Robin stumbled into the dance, feet kicking up detriment and not quite matching the the girl’s silent tempo. Fireflies fluttered around them in their own private dance, and a soft pulsating purple light blanketed them as if the entire moment was alive. The light shone right through the girl, only illuminating her dirtied dress and the untouched flowers on her head. The ethereal seconds she danced dazed her, but it quickly passed as they continued their trek further into the ominous forest.
The owl flew ahead, garland in it’s grip, as blood leaked onto the flowers and the forest floor. The fireflies continued their dance ahead. Where they were going, Robin didn’t know, but there was nowhere to go but forward. Taking a brief moment to look behind her, Robin noticed all the lights had disappeared. She paused and stared at the darkness behind them; it was as if any presence behind them had disappeared. Only the void remained.
The smell of fire wafted in the air from an unidentifiable direction and she rushed ahead to meet the rest; the owl flew clumsily and disappeared from view, past a particularly thick throng of trees. they had emerged out into a clearing, where the sound of rushing water clashed with the screaming of the burning forest.
Robin froze, lantern still tucked under her shirt. They had only moved in a straight line—how was this possible? She took in her surroundings; two across the river on the side of the rampant flames; two on the metal bridge, a sturdy thing over a chaotic river; and the rest next to her, staring wide eyed at the strangers. Her eyes fell upon the green light coming from the boy. He clutched the lantern tightly to his chest as orb pulsated from within a familiar lantern.
The fire roared, its hungry tendrils reaching farther up into the night sky. The girl across the rapids crumpled to the floor, a dart imbedded in her neck, and a flash of white emerged in the bushes. Robin slowly moved backwards, keeping a steady eye on the rest of the people; she lifted the lantern, and it’s light grew in intensity, mirroring that of the green lantern.
The strangers would have to move to their side of the river to escape the fire, but Robin was hesitant to turn back and head into the forest. It was a tricky one that would most likely lead them to disarray. The green lantern that so closely mirrored her own must have some purpose--She stood close to MC and the flower girl, grounded by the determination to discover the truth and readying herself to react at the first sign of malice.
With a clean hit, the hive was knocked from the tree branch, and from it, emerged dozens of angry insects. Van felt victory swell in her chest, but it was short lived, as she watched the bees grow in size and number. They were abnormally large and were not the type she encountered in her family backyard.
They swarmed one of the monsters, and it fled back to the river, but the other came closer, opening its mouth to release another powerful jet of water. It’s belly grew in size as it inhaled deeply, and Van went cold; she could not move, and could hear the rumble of water arise from the trenches creature’s stomach and shoot out directly at her.
She turned her head and shut her eyes, waiting for impact. A few seconds had passed and she peeked open an eye; a small bear stood in front of her, honey pooling around its feet. Van opened her mouth in disbelief as the bear spoke in an almost cutesy manner. She shook her head and silently rushed to the tree, pulling at Malcolm’s pant leg.
“Get down! I’ll catch you,” she whispered. The two strange creatures seemed to be at a deadlock, and if there was a time to escape, it was now.
They sprinted past the tightly clumped trees, stumbling past thick tree roots and scattered debris. Van let go of Malcolm's hand when she was sure he was meeting her pace. Behind them, the sound of wood cracking and breaking was deafening. The creature's heavy footsteps shook the earth in a steady pace.
Tears prickled at her eyes as she ran, heart feeling as if it would break out of her chest. No matter how hard she tried, she could remember nothing. The dog tags clinked against each other, mocking her lack of remembrance.
The sound of rushing water erupted from behind and she ducked her head, wiping her tears. Splinters of wood flew past their heads, and they moved faster, zig zagging around the trees. They gained some ground on the creature, which had tripped on a larger tree root.
Malcolm stopped at a large tree and hopped up to climb in what looked like desperation. She skidded to a stop and watched him struggle up the tree, dumbfounded. He shimmied up to the middle of the trunk, which wasn't really that high, and beckoned for her to follow. Van looked from the Malcolm, to the tree, to the approaching beast which was preparing to shoot another blast of water from it's mouth, and time seemed to slow as possibilities ran through her mind.
A large beehive was strung on a branch that stretched out towards the lumbering creature and a long, sturdy branch lay near her feet. She grabbed the branch and approached the tree, offering it to the boy still clinging onto the trunk. He continued his ascent slowly, but she was sure the stick was long and strong enough for him to knock the hive down with a swift swing.
"Use this! Knock down the hive!" She hollered, and stood on her toes to offer the branch.
Appearance: Tall at 5’ 9’’ with an an average build, but at times can look gaunt and sickly if she has been working on something for too long. Often appears disheveled with little regard to her physical appearance. Robin has long black hair that is almost always tied up (simply because it's easier to handle) with a colored ribbon. Her defining feature are her captivating hazel eyes—usually accompanied with bags and crows feet.
