There's a panhandler who hangs out on the street corner by our dispensary every afternoon with a sign that just says "Green 4 Green?" and tbh, I respect my boy's confidence.

Hobbies: Writing, fitness, driving/exploring, hiking, camping, traveling, tabletop games, anything NEW (I love trying things I've never done before)
Roleplayer Profile

Format: 1x1s only. Maybe I'll try a group RP again someday, but I've never had one last longer than a few months
Posting Speed: Depending on my schedule, I can usually post at least once per week
Favorite Genres: Modern, Historical, Romance, Action/Adventure, Horror/Dark, Fantasy, Slice of Life, Dystopian, can be convinced to write some Sci-Fi
Hard 'no's: Fandoms. Sorry, but I can't maintain interest in characters/worlds I didn't build with my partner

Romantic Relationships: MxF or MxM (currently prefer MxM)
Character Images: Faceclaims or detailed descriptions only. I envision the characters like real people in my mind, so I can't take anime seriously
OOC chat: Yes please! I'm a total extrovert who loves to get to know the amazing minds behind my partners' characters

Vail nodded absently when Victoria pointed out the detail of the drawings. It was apparent that they hadn’t been crafted at the hand of an amateur. “Most likely a vampire,” he said thoughtfully in answer to her question. “From what I’ve been told, my ancestors were always secretive, and this book contains extremely detailed records of family trees. I can’t imagine how a human would have been able to get his hands on any of this information.” He also couldn’t think of any humans who would have bothered to learn about them in the first place. Aside from Lady Crest, every human he’d crossed paths with had either been terrified of vampires or thought they were better off dead. It was one of the reasons why he’d thought she was special when they had begun to get to know each other.

At her next observation, he knitted his brows together, perplexed. It could have just been an error on the part of the artist, but every other picture had been drawn so painstakingly that it seemed unlikely. He traced his fingers over the image, wondering why the author had considered that detail important enough to depict. Most vampires drained their victims to death, so it seemed strange to him that they had gone out of their way to highlight that part of the feed. Unless a human has to be killed to be turned, he shifted his weight, suddenly apprehensive to read the ritual. They had come this far, though, so he cleared his throat.

“Our numbers are unsustainable,” he started, speaking slowly as he translated the Romanian script. Now he was certain the author had been a vampire. “There are humans who have learned how to kill us, and we do not repopulate quickly enough to survive the loses. However, Traian Aurel Sadoveanu has discovered a solution to this threat. There is a way by which we can turn mortal into immortal with the Bite, adopting humans into our community to survive our enemies and add strength and diversity to our bloodlines.

“It is perhaps a boon to us that the ritual does not stray far from the feed that we are inclined by instinct to partake in during the nights. Upon writing this account, I have successfully turned three humans, all of whom have become beloved members of my family. When I first encountered them, though, each one had been my prey. I hunted them the same way I hunt every man or woman whose blood entices my senses, but for these unique individuals, I offered hope before they died.

“What Sadoveanu realized, and what we have all come to accept as our saving grace, is that a human who drinks but a drop of a vampire’s blood in the minutes before his own blood is drained entirely may be reborn with that vampire’s blood coursing through his veins.” He paused, finally understanding the accompanying image. It was an intriguing concept. He continued reading: “If one decides to give this gift to his victim, he must then take the body to a secure location, as the transformation process can take up to a week to complete. Until the fledgling’s heart begins to beat again, he is vulnerable to those humans who would run silver through it to prevent him from waking.

“After the week of turning has passed, the fledgling will open his eyes as a vampire if he was among the fortunate half of humans whose bodies would accept their predator’s blood—wait, half?” Vail faltered, startled that the success rate for the ritual was so low. “‘If, after seven days the human remains unresponsive, dispose of the corpse…’ That doesn’t sound promising.” He leaned into Victoria’s side involuntarily, unsure what to think about the discouraging information. As much as he wanted to rescue her from the Wynters and be with her forever, knowing that every other human who was turned in this manner died made him reluctant to try it at all.

That's what I was thinking too. There's a creature called a Wendigo that eats human flesh, so he could have been one of those. I'm also fine with deciding on a race later

Okay! And I also just had a thought that we could even include some minor conflicts with infamous serial killers. It could be interesting to throw Jack the Ripper into this, with a twist that he wasn't actually human or something like that.

All of that sounds good to me. If we do a year long time skip, how/where are you thinking we should pick it back up? And would we still have her be turned the same way as we planned (injured in the fight against the Wynters; Vail turns her to save her)?

I also enjoy having a main conflict/antagonist to keep things interesting, so do you have any ideas for something like that when we move forward? I was thinking the feud with the Wynters could escalate somehow, since I can't imagine that they would give up after their plan to use Victoria is foiled. That, and/or maybe a new threat could rise up, maybe a power-hungry clan from the European mainland? Just some ideas to consider ^^
Can't wait to see what shenanigans go down this time, haha. Things always seem to get out of hand when our characters start drinking cx
Crow sighed quietly in exasperation when Naida interrogated them about their trip two years ago. If anyone else had asked, he would have assumed it was an innocent question, but knowing his sister, he was sure she was just trying to dig up evidence that they had been romantically involved in the past. Continuously dodging her prodding was exhausting, and he hoped she would forget the subject once she’d had a few drinks at the tavern. Maybe then, they could finally let their guards down a little and relax.

