— Rikers Island Prison, NYC —

A rhythmic tapping echoed down the hallway of the solitary confinement wing of Rikers Prison. Eventually a drumming on the door joined it. All at once it stopped and in the deafening silence to follow there came the sound of every lock disengaging at once.

The door at the end swung open and he walked out, steel shod cowboy boots clicking on the floor. Before he got halfway the alarms started and a guard turned the far corner, baton in hand. With a simple gesture Flagg threw the man against the wall with all of the care and gentleness of being hit by a car. Bones shattered and blood splashed across the floor.

As more doors opened tentatively behind him and the alarms continued, he laughed.

And so he lead his steadily growing gang of inmates through the prison, throwing cell doors open. It wasn't long before he never had to raise a finger against the guards. The mob did that for him, their bloodlust rising ever higher as the prison erupted in a riot that no lockdown ever had a hope of containing.

"Hood's breath!"

As his concentration wavered the exit back to Tokyo snapped shut. He stumbled back shouting more in surprise than pain at this point. The mage simultaneously opened Denul and Telas, the warrens of healing and fire. Within a heartbeat the burning in his face was fading to just a memory at the same time a miniature sun appeared between them.

"I hope that wasn't any kind of poison because if anything happens to me you're stuck here."

Quick Ben released both of the warrens and the fireball fell apart into a shower of sparks. Maybe he was lucky. Most women from his own world would have stuck a blade in him without a second though.

"Now all I wanted was to ask some questions. Like where are we... or where were we I suppose."

"Death take it!"

As the trees grew close enough to impede her progress she swore and brought the undead steed to a halt. Kallahar dismounted and gave an eerie, distorted whistle that prompted the mount to plunge beneath the ground. This wouldn't do at all. At this rate they would never catch up in time.

"Profane Aura, Etherfloat."

She rose a hands-breadth above the forest floor, high enough to be above any obstacles.

At the first flash of sorcery she stopped short, spinning to take cover behind a tree. A heartbeat after the flames passed she stepped out, one hand reaching out towards the enemies. Thinner parts of her armour may have retained a faint glow from the heat of the magecraft but that to quickly faded.

"The mercy was mine. Had I the intention I would have slain you and every one of your kin. But I stayed my hand on a rare whim."

The pointed gauntlet glowed with a dim light that nevertheless hurt to look at. After a moment it faded.

"Dispel Profane Aura."

Kallahar drifted to the ground and took a two handed grip on her sword.

"I give you a choice now. Face me in single combat and your kin that you have brought with you may flee to their homes. Or you can all attack at once and very likely all share the same fate. You, their leader, decides."

The mage moved from rooftop to rooftop, hoping to gain some sort of understanding of his surroundings. It wasn't working. This city, or whatever it was, was well beyond anything he had experienced. He needed a local, somebody who knew more than he did. More than that, he also needed a partner. Someone to watch his back. It had been years since he'd been caught out so alone.

Down below he spotted a girl that ducked into a side street after doing something unusual to a couple of other individuals. They appeared to fit in much better than he did himself. There's an opportunity now. Ordinarily he would use a messenger instead of being so crude but acting sooner seemed to be better than erring towards caution.

Quick Ben stared down and gauged her pace carefully. He opened a warren and stepped though with it closing behind him. A few heartbeats later and a handful of steps through the ankle deep layer of ashes Quick Ben opened another portal back to reality. He reached through and pulled the girl in with him.

The Death Knight shoo her head and put her helmet back on her head.

"I think, instead, some sort of seer. Given that he said that it provided 'purpose'."

Finding a leader did sound like a good idea though butbeing called inhuman toouched a deeply buried nerve within her. Kallahars thughts and actions might be monsterous but she was indeed human and perhaps all the more abhorrent for it. No, this insult demanded retribution.

"Emille and Ravenmar should be able to hold the village. Perhaps an attack from behind would route the entire force. A survivor fleeing such an engagement would be easy to follow home."

She swung up onto her mount and wheeled it about towards the direction the foxes had gone.
