The Gifted: A Fast Paced Superpower RP (Relaunch)

Jake

When the strangely familiar man threw his hat down the beach, Jake chased after it with surprising speed. He barked at the inanimate object as he went, as though ordering it to come back down to the ground. When it finally complied, he was on top of it the second it touched down. He wasn't about to let it get away again. But rather than return it to it's owner to be thrown again, Jake bit a massive chunk out of it and then another before realizing that the thing tasted disgusting. This wasn't food.

The dog did his best to spit out chunks of straw into the sand. Gross. He then looked back up at the man who threw the frisbee hat and was still watching Jake. Jake then decided to bring the man his hat back. He grabbed what was left of it between his teeth and plodded along the beach, dropping the hat at the mans feet and giving him a smile.

Nate

Nate only half paid attention to the girly reunion. He had very little interest in these strangers and simply sipped on his drink until he noticed someone else approach. He didn't think he knew this redheaded man but kind of felt uneasy at the sight of him. Something about this man bothered him. Nate didn't like him and he didn't know why. That bothered him more.

"This is Nate, a… friend." said Aya as she introduced him to her friends, whose names were apparently Cassandra and Sebastian. Nate flashed them both a friendly smile but was still slightly uncomfortable. Sebastian greeted him, seemingly pleasant enough, and even invited them all to a volleyball game.
"I love volleyball" said Nate with perhaps a little too much enthusiasm. He did though. He then heard a voice in his head say "Wait, aren't we supposed to be doing something?" Oh, that was right. Jackson. Damn it, that kid was still ruining his fun. But wait. He could send a dupe or three after the obnoxious kids while he had fun. Boy he loved those clones sometimes.

Sebastien and Cassandra then moved off, Cassandra only widening Nates smile as she zapped Sebastien. Nate turned to Aya and held his hand up to her as the other rested behind his back in a gentlemanly like pose. "Shall we?" he asked her, ready to follow after the others.

Chase Scene

There was a rustle in the trees near the edge of the beach. Something moved. A gentle breeze swept through the air and a flock of birds rose out of the trees, scattering in all directions. They were fleeing from something. Some unseen monster that lurked just out of sight. But the monster didn't remain out of sight for long.

Suddenly bursting from the tree line came Jake. At full speed he bolted across the sand after some small furry rodent. His mouth was open and his tongue hung from one side like a giant derp machine. He zig zagged across the beach in pursuit of the rodent with surprising speed but couldn't match the other creatures agility as it continually evaded him. He didn't mind though. He was having the time of his life chasing this little critter.

His senses were all locked on his target. So much so in fact that he didn't even notice there were other people around until he barrelled into someones legs and sent them tumbling to the sand. Jake stumbled a little himself but was quickly back to his paws, looking for his new buddy.

Gone.

Where had the little bugger gone? Had he scurried off in the split second that Jake wasn't watching? He spun around a couple of times as he mumbled "Where did he go? Where is he?" Still no sign. He stopped, only now taking notice of the rather oddly dressed and gangly man he had run into. Jake noticed beak like nose of this man and the odd clothes he wore. There was something strangely familiar about him. Not that Jake particularly cared. He was still too interested in continuing the chase. He got right in the downed mans face, a little too close for comfort actually, and asked him "Where did he go? Did you see him?" not expecting the man to be able to understand him but noticing something odd about the sound of his voice. It didn't feel like it was just in his head anymore. The dog inadvertently slobbered on the man's face in his eagerness to find the rodent.

Before the poor victim of Jake's lumbering frame could respond though, something caught the dog's attention. He saw something out of the corner of his eye. Something moved. Entirely on instinct, he barrelled after whatever it was until he hit the shoreline and stumbled, falling flat on his face. A small wave smashed into him and snapped him out of his chase frenzy then. His mind at least somewhat cleared by the water, he quickly stood and shook as much of the water from his fur as he could.

The little blighter had gotten away but damn it, this place was fun. His tongue dropped out of his mouth again as he wondered what else he could chase.

Nate

Following along after Aya, Nate took another sip from his drink. He looked over his shoulder at his duplicate who had retaken his position on the sun lounger and kind of wished he had sent the clone to search for the maniacs rather than going himself. Damn it. He could have been sunning himself right now. Oh well. Plenty of time for that later. Now he had to figure out why Kuro and Mu were suddenly on the outside of Jackson.

