I think the problem people have with nation rping is that so many people turn it into one-dimensional power grabs. It's way too common to find NRP's that involve nations headed by one character, with storylines that sound like somebody describing their playthrough of an RTS game with the cheat codes on. And you can always mark the shitty ones based on unnecessarily overpowered weapons. You could almost create a scale based on that. Count the number of aircraft carriers (or their equivalent), and then divide that by the number of named characters. If you get a whole number, you have a shitty rp, and the bigger that number the shittier the rp is.

But that definitely is not all that NRP's can be. Like BlackBishop said, an NRP setting means everyone has a degree of control over their settings that most RP's don't allow, so that the interaction is on a macro-scale and you can tell large-scale, complete stories with quite a bit of ease. It is my favorite type by far.
A long long time ago, when I worked at an amusement park, there was a line for the bathrooms closest to the kiddie section of the park and I was stationed at a customer service kiosk in the same building. One woman had the audacity to, right in the middle of the line, get pissed at me for allowing a bunch of adults to use the restrooms because that meant her children had to wait. It was so dumb that I just smiled and nodded, and she kept going. By the time she left, everybody in the building hated her, and I even had another woman walk over and shake my hand.

Same job, I used to gauge whether or not I would actually take complaints based on whether or not I agreed with them. Employee shitty with safety procedures? Sure, here's the paper, read what I have written and sign if you agree. You think the music is offensive in one section? Right. Ok. I'll... tell my managers... just... don't worry about it...

I also had a customer call when I was nearest to the phone at a store I worked at and complain that the manager was a dick to them. I happened to like that manager, so I pretended to be his boss, listened intently, and told nobody.
disregard this

There we go. My old first post edited, since I'll be rewriting the background of Japan today. I think it's a work of art.

The literary world needs more death poems.
The international dick measuring that took place in that one Roleplayer's Resort all that time ago.

Heh, Roleplayer's resorts are great like that. I flooded one with goats and we all ended the thing with a rap battle.

My achievements probably come down to having developed from a nooblet making gamey decisions to writing storylines that have some complexity to them, go somewhere, and have some substance too them. I've managed to develop a writing style that is actually readable.

But the most notable RP achievement I have, I think, is that I have completed a full story arc. Not a small arc, but rather a full sized 50k word plus story about the rebellion of an African warlord and the civil war that follows. That took me... two years, I think? But finishing that was a pretty satisfying accomplishment.
I googled "What does it feel like to have your throat slit" yesterday.

I am pretty sure some of the stuff i've googled for RP's has given me a meaty file with the NSA.
It is too bad there is no easy way to tally up the number of posts that each person has done in the entirety of Precipice history.

Something tells me that, whoever is second place, Aaron will be in first with double their amount.
