Be sure not to become what you hate. I used to hate those who abandoned RPs without a word and then I became one of them, a lesson to us all

Agreed but luckily the ABC and SBS are not biased despite what the right says. And to be honest I do have a problem with it being owned by business but I have come to realise a communist revolution is not going to happen any time soon so I tend to make my beliefs more moderate, or at least on the surface.
No, trust me I know about American media, I'm not saying I know a lot but we do get some American News in Australia, I just don't watch it often because like I said its pretty lousy, except for the PBS news hour, that's pretty decent
Heh I think people continue to watch because they are "entertained", I don't know much about American media but from what I have seen it looks pretty lousy to me
Like i said the news needs to report on things that are important, not things like "DEAR GOD THE BRITISH ROYAL FAMILY HAD A CHILD!!!", and I don't know about you but I believe murders are fairly important. Also just because a shooting happens in a white middle class area that does not mean that it is more important than a school that "has shootings often"

No, it's not my opinion, it's an objective fact that I'm expressing to you. The goal of a business is to generate capital. That's how businesses work.
That may be so but the role of news is to inform not make capital for the shareholders. The people and their education of the world comes before profit.
That's your opinion but I myself am a Marxist-Leninist (among other things as I stated at the start of this thread) and I believe that the role of the media is to inform the masses (which I assume you have picked up on by now)
It's called news for a reason. It's supposed to show the people about affairs in their country and the world not entertain them if they want to rot their brain then they can but don't let that become news. There needs to be a clear boundary between news and entertainment.
Let me guess your a capitalist aren't you? But I have to disagree with you the role of the media is to inform (and hopefully educate while doing so) the people.
Yeah I know that much about the states. Luckily in Australia there are still two public broadcasters who want to educate the masses and not just make money. Unfortunately the newly elected Government wants to cut funding to these broadcasters so they can create a fully fledged free market and don't have to worry about the "pesky left" while doing it.
So what if it happens frequently? It still deserves attention so we can help fix it. Also the news job is to report what is important and if that means less viewers than so be it, at least they are showing events that demand attention and are not the pseudo-news-but-really-just-entertainment shows. If I was in America I would give you a example or two but I don't so I can't.
