Because existence is dangerous and it could be harmful to either themselves or others should they or dangerous entities within their world recklessly seek to gain access to it. Existence has enought problems as is, introducing new entities, parties, and possible threats to it is just making things worse, especially if these worlds are unable to defend themselves within existence once they access it.

Ok, so existence is basicly what every dimension that exists is contained within. Your home dimension and it's sub-dimensions are included in this. There are dimensions that know about existence and those that don't. As part of the people that now travel, or at least will at some point, existence, you should follow a generally held rule and avoid revealing existence to the dimensions that don't know of it. Beyond that, exploring it yourself and asking around is going to net you far more info then I could ever tell you about.

Give me a second that's actually a really good question in and of itself.
Um....
What is existence like, what's the level of technology out here, and how might you make an income, among other things I can think of off the top of my head.
I won't have good answers for these questions, as their answers are either big or broad, but questions that can net you a lot of useful info are definitely ones you should ask, even if you don't always get answers.

Getting where or what I want at some point and as of right now, trying to advise a band that could potentially be far out of their depths while working towards my current goal.

I'm sorry, but fear is far from proper respect in the long run, especially when you have no base, no allies, and no resources of which to use should a large or powerful portion of existence decide to hunt you down. And past experiences don't qualify as fact out here, so I would be careful.
