Well, I am fucked then.

Not necessarily. Wikipedia says that there was an attempt to rebuild the federation in the 20's. Climb onto that and roll with it.
GEASS - Grand Empowering Association of Supportive States.

Just because the Cossack Hetmans were elective doesn't mean that the title can only ever be that. You'd just be invoking a title associated with Ukraine's Cossack past for the sake of cultural legitimacy, which is something that Monarchs and Dictators love to do. The constitutional details are whatever you want.

I will have a fleet but it will mainly be out of date and old with no new ships. Mainly due to the fact that halting the red army on land would be main focus the white army. So navy will pretty much take a back seat.

Oh of course, I wouldn't expect Russian splinters to keep an updated navy. Just remember your best resource will be Sebastopol. Shit, maybe beach a few ships to use as fortresses.
Hi I would love to take command of one of the fractured factions in Russia. In particular the white army in Crimea and surrounding area that Ukraine player hasn't claimed.

Sweet. Gonna be the remnants of the Russian navy?

It does have historical, and by virtue of its use, a linguistic basis. Calling it the Kingdom of the Ukraine gives off an amateur NRP vibe since they've typically used the term Hetman in place of monarchical titles. Since you are creating a monarchy out of thin air, you're going to grab for the nearest comparable tradition, and the Cossacks got it.

Best way to play it is just call it "The Ukraine" with its leader titled as "Hetman"

Nation: Kingdom of Ukraine

Use the terms "Hetman" and "Hetmanate" with the Ukraine. It fits their identity more comfortably and makes it feel more Ukrainian. Practically speaking it doesn't necessarily change the function of your government in anyway.
Despite thinking that stretching out WWI to 1929 is a bit silly for various reasons, I do have some interest. Unsure of who would be interesting to play in this scenario, though.

I was thinking the best way to do it is have the war peter out in 1920 due to political tension and revolution within the combatant nations. So the World War phase of it peters out and is replaced with the crisises that were already breaking out in IRL 1918. In this version, the "Great War" as a concept is extended into complicated interrelated domestic conflicts that could last a decade.

The main purpose of Great War on steroids is to destabilize Europe enough that it becomes sensible for us to do our own thing, and I think this scenario accomplishes this goal and makes sense.

Vilage brought that up privately with me and suggested that 1920 would be better, I sort of ran with the original "le war lasted eleven years longer

The war in the original lasted 11 years, not 11 years longer. 1925 was the end date in the original, and back then we were figured it was too long.
