Here's the first bit of lore. Sorry if it's a bit long, I included a TL:DR at the beginning. It details mainly with the Komnenian restoration, specifically on the reign of Emperor Manuel II. The rest of the lore won't be so in-depth; I intend to paint the rest of the history a lot more broadly. The OOC is about ~30% done, and I expect to finish that and the rest of the lore by tomorrow.

Thanks! You're welcome to join :)
Alright, that's enough people for me to start setting up the IC. I'll be posting some of the lore of the world over the next 1-2 days, and I'll expect to have the IC post up by this Sunday or Monday. Thanks for showing interest everyone, looking forward to this!
Bump!
They never really happened due to the Pope's relocation to Paris, and since the Holy Roman Emperor won the Investiture Controversy and no great Western schism ever occurred. The Catholic church has also stayed relatively unified, due to their being no pressing conflict against Muslim nations.

I have a lot of the lore written or at least partially written, including a broad history of how the Byzantines recovered their empire and the butterfly effects this had on the rest of the Western world. I'll definitely include the rest of the lore when this RP gets enough interest, but in the meantime I don't mind any questions!
I have a question though, does my character have to be a Greek/Roman or can he be of any of the subject ethnicities, i.e. Romanian? And what is the relationship of Rome with Russia? Also did the Orthodox-Catholic schism even happen here?

Can be any race of the subject nations, though of course it may be a bit easier to advance as a full-blooded Greek/Roman. Certain regiments are made up entirely of one race, like the Varangian Grenadier Guards, but the Imperial Dragoons do not have such a requirement. Keep in mind that if you plan on rolling an officer character, your character will have had to purchase a commission, which would be very difficult for any non-nobility to find the means for. The Empire is on generally favorable terms with the Russians on account of their shared orthodoxy, though they aren't allied. The Orthodox-Catholic schism did happen, but the Pope has lost a significant amount of influence after the reconquest of Italy (and the city of Rome) by the Empire.
I creamed my pants, I need this

Glad to hear it :)
This looks awesome. Definitely has my interest.

Noted! Thanks :)

"And, like a purple phoenix, the Empire of the Romans rose from the ashes..."
—Edward Gibbon, excerpt from The Revival of the Roman State

The year is 1814, and the Byzantine Empire flourishes. Recovered from the brink of destruction, the Empire has expanded to become the preeminent colonial power in Europe. It's holdings stretch from the fertile floodplains of the Nile to the lucrative spice islands of the far east, and represent the greatest territorial extent the Empire has ever achieved. Constantinople is counted the richest city in the world, and the Imperial tagmata reach numbers not seen since Trajan ruled.

But all is not well in Byzantium. The British, buoyed by their victory over the Franks in the hundred years war, have established a colonial empire of their own in the New World. Their navy challenges Byzantine supremacy at sea, threatening to break centuries of Roman dominance in the Mediterranean. Meanwhile, the so-called Holy Roman Empire, at the encouragement of the Pope in Paris, seeks to reclaim its Italian territories; most especially the ancient city of Rome. Even more worrying are the rumors of the eastern kingdoms of Hungary and Galicia pledging their aid against Byzantium in this endeavor.

Combined with the ever-present threat of insurrection, the Byzantine Empire faces enemies from within and without. You, a gentleman-officer of the Imperial Dragoons, may soon find yourself waging a war for the Empire's very survival.

Hello everyone. As you may have surmised, the premise of this RP is a sort of "what-if" scenario, where the Byzantine Empire never fell and instead became a colonial power, along with other fun history-bending changes. The RP I have in my head is a low-fantasy world, where magic does exist but in scarce quantity, and its usage is slowly being encroached upon by new advances in science. If this interest check succeeds, I'll do a large and very in-detail lore write-up, but for now to sum up: alternate-history world in the Napoleonic era, with a little magic.

Gameplay will focus around a single unit of Imperial Dragoons, following their campaigns across Europe against the coalition powers (Britain, the HRE, Hungary, Galicia, etc). There will be skirmishes, ambushes, grand battles, intrigue, and all the sorts of fun you may expect from a war in this era, along with some fantasy elements sprinkled in for good measure. You'll start, along with your fellow RPers, as either an enlisted man or officer, and naturally the party will gradually work itself up to higher ranks and responsibilities as the RP progresses. I will be driving the major events from the behind-the-scenes, though of course I'll be taking into account the party's actions as well as player input.

That's about it for now. Since the RP will be focused primarily on a single unit of Dragoons, I'm looking for 4-6 people to show interest.

Trying to get back into guild rp, count me in if there is still room!
