There's a panhandler who hangs out on the street corner by our dispensary every afternoon with a sign that just says "Green 4 Green?" and tbh, I respect my boy's confidence.

Crow discovered the dude problem of horseback riding lmao
“Alright,” Crow nodded when Penelope told him to be ready. Deciding he would probably need both hands to hold onto her when they started moving, he tightened the strap of the quiver on his back and slipped the staff underneath it so it laid securely against his shoulders without sliding around. It was also a good place to keep it since it would be hard for Penelope to touch it accidentally as long as he was sitting behind her.

As they started moving for the door to the stable, he slid his arms around her waist and smiled to himself, enjoying the feeling of being so close to her again. He had a feeling he was going to like horseback riding if it was like this for the rest of the trip. He could hold onto her in front of William without giving away their relationship to the older knight. It was nice to have a little more freedom than he was expecting to have with Penelope’s stoic comrade around.

He flinched when the stable boy called out to them, following Penelope’s command by wrapping his arms tightly around her middle so that his chest was pressed against her back. He held onto her as she brought her horse to a gallop, focusing on not falling off until they were far enough away that she could slow down again.

“Well, galloping is… unpleasant, if you know what I mean,” he answered her question with a wince, shifting slightly in the saddle. “But I like it when we’re just moving along like this.” He leaned around her shoulder to look ahead. “It’s a good vantage point for spotting enemies. If we run into any, I can even try to use my bow. I still have henbane on the arrows.”
Crow threw William off xD

Aww poor Penelope. That makes sense for her ^^
“Thanks,” Crow grinned when Penelope complimented his choice of the horses. He honestly didn’t know what he was had been looking for when he had gone down the line of stalls, but the black stallion had stuck out to him because of its dark coloration. He had always been drawn to that trait because of how it blended in with the night. It was an important quality to have when trying to stay out of the sight of guard patrols. He was glad that this one looked like a good choice to Penelope too.

He stood back and watched as she prepared the animal to be ridden, throwing a blanket of sorts over its back before strapping on its saddle and putting the reins on its head. It was interesting to see all of the parts and pieces one needed to control the massive beast. He wondered which things did what when it came to directing it or telling it to move faster or slower. He had never paid close enough attention to knights of the cavalry to see how they guided their horses.

When she told him to watch her get on, he nodded and observed her carefully, watching the way she swung her leg over the horse’s back and positioned herself in the saddle. Once she was ready, he moved to climb on after her, but William spoke up from the other side of the stable.

“Why don’t you ride your own steed, thief?” he stared down at Crow from the back of a gray mare with accusatory eyes.

“I’m flattered that you think a peasant like me would be educated enough to ride a horse,” Crow rolled his eyes. “But unfortunately, I wasn’t so blessed.”

William hesitated, his eyes flitting between Crow and Penelope as if he wasn’t fond of the idea of them riding together. The thief guessed he didn’t think it very wholesome for a male criminal to sit so close to a female knight. No matter, he thought slyly. I know how to make him back off. “Would you prefer I ride with you?” Crow suggested with a wink. “I promise I’ll hold on tight.”

The knight blinked, taken aback by the thief’s sordid words. He cleared his throat awkwardly as he tried to recover from his initial surprise and shot him a glare. “Fine. If you can’t ride by yourself, then you’ll have to join Penelope. Just hurry up.”

“Yes, sir,” Crow gave him a lazy salute and took Penelope’s hand. He put his foot in the stirrup as he had seen her do and, in one swift motion, threw his weight up and over the back of the horse until he was sitting behind her. Looking at the ground far below, he let out a short whistle, “This is pretty neat.” He glanced at Penelope and smirked, lowering his voice to a whisper, “Great view, too.”
Tbh I don't think they're gonna last long xD
Maybe 2-3 more days if they're lucky

Also, just because it's interesting, what would Penelope's love language(s) be?
I know Crow's are most definitely physical touch and words of affirmation
He likes kissing and having his ego stroked xD
Crow found William’s discomfort with stealing to be quite amusing. It seemed like the haughty knight’s pride was taking a bit of a hit from the knowledge that his comrade knew a bit about stealing. The spiteful side of him hoped that they would need to resort to more thievery and other lawlessness just because it might take William’s pride down a peg or two. Maybe then he would be more pleasant to be around—or the thief could use it as leverage the next time the knight tried to lord his ‘justice’ over him. He smiled to himself. Either way, he was going to enjoy this.

