Persona: Not your average Sea Elf pirate, there is more to Irisara than one can see at first glance. Being the captain of a ship full of ravenous cutthroats requires a strong mind and body and Irisara is a shining example of that. Tough as nails with a mind for naval warfare she leads her crew and those she calls allies into battle with a combination of precision and ferocity. Irisara can come off as a bit of a grouch but eventually once she warms up to others she quickly becomes more amicable. Until then it's best not to upset her as she is a pirate and fighting is something she isn't afraid to do.
Post Example: The sails of The Amaranthea caught strong tailwinds as she attempted to close the distance between herself and her prize. It was a Farendar merchant ship traveling along the coast with spices, coin, and other valuables just waiting to be plundered. Unfortunately for the crew of the merchant ship, the night prior brought in foul winds causing the ship to be dragged a bit farther from the coast while still maintaining its route. This was perfect for The Amaranthea as this meant that the prize was farther away from help and less likely to escape to a harbor.
The Amaranthea moved in on the merchant ship surprisingly well. The ships ram slammed into the rear of the ship and destroy its rudder. On the deck of The Amaranthea it's captain stood with her arms crossed as she nodded to her swivel gunners. The order was given and without delay the two swivel gunners fired two chain shots at the masts of the merchant ship. Their prize was now without a steer and winds to carry it, the ship was now a treasure chest on a raft. The pirates boarded the ship howling like mad men as their swords rang out of their sheaths. The merchant sailors had little time to react but even for those with the sense to arm themselves it was all for naught. The pirates cut down those who fought back and blooded those who didn't. In a matter of minutes the ship was theirs and the pirates cheered as their captain exited the quarters of the merchant ship's captain...holding the man's head by his hair.
"You goddamn savages! The Royal Navy will have your heads for this!", one of the merchant sailors yelled as he was brought to his knees. One of the pirates, Quartermaster Dashiil hit him with the hilt of his sword before barking back, "Shut it before I cut out ya tongue! Your in the presence of Captain Silaen, Pirate Queen of The Amaranthea!". Irisara laughed as she tossed the head of the former merchant captain overboard, "Its quite alright Dashiil, I'll look past the formalities right now. How many did we lose in the fight?". Dashiil looked down in scorn of himself as he uttered the words, "Two, Captain. Velosi and Neiro, the bastards managed to gut our boys early on".
"Well that's unfortunate, but I do believe we have a chance to fill the void left by their deaths. I see twelve men before me, six if you only count the ones living. I say we do some recruiting", Irisara watched as her crew began to smile one by one while their prisoners looked on in horror and confusion. "So who among you lot wish to join our little family? C'mon speak up, anyone?", at first there were no takers but soon enough one spoke up after realizing what the alternative was. Then another spoke up, and another, and another until all six were yelling over each other. "My aren't you all eager! Unfortunately we only need two of you so..", Irisara pulled out four crude wooden knives, they were small and thin but strong enough to pierce flesh. Taking the tips of the knives she pressed them against her fangs causing the venom to coat the blade. Once all four were coated she handed them to Quartermaster Dashiil. "Lock them below decks and toss these in with them, don't let them out until only two remain", the crew began to chuckle as their prisoners started to panic and look at each other in fear of what was to come. One of them even had the gall to yell back, "You fish elf bitch! And if we all are poisoned?! What then? No replacements for y-". The sailor's insults were silenced by Irisara shoving a poisoned knife into his neck. The entire ship went silent as the man's body collapsed on the deck writhing about as the venom destroyed his body.
"...now that he's done with, let's be on with it then", the crew cheered in unison as they pillaged the lower decks of the merchant ship and brought up with them various wines and foods from which they all ate merrily. The gold would be brought up after the main act. Quartermaster Dashiil lead the prisoners below decks carefully jabbing at them with his cutlass before leaving them below and locking the hatch. The pirates gathered around the gridded cargo hatch to see which of these sailors they'd soon welcome into the fold. Irisara stood above atop the hatch and looked down at the five unfortunate souls with a smirk on her face, "Alright boys, get to it! After this we make haste for Stormacre!" The men roared in anticipation of the wine, women, and song that was to come. They danced, drank wine, and scrapped while waiting for the battle below to come to a close. Unfortunately for them the lookout began to cry out, "SHIP AHOY! CAP'N SHE'S A MAN O' WAR! FARENDAR ROYAL NAVY APPROACHIN' PORTSIDE!". Every soul on both The Amaranthea and the merchant chip went dead silent as they waited for their captain's orders.
