What's the deal with Fargo?

I haven't seen the series, but the movie was set in Minnesota and only named Fargo for the opening scene. And there are rural Minnesotans that have that sort of accent. The Swedish comment fits, because I've heard it said the unique accents of Minnesota and Wisconsin are often explained by Scandinavian ancestery

That is going to be the issue of this century. And how it will play out is unpredictable. Traditionally, the overthrow and decline of those hoarding the wealth brings about a major change in society. Rome went from Republic to Empire. France dropped one thousand years of aristocracy and became the most sharply modern state of that time. Whatever happens to our economic system within our lifetime, I doubt we'll go back to something mirroring what we had in the 20th century. The golden age of liberal capitalism is done; it isn't coming back any time soon. What happens next... shit, that's the unnerving part.

I am convinced that we are going to go through some shit, but i'm not so convinced that it will be the end of the world. There has only ever been one true societal collapse in human history (Bronze Age Collapse. The Dark Ages was the fall of Europe only). There doesn't seem to be any indicator of a coming nuclear war.

But the economic system? Yeh, that's going to evolve quite a bit. We've reached a point that is historically repeated over and over again, where the game is stacked so much in favor of a small number of elites that the economy starts to slow down. And then the elite get thrown out the window and there is a massive surge and golden age within that society. We just have to hope that our rejuvenation doesn't turn violent like so many have in the past.

"This restaurant serves split pea soup. That is so swag."

"My grandma put tennis balls on her walker to help with her swag."

"Where is the restroom? I need to go drop a swaglog."

How does one properly obtain "SWAG"?

I think it is determined by how many times that term is written on your clothing. Extra points if the name is also applied to any hygiene products you apply to yourself.

But if you have a vanity license plate using any variation of this term, you've gone to far.

I wonder how much of that has to do with the number of politicians and political strategists active now who came into their own during the cold war. Peace, that's difficult to build tactics around, but fear? That is easy. Once 9/11 happened, they had a base to work around.

I hate modern romance fiction

The difference is you guys are talking about novels with plots, where amoral things are part of some larger story. I've written about rape, castration, mass murder, the mutilation of children, but all in the context of war and political disorder. What Taaj is talking about is the type of romance novel where the relationship is the entire plot, and the entire point of the story is to titillate. It's more the literary equivalent of porn, where the plot is just a device to show the sexual stuff, rather than the sexual stuff being a method to advance the plot.

So, in that context, writing a rape fantasy to titillate is fucked up.
