I added the following to the Lore pages, just to make it easier for newcomers.

Writing Protocols and Templates

This is going to be the simple step by step process for how to get into this RP setting.

1) Read the lore and articles herein.
2) Create a character sheet using the template provided, and submit it to the OOC or to me via PM.
3) If approved, move character sheet to Character Sheet section.
4) Find a/some writing partner(s) from the other approved characters or from myself as GM.
5) Decide if you want to make a casual or advanced story.
6) One of you create the story in the appropriate RP section as agreed, include the timestamp from the templates.
7) Add the URL for the newly created story to your CS.
8) You and your partners write your story, remembering to keep your skills within their levels as shown in your CS.
9) Upon completing your story(ies), submit the URL(s) to me for a Reward Review via PM or OOC.
10) I will post the Skill points earned, items/money earned, and anything else appropriate in a single post at the end of the story.
11) Update your CS with these additions.
12) Rinse and repeat from Step 4 onward.

Escape the Tempest[Closed]

Logan followed after the woman, Emma now that he knew her name, a slight nod to the other. He found himself wondering just how many people had sought shelter here from the storm. After all, roaming around that forest near or after sunset was dangerous and stupid, even for him, and everyone knew that. He had assumed his was just the rarity of a foolish man helping an even more foolish woman. But life always had a funny way of beating the odds.

As Emma moved to open a door, hopefully to access the outdoors, yet another woman's voice interrupted their crusade. It seemed to be turning into an embarrassment of riches for Logan. His charming smile having never faded, he found himself, once more, turning and looking at the newcomer. The way she spoke, initially at least, as well as her garb, suggested some sort of employee within the house. The moment she said that the door led to the Mistress' Wing, he realized her need for insistence over politeness. Still, was a simple greeting and howdya do, too much to ask? Emma probably looked the least lady-like of the bunch and yet had shown more character and politeness than the two others combined. Perhaps this house was just full of scatterbrained, heavily focused women, with no concern for the finer, slower things in life.

"Apologies miss, and good mornin'. We had no intentions of purposefully breakin' the rules of the house, merely got turned round lookin' for some..." he paused and widened his grin, "Fresh air. Could you perhaps show us to the front door? We'll be along to breakfast shortly after, you have mah word. And the word of Logan Shropshire always holds true. Especially for the women ah give it to."

He hoped they could be done with this business, and get on with it without further interruption. Chores needed done, a cigarette needed smoked, and a pretty woman needed chatted up. Food sounded more and more alluring, but he had his word to Emma to keep, among other reasons.

The basic writeup for Ebonfort (the capital city) is now up and posted. As usual I'm posting here for review and feedback. This includes the city appearance, laws, and military structure. I will add more later.

Appearance

Ebonfort is a great, dark bastion tucked in next to the Ruby River, that flows down from the Idigia Mountains. In the time of magic, it was one of the largest cities, and now holds the title of largest. Its massive walls and dark stone often give visitors and enemies alike feelings of dread and doom, especially when the morning and evening fogs roll in. The walls are four stories high, in an even square around the city. There are four highly defensible gate houses in the center of each wall, with towers dotted along the way to the corners that end in guard houses.

Within the walls itself is a dark hued paradise. Being the capital of the region, Ebonfort takes pride in keeping their city relatively crime-free, clean, and beautiful. Nearly all buildings are some shade of the darker stone, and are as strong as they are practical. This is intentional, for Ebonfort has always been first and foremost a defensive stronghold.

The four main roads go straight from the gatehouses toward the Ebonfort Citadel. The Citadel is the headquarters for the Ebon Knights, and is the final defensive measure in the city. It is large enough, and stocked, to provide sanctuary for all the citizens of Ebonfort and the outlying villages for several years.

The roads that converge upon the Citadel split the city into four even quarters. Going clockwise from the northwest corner, they are named Gladio Quarter, Armum Quarter, Sophium Quarter, and Corcillus Quarter. Each Quarter is equal in size, and for the most part, in purpose. They all have varying businesses, homes, and services. The main streets that split them are built of massive stone blocks, maintained by the city's engineers, along with the water conduits below, fed by the Ruby River.

Ebonfort Laws

The Ebon Knights are quite proud of their city, and have large maps of both the city and the region posted within their Gatehouses for all visitors, and residents, to see upon entry and exit. Next to these maps are the city's laws that all are expected to follow.

1. All people are expected to maintain civility and courtesy within the walls of Ebonfort and within the boundaries of her villages.
2. Proper respect is to be paid to all Ebon Knights, regardless of rank.
3. Dueling is allowed outside the walls of Ebonfort and outside the boundaries of her villages.
4. Stealing, rape, and murder are forbidden on all lands.
5. No building, outdoor adornment, or any other such feature may not hinder the defense of the city.
6. Bearing false witness to a crime will result in the punishment of that crime being deferred to the accuser.
7. Any civil disputes that disturb the peace within Ebonfort and her villages will be handled through a monitored duel, overseen by the Ebon Knights.
8. Any citizen has the right to trial by combat for any crime committed.
9. A pregnant woman cannot be tried for her crime until the child is born, and will remain under house arrest until such time.
10. All homeless adults and children will be enlisted into the service of the Ebon Knights.
11. Harboring, association, and fraternizing with Screamers is forbidden.
12. Upon reaching their 16th year, children are considered adults. By their 17th year, they are expected to provide a useful employment for Ebonfort and her villages, be studying under someone employed for Ebonfort and her villages, or enlist into the Ebon Knights.

