The OOC is up! roleplayerguild.com/topics/92143-yasur..

I'll be filling out a second post with rules and all that boring stuff shortly. Lets move all discussion here, and if I've approved your character feel free to post it in the characters tab.
The CS

Name: (Include given name and any aliases/nicknames)

Race: (You can be either human, or any creature from Eastern mythology)

Age: (Let's be reasonable. Humans have human life spans. Spirits... keep it under 300)

Gender: (This used to be a simple question, but these days, who knows.)

Appearance: (Pic or description is fins. Spirits, be sure to include your human and spirit forms.)

Skills: (What things are you good at? Know Kung Fu? Expert tracker? Put that stuff here)

Powers: (What magical abilities do you have? Let's keep the powers relatively tame. There will be room to grow)

Weapons/Equipment: (Any weapons, armor, or materials go here, magical or otherwise.)

Bio: (Include history, personality, and motivations. Why did you join the guild)

The boring but necessary rules

1.) Standard roleplaying etiquette. I shouldn't need to say this, but it can't be overstated. No godmoding, autohitting, etc. Keep drama out of the OOC. If you have an issue, PM me.

2.) Post at least a solid paragraph with every post. There is no maximum posting length. Proofread your post and save it to your clipboard before clicking submit. Trust me, that last one will come in handy.

3.) Everybody will start with one character. If you want a second character, PM me for permission first. I may allow multiple characters to balance out human/spirit ratio if the number of active players becomes low.

4.) The following powers are not allowed: Extreme Healing Factors, Teleportation, Speeds arbitrarily close to teleportation, Intangibility, Mind Control/Mind reading, Any vague powers with non-specific effects.

5.) Keep power levels under 9000 please. There will be room for growth, but start with tame powers. Let's not go around making craters right from the start.

6.) Killing rules: No killing player characters without permission. When out and about, you may assume that there exist nameless low-tier monsters for you to go nuts on, and you may kill them however badassly you wish. For any named NPCs or ones with a title, you must follow standard combat protocol. If your character does something reckless, expect their life to be on the line. Performing a root canal on a dragon will not end well for you.

7.) I will allow players to create their own assignments if they like. If you want to be in charge of an assignment, PM me the details, including any relevant villains and NPCs.
Those That Walk Among Us...

Since the dawn of civilization, mankind has shared its world with supernatural beings. The relations between humans and spirits vary depending on personal histories, biases, and attitudes. Some spirits live peacefully among humans, even aiding them with their magical powers when the need arises; others seek to prey on unsuspecting men and women, caring only for their own motives. What humans fear most about spirits, though, is their ability to disguise themselves, making them indistinguishable from any human. The grinning shopkeeper you buy your tea from could be the very dragon that just flooded the town in a fit of rage. For centuries, humans lived in fear, trusting only their superstitions to recognize spirits.

However, one diligent priest devised a means of having spirits identify themselves. He called it "The Brand" and it took the form of talismans that looked like an ordinary charm or jewelry. When worn by a spirit, certain features would be revealed, showing the world what they were. Perhaps a dragon would have his scales visible across his cheeks, or a kitsune's ears and tail would become visible. Though these brands cannot be removed, they cause no side effects other than making spirits obvious to humans. So, with this tool available the human government issued an ultimatum to all spirits: step forward and reveal yourselves, or become an enemy of humanity.

In order to enforce this new law, the government formed a guild of skilled warriors called "Yasuragiha." Located in a fortress in the city of Ayabukuro, this guild is responsible for finding and branding all spirits, and hunting down those who refuse. They also fight malevolent spirits who cause trouble for humans, branded or not.

Naturally, the law received resistance on multiple fronts. Although branded spirits are afforded the same legal rights as any human, many refuse to step forward and accept the brand. Whether it be because of a sense of pride, or a legitimate fear of bigoted persecution from the public, many spirits wish to remain in hiding. Likewise, many humans would rather see spirits run out of town and feel the branding laws are not strong enough. Some fear and despise the guild's very existence, and offer open resistance in the hope of taking it down.

The Guild

Yatsuragiha's Mission Statement: We exist to ensure that all spirits live an open and honest existence among humans. We hold that revelation through branding benefits both humans and spirits alike, and helps foster mutual trust between the races. We hold that living in hiding or committing hostile acts against any settlements within our sphere of influence is a threat to the peace of the land. We offer an open hand to all spirits who wish to follow our laws; we offer blades of justice to those who refuse.

Guild Members: Any human or branded spirit may join the guild. They will be given shared quarters to live in, will have access to all guild amenities, and will receive payment for each completed assignment. Those who fail to complete assignments in a timely fashion will be expelled from the guild. Opinions of productive guild members will be considered when making this decision. Expelled members may never set foot on Yasuragiha soil again. Likewise, any member may leave at any time without penalty, but they may never return.

The Council: The council is a committee of 13 senior officials, 7 humans and 6 spirits, who approve of all assignments and manage all guild affairs. The word of any council member is absolute within guild walls, and their orders should be considered those of a military superior. The council also deals with all political matters so that guild members need only focus on their assignments.

Assignments: When the council receives word of a spirit in hiding or a hostile spirit posing a threat, they will create an assignment. Assignments are hung on a wall in the main hall, and are accepted on a first come first serve basis. All assignments are given an estimated difficulty rating, and a reward to be split among all participants. The mission is accepted when all participants sign the form and submit it to the council. Guild members are left to work out their teams and attack plans. Higher rewards are offered for peaceful resolutions, but a peaceful outcome is not a requirement. It is considered general etiquette not to take a mission before the whole team is assembled. All assignments are accepted at your own risk.

There is a standing assignment for all members: If you find an unbranded spirit, bring it to the guild for branding.

Amenities:

And, in the forest outside the guild lies a hidden hospital...

Maybe Yahiko can get kidnapped after the tournament as a means of luring Kaoru to their dojo so they can fight her with impossible odds. The daughter's feelings could be shaken during the tournament, but completely swayed during the kidnapping. She could then help get Yahiko out of the dojo safely. I think a quick CS for Ryuuto would be a good idea.
@Rune_AlchemistOOC will be up within 24 hours.

I'll say that everyone can make up to two characters; one human, one spirit.
@RekaiganOkay, you're good to go.
@Rekaigan Just list the elements that he can use and give him some means of writing out his spells in his equipment. Does he write it on a blank scroll? Draw it in the dirt? Write it in thin air? I just like to know exactly how abilities work. After that it should be good.

@Delta44 Looks good.

And now, my lovely pair of guild members.

@Rune_Alchemist Looks good!

@Rekaigan I need you to elaborate on Nemu's magic abilities. What spells does he know? What is the extent of his power with those spells?

I'll be having a couple of characters up in a bit, and hopefully have a legitimate thread up some time tomorrow.
@Ashifili Looks good. A nice model character to pave the way. I'll have my first character up some time today.
Yea, I was thinking the top contender would be the son. Masters generally refrain from tournaments in general so their students can show off what they learned. Maybe they confront the master after the tournament, which Kaoru might need Kenshin's help with. I think 16 would be a good age for the daughter, maybe a little older for the son. As for Ryuuto, he's got a lot to live up to, wanting to be as successful as his father both in his swordsmanship an running the family business. I'd say he's diligent and in some ways more ruthless than his father. He'll use any dirty trick to win, including taking a hostage to make the toughest competitors throw their matches.