"All hands back to The Amaranthea, leave the spoils! Quartermaster have a group of men take what oil is below our decks and place half of it on the merchant ship!"
"But Cap'n the spoils! The oil'll be more useful with us than blast in way our prize!"
"That Man O' War'll blow us to hell if we stay on. The prize will weigh us down when we flee!"
"I assume ya have a plan?"
"We load the oil onto the ship, we sail opposite it and when that man o' war comes near to inspect it our swivels blast it to hell. It wont stop the navy but it'll give us time to put as much distance between us and it and along the way we toss the rest overboard as fire barrels"
Dashiil nodded with an approving smirk before relaying Irisara's orders to the crew, "ALL HANDS ON DECK, BRING UP THE OIL AND SPLIT THE PILE! HELMSMAN, TURN US AROUND AND GET US TO STORMACRE!. The crew of The Amaranthea rushed across the decks as they moved the oil. At the same time the man o' war was closing the distance but it hesitated to fire on the ship, instead it fired warning shots into the water. Irisara was suspicious, the man o' war's crew easily outnumbered her own and while her's was skilled the numbers alone had them at a disadvantage. "Dashiil, my spyglass", she called and not a moment later it was in her hands. To her surprise when looking through the telescope she saw a deckhand waving a white flag as the man o' war approached. "Strange...they wish to speak", Irisara hadn't known the royal navy to deal with pirates kindly and she wasn't going to let her guard down because this lot claimed to. When the man o' war arrived Irisara made sure to use the merchant ship as the neutral ground. The massive ship came up alongside the trade vessel and it towered over both the merchant ship and and Irisara's brig. Captain Silaen and her Quartermaster stood atop the deck of the merchant ship as they awaited word from the royals. A rope ladder unfurled down the hull of the warship and shortly after the Captain and an emissary came climbing down. The two groups eyed stared down for seemingly an eternity before the emissary spoke, "Irisara Silae-"
"Captain Irisara Silaen", Dashiil corrected with a scowl on his face.
"Forgive me, Captain. I represent The Overseers of Serenity and their goal of maintaining order throughout Miras"
"What's this have to do with us?", Irisara was on edge. The sooner they'd be done with this the better.
"Well my organization wishes to make you a deal. Give us your services and we shall provide you and your crew with a full pardon from the Queen of Farendar"
"Damn your pardons, we've been fine without 'em for this long and we'll last much longer still"
"There is also a considerable reward upon the completion of your duties., Irisara's mood perked up immediately after hearing the last part of the offer. She looked back to her crew who replied with looks of support, they knew their captain was the woman for the job, and the fact that she'd be bringing home a trove of gold made the deal all the sweeter. "Where we headed?".
Equipment:
Irisara wields two of these master crafted swords which she has named Galen and Agaen
Ability/Magic/:
Leviathan's Touch- A trait of all Sea Elves, Irisara has small barbs on her fingertips which can produce and inject a paralytic venom into an enemy.
Siren's Kiss- A more rare genetic trait where instead of barbs, Irisara has two fangs capable of injecting venom so potent it can kill a man in minutes with a single bite. However both the Leviathan's Touch and the Siren's Kiss are barely used by Irisara unless she is without weapon. That doesn't mean she never uses it to intimidate.
Yeah that would probably be best, if Inertia doesn't post by the time the rest of the team gets to the garage we might have to teleport Seth with us. Now to figure out how to bring Eva into the fold.
John was unable to look at Pariah while she barked at him over allowing the Gifted to infiltrate the base, and he refrained from looking at her until she she finished telling him to go to the security room. For a moment he looked down at his feet, then clenched his hands. "I guess I'm just not really cut out for this...I can't compete with you when it comes to taking down Gifted. But then again I'm just a tool, aren't I? That's what they tell me...and I just wanted to hear that I was worth something, for once..." John spoke, trying to stall with as relevant a conversation as he could manage, secretly inching one of his hands closer to his shock batons.
"And only just recently did I feel like I was actually worth something..." He added, looking up at Pariah. He then took a slow breath, pulled out his communication device, and contacted the rest of the Gifted. "Hey Cole..." He started, his hand gripping the handle of one of his shock batons. I can't btray them...but I can't beat her in a fair fight... He thought, exhaling nervously. "What's your current situation? I think part of our plan might have been compromised..."