He turned back to Aya, ready to ask her all about herself when he saw her open her mouth as though she was about to ask him something herself. Mom always taught him to let ladies go first so he kept his trap shut. But then Aya was distracted and ran off to hug some girl Nate had never seen before. Nate was confused and, as always, was full of questions but he decided to hang back and let Aya talk with what he assumed to be an old friend.

I assumed that's how it worked for Light. She's just so comfortable being a toon that taking that away would actually add to her distress. Owlman would be more comfortable not being the Owlman, so that's what he got. So it depends on what he's more comfortable being.

I actually see a lot of similarities between the two, right down to the sonic shriek/howl. Although Owlman is a much more pleasant person than Jake.

Also, I'm thinking of giving Jake back his voice while he's here. That's probably the thing he misses (second) most about being human.

I still have no clue what to do with Jake. I actually had the same idea as GVM in that this place might revert him to his human form but I don't want to just copy Owlman (I kind of inadvertently copied him when I made Jake) Plus I kinda want him to stay a dog. He's more fun that way. Maybe I can explain it away by saying that he actually prefers being a dog...?

Nate flashed Aya another smile when she asked him to take care of her body. The smartass in him wanted to make some kind of comment about that but she cut him off by clarifying what she meant. Nate simply held his hands in the air and made a face as though saying "What else would I do?". He half expected her to drop to the sand when she used her powers, thinking that when the mind left the body it could no longer control it. He was clearly wrong though as Aya stood perfectly still as she informed him that she was going to look around.

She was quiet then and Nate simply shrugged and looked confused by what was happening. "I'll just...wait here then." he said as he folded his arms, trailing off as he realized she probably couldn't hear him anymore. Another awkward silence followed and a couple of people wandered past, staring at the stock still Aya and the awkward Nate. "Hi. How you doing?" Nate said to them pleasantly as they went about their own business.
"What's she doing?" came a voice from behind him. Nate turned to see a duplicate approach holding a coconut drink with a straw and a little umbrella poking out of the top.
The duplicate took a sip of the drink through the straw as Nate responded "Helping. Where did you get that?"
"There's a bar over there" the duplicate informed him with a pleased smile as he tossed a thumb over his shoulder "They've got all kinds of-"
"Well go get me one" said Nate, cutting the duplicate off mid sentence "And one for the lady too"
The duplicate gave an annoyed Tsk sound before dropping one shoulder heavily to the ground in a hunchback posture. "Yeth mathter" he groaned with a heavy lisp in his best Igor voice. He then turned and headed back towards the bar, adopting a heavy limp as he went.
"Nailed it!" Nate called after the duplicate. He knew that the clone would maintain the posture the entire way to the bar because that's what he'd do. Commitment to a bit.

When Aya returned to her body, she would find Nate holding two coconut drinks. One in each hand. When she informed him that she had found three Jackson's, pondering that it wasn't supposed to work that way, Nate turned his head to the sky and groaned. "No it's not" he told her "Little brat copied my power" He arched an eyebrow as he thought of something though and mumbled "That's actually pretty impressive". With another sigh he extended his hand towards Aya, offering her one of the drinks before saying "Mind showing me where he...they are?"

Nate was somewhat surprised when Aya pulled her hand back from his. He didn't normally have that reaction on the ladies. But then he saw her cheeks begin to turn a shade of pink and it all made sense. She was embarrassed. Understandable. Here he was, standing in front of her nearly naked and leaving very little to the imagination. He looked down at his shorts and very nearly felt embarrassed himself. Or he would if he wasn't as proud of his body as he was. Hell, he had spent a lot of time working on this here masterpiece. He rubbed the back of his neck and let out a barely audible giggle, more in empathy for Aya than embarrassment.

He'd have to kill whoever had made him wear these shorts....Or thank them...He couldn't decide.

When Aya asked what his friends name was, he thought about it for a second and said "Jackson...or Kuro...Or maybe Mu but I hope not" he began trailing off as he thought about how confusing this kid was and watched Aya out the corner of his eye "It's complicated" he said, not wanting to confuse her. "But he likes to hang out on another plane sometimes. I heard you can do the same so I thought maybe you could help me look there"
