About Me

I'm a roleplayer by night, but by day I'm a software engineer. I have been programming in some capacity since I was eight, and once I discovered programming I simply never stopped writing code. Some of that code I've written was for this very website, and maybe some day I'll add some more. However, most of my work is done in boring corporate land.

I discovered programming in a game called ROBLOX, and coincidentally that is also where I first discovered roleplaying. One day I was exploring the forums, and noticed a roleplaying section. Curious, I took a look and I was instantly hooked. The content was mostly in the Free RP level, with a small amount of Casual tier games, but at the time even that was high quality content to me. Over the years my interest in the game faded, and although I continued programming after ultimately leaving the community, I did not continue roleplaying.

Years later, I gradually started wanting to get back into roleplaying. I began googling around, and after looking at a few different websites I finally decided that the Guild seemed to be the best of them all. I made an account on December 13, 2014, and started jumping into some games; I quickly decided on sticking to mostly High Casual, but eventually moved more towards Advanced as I realized that most of the games I was in were easily at that level anyway. This was right around the time that Mahz was working on rebuilding the website from the ground up, and after chatting with him for a while in the IRC during some site downtime I decided that I wanted to help.

I ultimately didn't contribute too much, but nevertheless I was the first (and so far, only one of two?) non-anonymous users to help Mahz with developing the website. As a reward, after he implemented the trophy system I was awarded the special Benevolent Cyberpunk trophy, which gives me a special userbit that looks like this:

^ Seconded. This is your show so it's up to you, but I personally would use your generator to generate the continents only, and rework all the grasslands, deserts, etc. yourself in photoshop, and manually place the forests, mountains, etc. It makes a very hard edge on the arctics, and that needs to be smoothed out imo. And the deserts aren't very realistic, as @McHaggis mentioned. Just disable 'Geography' on the generator (I found it on google) and the rest will just be photoshop.

Again, it's up to you though. I can't force you to do anything a certain way, I can just recommend it. I'd even volunteer to rework the map myself, if you'd like.

Edit: Ninja'd. Will respond in a minute.
@UltikanaRe Let me rephrase. The "Aeride Sea", present on your nation sheet, is nonexistent on the full map. Furthermore, although I may just be overlooking it, I can't even find the geography in your sheet, anywhere on the map.
@UltikanaRe I notice that the area circled on your nation sheet doesn't exist on the map you gave. One of the two is out of date, you should probably fix that ^^

@Lord Santa happening on my side as well. Good catch.
I'll probably join in the morning, when I have time! My nations interest check kind of crash and burned so I might as well join this one

I think it's perfectly acceptable to just count page loads. Sure it's not going to be an exact tally, but obviously an interest check with 150 views is getting a lot more attention than one with 15 views. Not all 150 views will be repeat visits/search bots/bots in general. The idea is just to know if nobody likes the concept, or if nobody is bothering to check it out, which would be very useful to me personally, as a current interest check I have running has only one reply, and I have no clue whether people dislike the idea, or just haven't looked.

@LegendBegins Integrating an applet into html is trivial. But why would that be useful, or even necessary?

@Lillian Thorne If memory serves correctly, then no. It was just a suggestion that this thread's regulars are split more or less right down the middle on.

<Snipped quote by Captain Jordan>

I respectfully disagree. We're holding an evolving, intelligent argument with new reasons that have not been stated before. Thus we are further enlightened on the subject and we (or Mahz) can make a more informed decision.

I respectfully disagree. We are repeating the exact same arguments ("this is stupid and will create more work" "no, not doing this is stupid, and it will result in less work" etc) over and over again, without any compromise whatsoever – the only attempt at such seems to have been largely ignored. None of us will ever agree on which is better, and we can theorycraft (or circle jerk, in this case) which is better for millennia. Both sides have said everything that can possibly be said on the matter, and it really is time to just move on and let Mahz do as he sees fit.

I know I'm a bit late to this party, but frankly I think this argument is ridiculous.

It will not be a problem, especially with an opt in/out system. I have yet to see a gm evil enough to lock someone out for no reason, or even without plenty of warnings. If a gm wants to micromanage their rp, let them. If they want to be a troll to someone, which I truly don't understand why you think will be so common, let them - the mods can deal with it, and I guarantee it won't happen often enough to be a problem.

Perhaps an appeal system would work? If a gm doesn't provide any reason at all, a player can hit an appeal button, immediately overriding his blacklisting and alerting the mods to check it out. It'd have a large warning stating that to abuse this will be punished severely. The mods then check it out (perhaps put a field for the gm to state a reason (required) before being allowed for both the player and mods' benefit) and decide who is at fault. Either way it is blatant trolling, and can be punished as such (especially for the player if they appeal just for the luls). Perhaps even limit how many appeals one may have for life? Say, 3?

Lastly, restricting the ability to post cannot be compared to deletion of content. Allowing any person to delete someone's hard work is evil. Allowing someone to police their own "territory" to keep order and/or be a dictatorial idiot (and be punished as such) is a great idea. Removing someone won't happen often to begin with, and when it does I am very confident the reasoning will have been discussed beforehand (and warnings probably delivered as such). But as said above, perhaps it is best to just let Mahz decide himself, since we clearly won't be able to agree?