Pariah was suspicious of John from the start of his little speech. "Where is this coming from?", she thought to herself as she listened on to what John was saying. His last statement, about feeling like he was worth something, that's what confirmed her suspicions. What's more when John turned on his radio and mentioned a Cole, that's what sealed the deal. The name Cole was the one on the target file Mallory had given her before she arrived in the city. If this is the same Cole, and Pariah was pretty sure it was, then she'd have to be extra careful if John was with him now. Pariah moved her hand to her combat knife which was holstered on her hip, if anything looked suspicious Pariah would put John down. Maybe not kill him but definitely incapacitate him for later questioning and reindoctrination.
Cole had Jessica's arm slung over him as he started to help her to the elevator across the room. Normally it'd be a simple walk but with Jessica not being in the best state this already large room felt immense. That's when John came on his radio, "We found Jessica and are currently heading towards the garage by way of the elevator. What do you mean the plan has been compromised? What's going on?". Cole didn't wait for an answer he put the radio away and turned to look back at Cia and Car-tali, "We gotta double time it, grab her and let's go!", He ordered before turning back to get Jessica to the elevator.
On the other end of the radio Pariah smirked, she heard Cole mention they had Jessica and were taking the elevator. She looked to John with disappointment in her eyes before turning towards the direction of the elevator, "When this is over John, you'll be dealt with accordingly. Not by me, but by Mallory".
John looked back down at the floor, swallowing. She knows where they are...she'll get to them...I can't stall her any more...unless... He thought as his hand gripped the handle of the shock baton tighter. He slipped his radio back into his pocket, then quickly drew out both of his batons, closing the distance between himself and Pariah. Raising the shock batons he then struck her in the back, aiming to at least knock her off balance if not outright stun her.
In instant Pariah felt a surge of electricity flow through her body. Every muscle in her body began to tense up as she tried desperately to stop the shock. She managed to turn around to see John with his shock batons on her back. "Can't...take...much more!", she could barely function as she slowly lifted her arm towards John. It took an incredible amount of strength but she managed to grab John by the throat. It wouldn't do much good however as she barely managed to squeeze down before the electric shock got the better of her and she collapsed to the ground.
As soon as Pariah fell to the ground, John proceeded to jab her with his shock batons a few more times to make sure that she was really down for the count...after all, the last thing you want to do is underestimate a Warden. He then hurried off to the prison as originally planned, putting away one of his shock batons as he pulled the radio back out. "I just ran into Pariah...Cole you nearly got my ass killed, I swear to god..." He started, catching himself before he went off on a tangent. "I managed to trick and incapacitate her, but who knows for how long...."
"Alright, we're hauling ass to the garage, just get Seth and meet us there!", Cole replied before relaying the information he just received to the rest of his team.
Persona: To explain what kind of person Nilara is you have to explain both aspects of her. The real Nilara is a suave, reckless, and carefree individual who lives for danger and fortune. That's her normal side. The other side of her is more complex. Nilara is possessed, her body is home to a desire demon named "Saria". Whenever Nilara nears a place of magic such as ritual sites, shrines, or magical artifacts the barrier between her mind and Saria's weakens. This allows for Saria to influence Nilara's personality making her less of the dashing rogue that she is and more of a sinister conspirator. She becomes more serious and less empathetic. In the past, Saria's influence has caused Nilara to be responsible for the death of former allies. There are times when Nilara can be nowhere near any source of magic and yet Saria can still interact with her. Post Example: "Just another day in my fucked up life!", Nilara thought to herself as she fled the city guards. Apparently there was a bounty put on her in Qatar-Shan. Thankfully she arrived after The Sand Stalker did so she didnt have to worry about him hunting her. Vaulting over market stalls and weaving through crowds she evaded the guards until she arrived in a plazza. There she sat at a bench with her hood over her head as she waited for the guards to give up the search. "Sometimes it's just too easy. I wonder how the rest of the gang fared? Everything went to shit after we arrived at the hideout", her thoughts were interrupted as she noticed the entire plazza crowd was leaving the area. "Time to go", she got up to leave but quickly saw the civilians were being searched on their way out from the plazza. "Dammit...maybe one of these buildings", she moved over to the nearest door but found it was locked. That's when it hit her, the guards who chased her stayed a constant distance from her the entire chase. This search was too well organized and done to quickly to be by chance. This was a trap. From the time they entered the city every move was planned out.
The courtyard cleared out leaving Nilara at its center. The guards immediately rushed to surround her and for a moment Nilara thought about using her magic but decided against it when she saw the archers on the roof. "Its over" she thought as she raised her hands and the guards moved in to subdue her.
