People like to nudge aside the fact that there's a level of commitment to hosting, and joining an RP. The majority of players don't have it in either case, regardless of how interesting an idea is.

I've been gone so long that I forgot what the status bar was like. It's like coming back to an old apartment, except it's not an apartment anymore, it's just two walls and a lot of heroine addicts.

~ Chapter 69 ~

Grant Me A Joke

Sheira piloted their hovercraft over the city with precision, hovering just over the civilian district, and heading for something on the horizon. Tech-Mo was a massive city, lined with towers and research centers. But the Tech-Mo fortress stood out among everything else as a shining becon.. Or rather, a dark castle.

It floated above the city slightly, hovering motionless with several crystals surrounding it, and seemingly keeping it afloat. The crystals were mounted in mechanisms that Jenso hadn't seen before, and the castle was even larger than Feralda's marble palace.

"Be on your best behavior," Sheira commanded, "Please! I don't want to miss this opportunity because one of you was being disrespectful! The king is a very temperamental fellow."
In their rush to get out of the lab and into the street, the three individuals didn't take notice of a creeping presence, lurking outside of the lab with its eyes fixated on something interesting. Regardless, Sheira led both Jeff and Jenso out into the courtyard, and into the hovercraft that they used to get around the city regularly. Looking up, Jenso might have noticed that it seemed to be the late evening, but it was indeed the next morning already. The sun couldn't pierce through the dense smog above them very proficiently. It was a mysterious atmosphere. And what of the king's presence? Where did Sera fit into all of this? Only time would tell..

Sheira snatched the Scouter out of midair and held it up to her right eye to examine the gauntlets. "No way..! These things are... Their readings are off the charts! We're looking at Arcane density that.. It's literally breaking the laws of arcane physics!" Sheira announced in a terrified, dropping the scouter. "Jenso, fusing Ki and arcane energy.. We've never even been able to detect Ki with our machines, but it's almost like this new state of energy is... We can see it!"
Sheira flinched at first, but as the process was completed, she looked on the creation with a bottomless curiosity.

"What in the world have you done?" She asked, completely taken aback. She blinked a few times and pushed Jeff out of the way to examine the gauntlets closer. "Jeff! Fetch the arcane scouter!"
Sheira jumped into Jeff's path and put her hands on her pronounced hips. "What part of grants did you not understand? If we don't leave now, we'll be late! I don't want those assholes over in YAle house to swoop in and take our money from under us!"
"He's above the civilian district, descending into Tech-mo fortress where all the city's head scientists will be, in order to get a grant out of him." The woman stated. "Oh, I'm sheira, by the by. Nice to meet you, Jenso."

Lark and Mikey's Ki sources were strong enough to appear beyond the thousands of weaker civilians, but Jenso could feel something else, much stronger than either of them. Perhaps it was because they were weakened? Or was it something else? No, wait, there were two energy signatures even stronger than theirs! And they both seemed oddly familiar.
The woman glared at Jeff and shook her head before smiling back at Jenso. She turned to Jeff again and sighed. "Honestly, we don't have the funds to be giving people free room and board!" She announced, dismissing the thought a moment later. "Are you ready for the welcoming ceremony? I've already spoken with Albert. We shouldn't miss up the chance to impress him with our newest inventions! Every since he took Tech-mo under his wing, he's been handing out grants left and right.."
"This many mishaps Jeff?? I don't care about your illusions! It's been years since you've shown up here, and I admit that your automotons have made Tech-mo a new paragon of technology in the tri-states, but enough is enough!" She shouted back. The woman then noticed Jenso and went silent. She glared at him, and then back to Jeff. "Who is this?"

The Sunlight Is Blotted Out By Smog

Jenso awoke, jolted out of his dreams by an explosive noise. One of Jeff's experiments blew up, any not in good company either.

"Jeff, this is the last straw!" A woman's voice cried out from the other room. A tall woman in a white lab coat was completely covered in soot from head to tow. She glared at Jeff angrily with her fists clenched.