Military

The Ebon Knights are both the military and police force of Ebonfort and her villages. They are the largest employer of citizens, and are the sole reason the city still stands to this day. Their laws and rule are absolute, and are well loved by the citizens they protect.

All promotions are merit based, which is earned through excursions and defenses against the Screamers and magical beasts that threaten the safety of the lands and citizens. All children entered into the Ebon Knights below the age of 14 are Pages until they come of age. Pages serve under individual Knights and assist them with anything they might need. Any child in the service between 14 and 16, as well as all new enlisting soldiers become Squires. You must serve a minimum of 2 years as a Squire in order to become a Knight unless you've passed the Knight's Tournament and received a recommendation from a Lieutenant Knight or higher rank. During the Squire's 2 years, they are to be trained in combat and tactics by their Patron Knight.

The military is overseen by 5 Lord Knights, one who rules over the Citadel, and the other 4 ruling over their respective Quarters.

Song Weaving is now live and posted in the Magicks section. I'm posting it here as well for you all to review, provide feedback, etc. Special thanks to Rekaigan for developing this magic.

Song Weaving

Learning

There are a few ways to learn Song Weaving. The first, like many other skills, is to learn from an Artisan+ rank Song Weaver. To learn this skill, though any means, a person must have Musical aptitude. If they are tone deaf, unable to sing or play an instrument, they will not be able to learn Song Weaving.

The second way to learn Song Weaving is through self-discovery. The most common method of this occurs after years of passionate, musical play. Eventually the Song Weavers emotions and desires will spill forth, bringing their magic into their music. Attempting to learn Song Weaving solely for the sake of learning it, without true musical passion, will always result in failure.

Song Weaving can often go unnoticed for long periods of time within the Song Weaver. Nearly all Song Weavers will go through this passive period for a while, before finally realizing the magic they have. In this passive nature, it will only utilize the most basic functions of Influence. This will use so little life force, that the magical drain is often unnoticed.

Forming

Song Weaving is primarily a form of hypnotic magic, where the Song Weavers intents and emotions are applied to the music they play. Their magic is fully embedded into the sounds they produce, by voice or instrument. It does not matter what instrument a Song Weaver might use, so long as they are proficient enough to use it in order to magically convert their desires into song. This is called Influence.

Influence

Influence is the first stage of Song Weaving learned, and can often go unnoticed by the Song Weaver. Their magic translates intent, desires, suggestions, and commands onto those that hear their music. This can be used to soothe pain, calm angry people, or animals, or even convince someone to pay more in tips. When Influence is used over a group of people, the magic is spread thin, so the results are not always guaranteed, with weaker willed people always being affected before those with a stronger will. The fewer listeners there are, the stronger the magic will be. Influence uses very little magical force, but more can be purposefully pushed into it for stronger, more immediate effects.

Impact

Impact is the ability to turn music, and sound in general, into a physical manifestation. This can allow the Song Weaver to shape the sounds, and control them for physical results. This can be as simple as making a Sharp Impact in order to stab an attacker, a large, blunt Impact to stop an arrow from hitting you, or a long, narrow Impact in order to trip a person's feet. This is not limited to their singing or instrument playing, but rather any sound they produce. However, the more practiced the sound, the more control over it they will exert. Impact is very magic intensive, and even short term use can drain a Song Weaver quickly.

Side Effects and Dangers

As with all Magicks, Song Weaving has varying, negative side effects and dangers. All magic is addictive, and can often lead mages to using far too much magic. Doing so can cause anything from overexertion, to passing out, to loss of magic temporarily or permanently, to death.

Song Weaving requires a lot of focus and concentration in active form. If this concentration is broken or waivers, the Song Weaver can find their listeners under unintended Influence, or even put themselves under the Influence. This can lead to conflicts within the listeners', and Song Weaver's, minds and lead to depression, insanity, and suicidal thoughts. These effects can be reversed by a Master+ ranked Song Weaver, or by allowing enough time for the Influence to fade.

Progression Summary

Novice - Most Novices won't even realize that they are Song Weavers. They can Influence small groups of people, typically only able to exert the emotion they are currently feeling onto the listeners. On an individual, their Influence can last for a day, and is split as more listeners hear the music.

Journeyman - It is at this rank that most Song Weavers realize that they have magic. They can actively control the intent, desire, and even offer suggestions to the listeners through their music. The emotions they convey are no longer limited to what they are feeling at the time, though those are made stronger. On an individual, their Influence can last for up to 5 days, and is split as more listeners hear the music.

Artisan - Song Weavers can now use Impact. Their Influence is much stronger at this stage, and can have multiple intentions, suggestions, desires, and even commands. They are no longer limited to voice or instruments to manipulate sound, but the sound they do manipulate must be created by them. This can be in the form of snapping fingers, and a hand clap, etc. On an individual, their Influence can last for up to 10 days, and is split as more listeners hear the music. Their impact can be roughly the size of a sword. They can teach Artisans of other disciplines.

Master - Song Weavers now have full command over sounds, so long as they can hear them, whether created by themselves or others. On an individual, their influence can last for up to a month, and is no longer split among listeners. Their Impact can be roughly the size of a human child. They can teach anyone.

Grand Master - Grand Masters have full command over sounds, so long as they can hear them, whether created by themselves or others. On an individual, their influence can last for up to a year, and is not split among listeners. Their Impact can be roughly the size of a human adult. They can teach anyone.
