who's main job with the party is to put sling lead and fix other's guns... and be a dick to Knights because "Yar a t'ing of the past laddie, tanks are gonna put you lads out of work."

at the beginning though im thinking... an apprentice engineer with a blunderbus, a warhammer and possibly some cheap armor.
@Jbcool i swear i am only kinda stalking you like a lost puppy looking for interesting games.

or.. rather im interested in this!
this sounds like my kind of fun.
Personally i would have gone with a Bolt-rifle with a scope or a powerful las-gun. or something along the lines of the Vendacair rifle.

And, im not sure if a ratling could carry an autocannon, unless it was gutted to remove major components like the auto-loader for magazines and most of the cooling systems. Personally i expect it would be a bolt action single shot weapon, that would actually be quite versitile against any infantry and some vehicles. But then i would go with a Las-cannon for the same effect and not have to carry around the presumably heavy darts. Although if i find another game where i might play an Astartes ill keep this in mind
