"This is what is left sir" said one of the 6th Legions Captains as he stood over the ruins of a small settlement which had been burnt to the ground and its inhabitants slaughtered, now cut in pieces and charred horribly "House Uyles is said to have left nothing behind, apparently they didn't even care to get slaves this time"
"I see" said Rathaeus who had been elected to solve this issue instead of some diplomate who was probably brought and had no real skill. He crouched down and touched the ashes and sifted them through his hands, thinking of the pain that the people here must have experienced when the Uyles came. But Rathaeus could do nothing for them, he knew that all he could do now was prepare for the meeting he arranged with a Diplomat from Cromania and of course tell his men to sharpen their swords and be prepared for anything in case the meeting went awry. Even if the meeting did not go to plan there was no doubt in his mind that he would crush the Cromanians, after all behind him was the entire 6th Legion who were skilled veterans and there was also a portion of the "Slave army" and while they did not carry any particular skill they used their numbers as a advantage over the enemy.

Rathaeus made his way back to the camp and waited for the Cromanian diplomats to arrive

Thats certainly a extreme comparison but I see your point. However it is clear from the reforms that Whitlam made to the country that he was a indeed a great man

The point is that even if you don't agree with his politics Whitlam actually got things done and not just occasionally pass a few meaningless bills that most politicians seem to be doing these days

Sadness! This news hasn't reached our shores yet (via mainstream, anyway). I lived in Australia for a couple years, and this much I know: Whitlam was a 'bloody legend' - definitely one of the country's greatest champions. The first and only time I had met him was during a state-wide campaign to educate school-aged children about the voting system (I think? Words didn't matter as much as Sailor Moon did back in those days). He was so lovely and patient with us, we initially thought Santa had chosen to visit early. I learnt a little more about him in high school when writing a biography for Social Studies and damn, what a brilliant man he was. However, what I remember most was having to draw those infamous brows on his portrait for the cover art, and getting laughed at about it because everyone thought I was taking the piss. He issued many memorable quotes, like the iconic "It's Time", and of course "Kerr's cur". He stood up for the indigenous population in an era when segregation was the norm and violations against were not formally recognised. That many of my older, Aboriginal friends speak of him in a friendly tone is a testiment to this in itself. His voice and manner/mana were revered and felt from federal to community level. This is such a great loss for all, but I pity this modern generation the most, as I doubt we'll ever see another public figure of this caliber rise and take charge again. It is some consolation knowing that, finally, he and 'his Margaret' can rest together peacefully.

Your darn right he's a "Bloody Legend". I dare say he is one of the greatest Australians to ever have lived, and certainly the best that has lead us. Hell I'm not religious or anything but I wouldn't have any objections if he became a saint, which he practically is for the Labour party.

this was an ironic post but i wouldnt be surprised if you deep down hold this sentiment any thread that has someone swinging around calling themself a conservative and pretending they can throw around a standard of logic and reason embeds the thread with a deep toxicity

While I don't take any offence to it, I have to agree that Ad Hominems are pointless and just detracts from the good nitty gritty political arguments that we find ourselves yelling at each other over.

The house of Dasius has always had a reputation of raiding settlements across the border but never before had they gone so deep into foreign territory and it seems that this time further action may need to be taken.
"Senators" announced Rathaeus Xeros the Highest of the Consuls " I know we must let House Ulyes fall upon its own sword but I think this time we must make a exception. I suggest we send the 6th legion as well as a portion of the Slave army and guard the border to ensure the future Security of the republics. Meanwhile we will confiscate the plundered items as well as a portion of personal wealth from house Ulyes"

"I... I think we can agree to that" said the other senator with a sly smile as his house has been planning to move in on House Ulyes territory for years
"No! I will not stand for this!" yelled Dasius furiously "You will regret this! House Uyles will get justice!" He finished as he marched out of the senate
