Responsibility belongs not to the name stenciled on the mantel, but to the one who carries the mantle.

"Strike me down, and I'll not fight back; Threaten my brothers, and even death will not protect you from my wrath." -- Blackswordkirito I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Too simple as she says, pity the bastard is a liar and cheated us a clue, but I didn't expect any better from him. ... Completely unrelated topic, but it's bugging me. Roxy how does your collar keep you contained within the facility?
I look at Roxy while she answers, my eyes shifting out of focus as I listen. There were a lot of guards in the room, but if he could use a choke point he'd be able nullify that advantage... There wasn't any way to leave the group though, not with out drawing a great deal of suspicion from the others as well as the guards... maybe cloak would pitch in, just for fun... nah, he'd probably rather get on Vlad's good side. Roxy might try to help, but that wouldn't be worth much, the guards would have a way to neutralize her. Blue? Flip a coin, even odds, The little coward? he might sneak a blow or two in, just to "prove" he wasn't a coward, but that was all I could count on from him. Damn, that left the odds a tad long even for my tastes. I'd have to build a trap, I liked those, and was confident I could construct one, given a few days to work with. Do I have days to work with? Probably not, I'd have to make do, as usual.
Isa gave the newcomer a glance, and listened to his words and recognized the truth and the futility of the tone and body language that accompanied them. His voice dripping with sarcasm, he rebuffed the boy.
Thank you captain obvious.
I look to Blue, and remind her that the first "hint" had been the riddle Vlad had thrown at us.
The first hint was the riddle: What you seek is information that must be measured exactly to get the right results. Not that it actually qualifies as a hint in most dictionaries, but I doubt our dear Vlad cares about that.
Cin was grateful for the quick reply, and made a note to just use Tsu when addressing his friend. He smiled at that, he had friends. He'd never had those before. But this was a new world, a new life, a fresh start, truly cin vhetin. Cin sent a party request to Tsu, so they'd be able to see each other on their map. Then, seeing a mob a little ways off the path lurking behind a hedge, that the group had missed, he grinned, checked his health, and drank a potion to fill the bar before engaging the monster.
Thirty seconds and three potions later, Cin was glad he'd started this one at full health. He'd forgotten to check the mob's level and that had cost him a third of his health in a single hit. Still, Cin had fought on confident that he could best the monster. And he had, though he'd been in the red himself when he was done. Now he was back into the green but not quite full and out of potions to boot. He spotted Tsu coming towards him, and Waved excitedly, ready to share the joy of his latest experience, though he doubted he'd be challenging anything else three levels above him alone again, especially since they'd only be getting nastier from here on out. The loot box icon still hung before him, unopened, he wanted to wait for Tsu to see what he'd gotten.
What madness was this? We died for real if we died here? Seriously? Then... this was truly a gift, a life of his own choosing not one handed to him by fate... what a wondrous gift, and it was not just his, but belonged to the entire game population! Cin began laughing, a deep rolling laugh. People started looking at him very strangely indeed as the laughter continued. This tragedy was a dream come true for Cin Vhetin, even his screen name implied it. It meant fresh start, clean slate, in a the language of a nomadic warrior culture. And he finally had it, at last no one would judge him for his father's failures, or his sister's shameful decisions, none of that mattered anymore, no one knew any of that here, and he was free at last from his haunting past. The relief, the hope, was enough to keep laughing and crying for several minutes. When he finally got a hold of himself, he heard someone call him a sick bastard, but for once it didn't bother him. He decided that he would finally become the man he'd always wanted to be, Cin Vhetin, and he'd start today.
Cin made his way out of town quickly, finding a few week mobs on his way down the road, he decided to test his skills. He donned his armor, a simple cap and breast plate, in addition to the pauldron he'd been wearing all day. He needed to get some good boots next. He loved his weapon, a Halberd fashioned after ancient European weapons once used to fight for territory and guard treasures. He hefted it, relishing it's weight, and charged the nearest enemy, yelling a challenge and swinging the halberd up and over his head, slamming it down onto his target. He watched with joy as the health bar depleted, but was dismayed to see the creature survived the hit. He dove left, rolling around the haft of his weapon, before rising to his feet and heaving a back stroke into the passing monster. With squeal of pain the creature died, leaving Cin panting but elated.
He looked at the loot dropped, and saw there wasn't much of any use to him, but he could sell it at the next town for some cash so it wasn't worthless. He looked around and spotted a new challenge and attacked it. He didn't pay any heed to the group charging up the path. They roamed about killing everything in their path. He was fighting a third mob, when the group got to him, and one of them shoved him into the dirt, slaying the mob himself, before moving on laughing. Cin stood up and brushed himself off, glaring at the boy, but not stupid enough to fight an entire group all by himself. He regretted not taking time to find a partner to two to help him along. But counted his blessings that this group had only wanted the loot and experience from the mobs. He could have been killed on the first day, and then his gift would have been wasted. He'd have to be more careful in the future. He checked his list of friends, all three of them. Two had already joined a guild, but one was still free lance like himself, he decided to send him a quick message, asking to group up and giving his current location.
"Hey TsuMeTai, it's Cin, we killed some wolves earlier today, remember? I was wondering if you'd be interested in working together, I know we can beat this game, but it'll take some team work, so you up for it?
Isa gave the nearest speaker a finger, he hadn't been waiting, he'd been working, and gotten quite a bit done or being surrounded by a group of complete strangers. He looked around the room, measuring the guards one at a time, and debating causing a scene by taking a few out of the picture. Measured... "What you seek is information that must be measured exactly to get the right results." Wait, we were supposed to be seeking information, and we couldn't do that by sitting around talking amongst ourselves, unless one of us held the answer to the riddle, and didn't know it.
We seek information that must be measured exactly, only then will we achieve success. Well, let's start looking for information then. Should we pair off? Survival rate increases dramatically with a second to watch one's back, at least it does in the wilds, not sure if it does anything here...

I imagined it being like that, otherwise nobody would take their time to even do crafting or gathering of any kind.
Not necessarily true, remember the mobs were getting farmed pretty hard by all the good players, those with less skill might turn to crafting simply to have something to do with their time.