Later that night Nilara sat in the dungeons of Qatar-Shan, chained to the wall by her neck like an animal. Her hands were put in iron gloves and her mouth was gagged to prevent her from casting spells. "Well this sucks...", she thought as she sat there awaiting her execution. Just then four guards entered her cell and stood above her, two of them with weapons drawn. "Your time has come, witch", one of the guards said as he removed her neck chain. Nilara was escorted to the gallows in the main plazza of the city. There she stood upon the gallows with the hanging rope around her neck. She was hoping for it to be done quickly but of course the city guard had to brag about catching "The Necromancer".
"Nilara Varentia, also known as 'The Necromancer', leader of 'The Cursed Ones' bandit group and exile of the Sky Kingdom, for the crimes of banditry, murder, kidnapping, smuggling of contraband, theft, arson, desecration of sacred sites, vandalism, an public nudity, you have been sentenced to hang by the neck until until death. May whatever god you have show mercy on you", the speaker finally finished his bragging and signaled for the hangman to pull the lever. In those final moments the only thing going through Nilara's head was, "When the hell was I publicly nude? Probably one night at the tavern, wouldn't be surprised, I've done worse while drunk".
The hangman had his hand on the lever when a voice rang out over the silence of the crowd. "STOP!", cried the leader of a group of coalition soldiers. "Stop?", Nilara thought in confusion. "You cannot hang this woman! She has been conscripted into the service of the Earth Kingdom"
"What the hell for?!", she yelled in response. There was no way she was going to work as a city guard.
"A coalition force has been formed to combat the increasing monster attacks. She is to join the coalition and repel the creatures", the coalition soldier stated to the city-guard captain. A spectator yelled out from the crowd, "That's horseshit!
"Yeah I agree with that guy, I'd rather be hanged than get torn apart by whatever demonspawn you send me after!"
"It was assumed this would not be enough to convince you so as extra motivation I have been told to tell you that you will be paid well for your service"
There was a silence which seemed unreal. Everyone stood there wondering if The Necromancer would live another day. Finally Nilara answered, "Why the hell not, get this damn rope off my neck!". The entire crowd screamed and booed in anger. A few tried to climb up to the gallows but we're kicked back down. "Lets go before they do the hangman's job", Nilara said as she backed away from the edge of the gallow platform. The guards repelled the crowd as they escorted her to the city walls. There they put her on a horse with her hands bound behind her. "So how am I supposed to ride? I'm good but not that good", she asked the coalition soldier but it was clear he did not like her. He simply replied, "If you fall off we'll put you back on"
...what a gentleman. Whatever let's be off then" Equipment:
"Leech"
Magic:
Soul Drain- Her favorite spell as it can be used for more than killing. The Soul drain spell allows Nilara to sap the life energy of her opponent to revitalize herself. The spell does not kill the target unless she purposely drains them completely so it can be a great tool fo interrogation. If a target is drained to critical levels to the point they go unconscious they will awake after some time.
Equilibrium- Probably her least favorite spell, Equilibrium transfers whatever injures or damage Nilara takes and divides it equally between her and the target. It can go both ways meaning if an ally is seriously injured Nilara can repair them but at the cost of injuring herself. This means that if an ally has a broken leg Nilara can reduce it to a fracture but then that means her leg would also be fractured, she'd feel everything so this aspect of her spell is rarely used by her.
Ward- Since she does not wear armor Nilara relies on Ward spells for protection. Once cast it forms a shimmering green barrier that envelopes her body. If she is struck with a melee weapon she will not be injured but she will receive a bit of force which can push her back or send her flying depending on the force of the impact.
Glyph of Containment- By casting runes in a circle on the ground Nilara can creates a trap for the enemy. Anyone or anything that steps within the circle cannot leave it until either the spells wears off or they are magically resistant enough to break the barrier.
Corpse Summon- This spell is mostly used in the middle of a battle. Nilara can resurrect the bodies of the vanquished to serve as her undead thralls for a short time.
Conjure- When there are no corpses to resurrect Nilara conjures demons to aid her in battle. However she mostly conjures lesser demons as more powerful ones can be difficult to control and can be a hazard to herself and anyone around.
Weapon Enchant- Nilara's longsword "Leech" is special. It is capable of detecting whatever enchantment it's weilder desires and automatically drains magicka from them to enchant itself. Nilara can enchant the weapons of her allies but not in the way Leech does. She has to manually cast it on their weapons whereas Leech is automatic and almost instantaneous.
