Question: Is posting Open Challenges a thing that's done/allowed here?

yeah, though it's mostly unranked challenges that go here
Why are you all calling Gernev ugly? He doesn't even have a patch of skin peeking from underneath all the armor.

Important, you're doomed >:3

Yes, I thought you were still pondering your alternative character. :)

Not quite pondering - i've picked and thought them through, only thing that's left is to write it up, which shouldn't take long. How's your re-work going?
So, I'm very new to Arena, (the only thing I've put interest in hasn't moved in weeks) and want to be a part of the Arena. I just don't know how to start or what to do. It doesn't seem like there's anything going on, since most of the recent iChecks are days/weeks old at earliest.

tl;dr New to arena. What do?

Arena regulars seldom post in the interest checks, since most of the business goes around in these two threads:

roleplayerguild.com/topics/78452-arena..

roleplayerguild.com/topics/79678-rpgui..

You can ask for a regular fight in the arena chat thread, or sign up for the rankings and look for ranked battles in the headquarters. A character sheet and basic understanding of what roleplay combat is like will all you'll need for that.
@Innue

Still up for the fight against me?
Yo. Long time no see, people.

yo, welcome back.

I'm translating a sheet from a specific self-constructed universe, so I'll give you a brief rundown.

Shio is an Atrenian exorcist. She's from a family of exorcists and is on/completed her Rites, which are a set of challenges for Atrenian youth which mirror the path of an ancient summoner from thousands of years ago (all Atrenians can summon beings they have tied themselves to). Personality wise, she grew up in a rigid environment from her father which dictated strict training in order to overthrow another family that had taken control over their place in the Rites (their family had historically set up one of the challenges). So she hasn't had much of a childhood and is sort of socially inept. Her strong belief is in sending spirits to rest and is generally offended by their use in magic.

Frankly, that doesn't make for a character who would easily get into trouble with a complete stranger; but one of my own is an unconditional asshole, who is just far too prideful for his own good, and the other has long gone insane, being a centuries old supersoldier that has his brain slowly breaking down due to age and prior genetic tampering, so there's bound be a reason for conflict with those two.
<Snipped quote by Vordak>

Similar or lower is fine.

The downside to Atrenian magic is that all of it has pretty strict function.

May i have a link to Shio's sheet, or at least some sort of insight into her personality/backstory? Knowing what kind of character they are would help me pick one of my own that i'd find fitting; it would be more natural for the two to have an inherent reason to fight, such as conflicting personalities or one of them having something the other wants to acquire.
<Snipped quote by Vordak>

All Atrenian magic is derived from Akasha or another deity level being in order to achieve specific functionality. So her Kuji-kiri spell would, at 9 instances of contact, invoke the power of Akasha.

Then i believe i'd have to change characters after all. What should i be aiming for - a level of power similar to Ijok's, or slightly lower?
<Snipped quote by Vordak>

Actually, do you have another character that may work better?

To make one of Shio's abilities make sense in a general universe may make her too strong against him since he is technically a spirit and she's an exorcist. >.>

Unless Shio can pump enough energy into her exorcism techniques to make it the magical equivalent of a nuke, Ijok can counter with his own power. After all, he's possessing an inanimate object that's tightly bound to him and does not exert any sort of repulsive force, as the body of a living being may have, meaning that's he's certainly free to fight against any sort of magical technique that tries to break the bond between him and the conduit.

If she can call upon the power of a deity, then indeed, i'd have to change characters - but otherwise, Ijok is a rather unorthodox spirit in this sense. The strict definition of what he is would be a discrete congestion of magical energies, controlled by a sentient mind contained within the congestion itself. Sort of like a brain made out of mana.
