USS Audacia: Firefly-esque Space Travels!

Was thinking of a biotech/nanotech mercenary and ex-super soldier as the crew's muscle. Is this acceptable or not within the lore? What are the limits of nanotechnology and bioaugmentation in this universe?

Okay, I'm gonna have to pull out. Every power I wanted to use has been taken more or less and I'm running out of ideas, both for characters and other powers. Sorry.

Also, I explained in the drawbacks why it's nowhere as convenient as it first looks (not that I'm implying you didn't read it or anything). Her ability to interact with her surroundings when traveling at light speed is incredibly minimal due to being massless, and her abilities are practically useless for offense unless she feels like dropping herself from somewhere high up when she's super dense, which is both easily avoidable and likely to send her crashing down through the mantle like a bullet. Her super durability can be maintained for like five seconds at most before she needs a few minutes to a few hours to let her heart recover from being stopped for so long, and objects are only weightless when she's carrying them, meaning it's great for stealing stuff (which is what she does), but not so great for anything else.

Basically when she's confronted with adversity her only real option is to book it. Great for stealing stuff, not so great for superbrawls.

Power: Higgs Field manipulation
Description: Amy's power allows her to directly manipulate the background Higgs Field that exists throughout the universe, giving particles mass. As such, she can selectively modulate and turn mass "on and off" for herself and any objects she's in direct contact with. This allows her to become completely massless and move at the speed of light or become incredibly dense and heavy and survive superhuman amounts of damage (imagine punching something as heavy as a mountain except in human form). It also affords her the illusion of super strength as she dials back the mass of something like a statue or a car to the point where it can be lifted and tossed effortlessly. Thanks to her power, the details of which are unknown by most, she's garnered a reputation as a powerful example of the stereotypical "flying brick".
Limits: She has to be touching the object whose mass she wishes to affect.
Weaknesses/Drawbacks: Most of her reputation is founded on misunderstanding and misinformation, as she actually has none of the powers attributed to her and her combat effectiveness is basically limited entirely to defense and running away. Using Higgs manipulation to become massless and move at the speed of light sounds formidable, but when she's in this state, or any state of decreased mass, her punches become correspondingly weaker as her overall kinetic energy decreases with her mass. At lightspeed, she hits like a light breeze. Similarly, since her super strength is also only an illusion, she can't actually move when she becomes super dense and heavy because her muscles can't produce enough energy to move her and she's likely to fall through the floor due to her increased weight (her heart will even stop functioning temporarily due to this effect, meaning her heavy mass state has a very limited timeframe of effectiveness). Even her ability to make heavy objects light, which sounds like a great way to throw cars at people, isn't combat-effective, because as soon as the object leaves her hands it regains all its mass and retains the same amount of force imparted on it originally (read: very little) and quickly drops like a rock. Taking all this into account, her only real option in a fight is to run or take the hits and hope her heart doesn't give out.

I'm interested, but I don't know if I'm in necessarily. Me and superhero RPs have had a rough patch, and the last character I came up with that I'd still like to use was originally from a failed Worm RP, so I don't know how well that'd fit in here.

Okay, it looks like I dodged a rather large bullet with my schoolwork, so this won't need to be postponed after all. Okay, where to start... I was sick during spring break while I was away in Mexico and bedridden for much of the time, the rest of the time I either spent with my family doing vacation things or writing a paper due for my senior seminar over spring break. Now I'm back in school, still sick, and it's looking like I'm going to have a shovelful of shit piled on my plate for the foreseeable future, so... that's why there's still no OOC. Depending on how things work out in the next few days/weeks, this might be put on hold until the summer.

It's coming... just really slowly. I've had a lot to do this week. Two midterms, vacation planning, cleaning up the house... Needless to say finding time to rewrite the OOC after my dad deleted it is proving difficult. Once I'm on the plane and out of the country though, I shouldn't have any obligations preventing me from finishing it. My hotel should have wifi, so expect the OOC sometime in the next week.