Personality: Honest and generally chill. She sometimes throws tactfulness out the window with her bluntness and biting sarcasm, having little patience for formalities and elephants-in-the-room. Very little gets under her skin, and to the outsider, she seems to be in a continuous state of chill and self paced movement—in reality, she is the type of person to feel explosively about a few things rather than let the trivial details get to her; Is strongly against dark wizards and injustice, but is more tolerant of taboo magic, due to her invested interest in learning all facets of magic.
Hobbies include experimenting and tinkering with the elements of certain spells, runes, and potions. Her methods could be compared to that of a scientist: hypothesize, test, and iterate. She's anything but risk averse, and often sacrifices her own self care when she dives into a personal project.
Backstory: Robin's muggle mother immigrated from the capital of Cambodia to England, where she met and fell in love with her husband, an auror working for the ministry. She lived in London for 7 years of her life, until they moved to Whitby, North Yorkshire, a small town where her eccentric grandmother of a witch lived. She always looked up to her father, and wanted to follow in his footsteps. When the Second Wizarding War began a couple years later, her father was dispatched to fight the dark forces, and would often send messages home. After a few months, those messages stopped. Robin and her family routinely checked the news, and watched as the headlines got darker and heavier as the months passed.
Robin grew distant and would lock herself in her study or grandma’s library, pouring her time into reading and experimenting with all sorts of magicks. Her mother grew weary and disheartened with time, and hovered incessantly over Robin, discouraging her interest in higher level magic. Her grandmother, on the other hand, didn’t condemn the practice, but actively taught Robin about arcane potion making and ancient runes—it was the next few years of this that she became obsessed with learning new skills; her escape into magic was at first a coping method, fueled by anger and sadness with the disappearance of her father, but eventually became a true passion. She had normal relationships at her muggle school and maintained below average grades at her school with the knowledge she would attend a magical school.
After the ministry is reestablished in a few years, news of her father returns; he is discovered to be alive, but has aged 30 years due to a complex spall cast on him. The family is overjoyed to see him return after 3 years, but Robin is fueled with anger as she takes note of his old and tired face. He went into hiding when the Ministry was overthrown and worked closely with Kingsley Shackbolt to rebuild it. Robin refused the offer to study at a smaller magic school near the area, and now attends Hogwarts, where she is able to be closer to her father.
Strengths: Other than her bullish determination to work hard and commit, she has surprising people skills—others find her honesty refreshing. She has the natural ability of disarming people in conversation. She's also a natural at systems and innovative thinking and is a staunch autodidact.
Weaknesses: Often gets stuck in her head. She struggles with communicating with people constantly and expressing her feelings & thoughts. Because of this she also has difficulty working in a team and maintaining empathetic relations with other people.

They both moved closer to the bank of the lake to escape the harsh sunlight. She picked up the sweater on the floor and tied it around her waist--it was drier than she expected. The rest of her clothes were uncomfortably moist, but she hardly noticed in light of the bizarre circumstances she was in.
Sunlight glittered on the water's surface; it was a clear, aqua color, and that complemented the rest of her surroundings. Everything seemed to perfect; on any other occasion, she would be absolutely thrilled to be in such a beautiful place, but now she was only puzzled. The fact that she could not remember anything troubled her.
A blur of red appeared in the water, and she stared, watching the unnatural colors take shape. A creature that resembled a dinosaur approached the surface of the water and she stepped back. It's figure grew and grew in size, it's eyes fixated on the two of them. Van stood in shock as it breached the surface, rising to hover over them.
She gulped and slowly reached out to grip Malcolm's wrist.
"Run," she breathed, and sprinted away, dragging Malcolm with her to the trees, where the dense forestry would make it difficult for the creature to reach them if it did go after them.

Appearance: 5’ 4’’, with a fit frame. Short brown hair, tinted red from a short point in time when she went overboard with hair dye. When she finds herself on the island, she is wearing a black leather jacket and white sleeveless shirt, as well as plain dark blue trousers with black boots. She also has a necklace holding dog tags and a pair of enchanted gloves.
Personality: Innovation + Passion. She pours her all into everything that she does and is incredibly innovative. Having grown up with an inventor aunt has played a huge part in shaping who she is and her interests. She is a fast learner and picks up skills easily, but has a hard time with rote memorization. Ideas and obstacles get her excited—she’s always looking for challenges. Sees failure as a stepping stone towards success and has a ridiculous amount of willpower.
On the other hand, she’s quick to jump to conclusions. She latches onto an idea immediately and follows it to completion, even if it ends in failure. Van is an outgoing person to those who know her, but is still in her awkward phase—the joys of being a teenager.