He nodded idly in agreement as Penelope brushed off the princess’s inquiry. Technically it was true that they had spent the whole journey on a mission to retrieve the staff, give or take a few detours and distractions along the way. A smile pulled faintly at his lip as he thought about the day they had confessed their feelings for each other and how much better the rest of the assignment had been after that. Everything had happened so fast, but it was the intensity of it all that had drawn them together like a moth to a flame. Overall, he looked back on the memories with fondness, even though there had been a few hiccups that hadn’t been so pleasant.

“That, and we were separated from him for a while, remember?” he pointed out, casting her an amused grin. “He missed out on the time when we almost died fighting that mercenary, and the time when we almost died raiding the castle. I think near death experiences really draw people together. He didn’t even start to tolerate me until I took that dagger for him the second time were we attacked by mercenaries.”

“Sounds like it was quite the mission,” Naida whistled, staring back at them incredulously before she let out an exaggerated sigh. “I wish I could go on an adventure like that, but father is too strict. He only lets me take up jobs in the inner kingdom… If I’m lucky, I’ll get to run an errand in the cities to the north of Aria.”

“Maybe I can put in a good word for you when he sends me out of the kingdom,” Crow offered, understanding his sister’s disappointment. Staying in the citadel all the time would have driven him stir crazy too. “I’m just going to talk, so it shouldn’t be dangerous. He might let you come with me.”

“That would be great!” Naida perked up, beaming broadly. “Thanks, Collin.”

“You’re welcome,” he drew his cloak a little closer as a shiver ran up his spine from a cold draft.

The princess turned around to look ahead again and then spun back around excitedly. “We’re almost here. The tavern is just up ahead!”
Perfect. Now I've just gotta write it out in a PM for myself or something, so I don't forget my plans xD
Crow glanced down the hall as Penelope approached, breaking off the casual conversation he’d been having with Naida while they had been waiting. With everyone ready to go, they headed through the large doors into the palace courtyard. The air was just as chilly as it had been the last time the viceroy had been outside, if not a little more so, and the snow had begun to fall more thickly around them. He drew his hood over his head and buried his hands beneath his cloak to keep dry, unsure how long they would be walking in the quiet storm before they reached the sanctuary of the tavern.

When the knight fell in step beside him, he glanced down at her with an amused smile. “It’ll be nice to visit one without any responsibilities for once,” he mused, his breath fogging as he spoke. “I think I’m going to like this a lot better.”

“Wait, what do you mean you interrogated drunks?” Naida peered back over her shoulder with a curious expression, eavesdropping on her friends. “And why would you do that in the first place?”

“I was helping Penelope and her battalion track down a band of thieves,” Crow replied. “Sometimes you can learn a lot from men and women who’ve lost their inhibitions.”

“Oh yeah, Penelope mentioned something about that to me before,” the princess recalled. Her lip curled upward in a puckish smirk. “Sounds like you two make a good team.”

“When our interests line up, I’d have to agree,” Crow lifted his shoulders, nonchalantly brushing off his sister’s insinuation. He turned back to the knight with another smile, “It also helped that we’d worked together once before in Younis. I wouldn’t have trusted her otherwise.”
Maybe a little xD

Okay! Sounds good to me. I also don't mind skipping over the whole trip back from Younis, since everything I've got planned right now happens before they get there and during the stay. I'll let you know if that changes though!
“At least I can be sure that it’ll be interesting,” Crow laughed when Penelope said that they would be going to a tavern Olivia approved of. It did sound promising though. Even though he preferred to stay sober, he’d always enjoyed spending some nights out with the other villagers on the border. The rowdiest taverns had been his favorites too, since the people who showed up were usually friendly and adventurous. It had felt good to spend a few evenings forgetting about the stresses of life to drink, dance, gamble, or do whatever else was popular that night. He didn’t know what to expect at a tavern meant for the upper class, but he was hopeful that he would have fun with Penelope and Naida regardless of what anyone else was doing.

Finishing up the rest of the food on his plate, he nodded when the knight announced that she needed to pick up a cloak before she joined them. “See you there,” he said, swallowing his last bite.

Naida offered a few parting words as well and then turned to her half-brother, “Want to go wait for her by the door?”

“Sure,” Crow stood up and slid his cloak over his shoulders. The fabric still felt too warm to wear indoors but, knowing how cold it would be once they stepped outside, he didn’t mind building up a little more insulation before they left the castle walls. He glanced at Percival, who had also risen to his feet, “I’ll see you around.”

The knight dipped his head politely, “Be careful.”

“You don’t have to worry about me,” Crow grinned, finding his advice amusing. “I’m not the type to go stumbling home after a night out.”

“What’s the fun in that?” Naida rolled her eyes, giving his wrist a tug as they began walking toward the door.

“Someone has to keep an eye on you, so you don’t cause too much trouble,” he teased, shooting her a wry smirk.

“This coming from the former criminal who caused so much trouble he landed himself behind bars,” she quipped back.

“Harsh,” Crow gave her arm a shove, though a good-humored smile played on his lip.

The two siblings continued bantering amongst each other until they reached the main entrance of the castle, where they stopped to wait for Penelope to catch up with them before they would all brave the snow together.