After the stable boy had gone, Crow followed the two knights as they snuck into the stable. He couldn’t help but feel a wave of pride for Penelope. She seemed to have picked up quite a bit from him during the course of their travels, even to the point where he felt content to sit back and let her take the lead on this one. At the rate she’s improving, she would make a talented thief, he thought with a pleased smile. Maybe I can teach her more when we get back—if she chooses to come with me, that is. His smile faltered slightly as he recalled that they might not still be together by then, and he quickly pushed the disheartening thought aside.

Now inside of the stable, Crow walked along the row of horses, eyeing the animals curiously. He had stolen a lot of things in his lifetime, but living animals weren’t on the list. It wasn’t because he never had the opportunity, but rather because he never had a need to take them. Besides, it was far more convenient to steal something that didn’t need to be fed and couldn’t run away. He turned to the knights expectantly, “Do we just take the horses, or do we need anything else?”

William grunted and crossed his arms, still upset about the situation, “So, there is something you don’t know how to steal.”

“This may be a little outside of my field of expertise,” Crow admitted. “But I’m perfectly capable of learning.” His expression changed suddenly as he took on a mischievous smirk. “Think of it as an honor. You get to teach me how to steal a horse.”

William grimaced at the thought and turned to Penelope, “Are you sure you can’t think of any other way to lose the Younisians?” He glanced back at the thief, who was now eyeing a black stallion with interest, ignoring the knights’ conversation. “Anything at all?”
I think it would be kind of fun if he figured it out by catching them kissing x3

Crow is just excited to be able to be so close to Penelope again lol
Crow felt slightly bad for throwing off Penelope’s plan, especially since she had seemed so proud of her idea, but it was better for her to know about his inability to ride horses now rather than find out when he would inevitably try and fail later. At least this way, if they moved forward with the plan, she would be prepared for such a situation to arise.

He glanced off to the side as she tried to come up with another way to get ahead of the Younisian knights. He knew she wasn’t intending to make him feel awkward about it, but he didn’t like being the reason why they couldn’t use the horses to get back to Brerra sooner. It wasn’t his fault that he never had the opportunity to learn horseback riding. After all, that was something nobles learned that most peasants didn’t have time for even if they owned farm horses. In fact, he couldn’t think of anyone he had met in the outer villages who knew such a skill.

When Penelope spoke up again, he met her gaze with newfound interest. He didn’t know horses could carry more than one person at a time. It would be nice to be so close again, he mused, imagining what it would be like to sit next to her during the ride home. “I like the sound of that,” he lowered his voice coquettishly, brushing his hand against hers as they walked. “As long as I can hold onto you instead of the horse, that is.”

After a while of walking, a noble estate became visible through the trees. Crow glanced down at Penelope and grinned, “I’d bet you anything they have a stable.”
I might be a little too excited for his reaction to finding out about Crow and Penelope's relationship
Crow walked beside Penelope as William began to lead them through the woods again. He glanced at her and broke out in a grin when she whispered to him. “It must be because I’m so charismatic,” he teased quietly. “Maybe, if we’re lucky, I can get William to come around too. It would be nice to take some souvenirs home from this trip.” He nudged her and winked wryly.

As she went on to talk about how the horses would help them move faster, his smile faded slightly. Not knowing what the future held for them, he didn’t share in her optimism of getting back to Brerra. He knew she had said she would stay with him, even if it meant disregarding her status and family, but would she still feel the same way when she returned to it all? He didn’t want to get his hopes up that she would sacrifice so much for him.

At least I’ll be home soon, he thought with a pang of relief. It had been so long since he had last been a free man. Regardless of what was to happen between him and Penelope, he still felt excited about the prospect of going back to the outer villages. He missed the peacefulness and simplicity of peasant life. It would be good to come home to it all.

“Speaking of that,” Crow met her gaze with a bashful smile. “It might be pertinent for you to know that I have no idea how to ride a horse.”
