EMPIRE OF FUSAN

Government and Economy
Type of Government: Single Party State. Military Dictatorship.
Head(s) of Government: Prime Minister Sato Sawajiro (Age 51)
Economy: Largely agricultural and horticultural economy due to lack of industry. 65% of Gross Domestic Product in 1904 was generated by fish and grain exports to other nations. Caste system within the societal construct has created an immense surplus of easy, cheap labor.

History, Demographics and Culture
Primary Species: Human.
Population: 104,000,000 (1905 census)
Culture: The Fusanese have, for generations, been a forced caste system. There are three castes: The House of the Fish, the House of the Shark and the House of the Squid. The Fish, the endless masses, are a 95% majority. They are the workers and peasants, toiling away under the Sawajiro Party. The House of the Shark are the former warrior clans turned military officers. They command great respect in political circles since the the Sawajiro Party took power in the 1898 Coup. The House of the Squid are the artisans and craftsmen, multi-talented, they are the inventors, writers, and creative think tanks. Before the coup the House of the Squid numbered over 5,000,000, but now number less than 1,000,000.

Religious and other Beliefs: State Sponsored Secularism. Possession of religious artifacts, or active worship of religion is a crime punishable by state execution.
History:
1898: The Sawajiro Party, led by Sato Sawajiro of the Empire's Army, leads a bloodless coup to remove Emperor Sotomi from the throne. Although deposed, the Emperor is a cherished political figure in Fusan.

1899: The Dreadnought Kato is launched, at 26,000 tonnes she is the largest ship of the Imperial Fusanese Navy. She is considered the pride of the IFN.

1901: The Imperial Fusanese Army begins it's outer conquest of the mostly uninhabited Colonial Islands, expanding it's territorial holdings by 4% and establishing minor naval and observation bases on those islands. This expansion would last until 1905.

1905: Submarine pens on the island of Hotu are finished, giving Fusan extended range for it's submarine fleet.

1910: Fusan signs a Mutual Defense Pact with the Socialist Republic of Polisiria, stating that they will defend one another if attacked. This pact will expire in 1915.

Geography, Agriculture and Industry
Territory: SEE MAP.
Climate: The Primary Islands are mostly grassland, with a few rocky crags along the northeastern approach. The further Colonial Islands, recently colonized and inhabited are similarly grassland, with untamed vegetation turning into thick and wanton jungle.
Cities, bases, etc:
-- Sato City: The capital, renamed after the Sawajiro Party under Sato Sawajiro took party in a bloodless military capital. It is home to over 21,000,000 people.
-- Kinshin Military Base: A military garrison located on Mako Island north of Fusan. It is home to the 1st Battle Fleet as well as the 7th Expeditionary Army that makes up 90,000 men.
-- Makitoko: A city of some great culture and renown. Home to 12,000,000. It is the largest, landlocked city of Fusan.
-- Suto: The greatest pity in the Southeast Archipelago, with a huge military harbor to accompany it. Home to over 9,000,000.
Agriculture: Agricultural exports make up an immense amount of Fusan's yearly GDP. Years of trading between the People's Republic of Polirisia and the Sandolonian People's Republic in exchange for materiel goods and machine parts has further incited growth in Fusanese farming.

Military
Military: The Imperial Fusanese Army (IFA) is the first and last line of defense for the Primary Islands of the Empire. As a heavily fascist nation with a required three year draft, the IFA handles over 1.2 million men at various levels of mobilization. The Imperial Fusanese Headquarters utilizes mass wave attacks, and thus prefers quantity to quality.

Alternatively, the Imperial Fusanese Navy (IFN) rules the waves around the Fusanese Primary Islands. The IFN currently numbers the following:

Fusanese Imperial Japanese Dreadnought Kato in 1908

7 Dreadnoughts
18 Heavy cruisers
25 Light cruisers
169 Destroyers
184 Submarines

HISTORICAL NOTE: Global map updated after the Imperial Expansion of 1901-1905, where Fusanese Army colonized various islands, inhabited by most aborigine natives who now fall under the Fusanese government's control.
Though I'm sure the OP/MOD will do it, here is an updated political map of nations that are complete or mostly complete. I just love maps, so I did it. Also included is a key.

Also, unless ISOTOPE is against it or has his own plans, I can also make a diplomatic version showing the various alliances/pacts, as well.

Known World, 1910
So the Socialist Republic of Polirisia and the Empire of Fusan have a trade agreement and a mutual defense pact that will expire in 1915.

If anyone else in the Southeast Archipelago would like to make up some history, let me (or us?) know. Looks like @Aristo will be in that area, as well.

Well since you're going to be dealing with thorgili and since I'm breaking away from them, maybe we could be mutual allies and maybe we had past dealings here and there.

You play the The Socialist Republic of Polirisia, right? That sounds excellent. The Fusanese would very much recognize Polirisia's independence and send a mutual defense treaty their way that would lost for five years until 1915. They would also send a trade agreement request.

<Snipped quote by Theodorable>

Well since my nation is just north of yours, there could be some interaction.

I'm game! Any ideas?

<Snipped quote by Theodorable>

I was thinking of joining and playing another Asian-esque nation, so maybe there'd be grounds for history that way.

Okay, what are you thinking?

<Snipped quote by Theodorable>

well seeing as how both our nations are obviously inspired by both russia and japan (me russia you japan obviously) perhaps we can have previous conflicts ala Russo-Japanese war.

I dig this! Your nation sheet up yet? Once it is, let's get some backstory worked up!
If anyone would like some history with the EMPIRE OF FUSAN, I'm game.
Whoops. Sorry.

I'm doing "Colonial Twilight," but I'm not a player. More of a GM. I'm down for this.
