I'lm going to claim this bit of land as shown here. Red is mainland and gold is colonial areas.
Also, don't think of the Colonial areas as their final place, I might have overlapped with someone else. Oops >.<
Your claim clashes with mine on multiple points, see:

Hope my territory claim isn't anything too excessive.

Cyan green = Elven mainland
Purple = colonies/provinces

I tried to link my borders to crossings, large bodies of water and mountains.
Unfortunately this also made my territories slightly larger than I initially intended.

Again! We need a USSR! I might have to make an NPC of them.
Make them dwarven.
Soviet dwarfs fighting for the rights of the proletariat!

@Willy Vereb That's great! I can't wait to see someone put their nation adjacent to your colonies and get all aggressive.
Yup, my colonies are all potential kegs of gunpowder.
I kinda added them with that intention. Plus because we're pretty much in that age.
Actually, I don't even mind if somebody picks the territory of my colonies as their own. So long they don't mind playing the role of my province. (and then most likely rebel against me to earn their freedom).

another issue my elves have is that gradually they're becoming a minority in their own empire. Humans and some other races reproduce faster and generally the empire stretched way past of their original borders. Regardles, elves look down on everybody else as lesser races but at least their treatment became nicer. Few hundreds of years ago the elves never viewed humans any more than their slaves.
Things changed as the elves lost some of their power. Albeit your usual elf is so arrogant he'd never admit it.

Yeah sure, finish your elves an let me see them in all their point eared glory.

Petrochemical derivatives (oil) in general should be a highly valued material in this world, indeed.
It's a fuel source for motors, important mechanical lubricant and the source material of various other chemicals already in use by the 40s.
Its importance might not be as huge as it'll be in the cold war era or our modern world but it's still one of the things nations should be fighting for.
@Voltus_VentusBTW, are my elves accepted for now?
I'm already working on their profile in the character page.
My Elves are basically Roman/French/Italians in terms of culture.
As for claims on materials I may wish to take mine on Mithril and a certain type of rocket fuel.
I can even write a semi-legitimate paper on each.
But I think most players would prefer the simple format.

Mithril in particular will be essential for my nation because elves are physically weaker and can't carry around that much weight.
Mithril is going to be pretty much my nation's equivalent of steel.
It looks beautiful and such but basically it won't be that much of a "super rare super OP material".
The technology you are limited to for now is 1930-1940, I changed it in the first post from 1910. And as for materials, go ahead and make what you want, as long as it isn't too OP and you can explain it decent enough. @Willy Vereb
Ah, sorry for not responding for a while.

Anyways, I thought about creating something like elves for this setting.
They'd be descendants of prehistoric birds so they're fragile but somewhat more speedy.
Their heightened senses and good sense of balace/physics also help them to get ahead with a few inventions.
They'd be also arrogant as hell.
