Here it Is
Nah, the two are nothing alike. This game is closer to a straight battle.
You put up your profile and somebody challenges you. Then you make a thread for this match just like we did with Echos:
roleplayerguild.com/topics/87051-when-..
Granted, we got busy but it shows what kind of game I am talking about.

I remember that like 8 or 7 months back someone ran something similar to this and put it in the NRP section.
Interesting. I only remember ClockworkEchos' idea which ran an interest thread in the general section.
I volunteered and we made a thread for the fight between Yamatai and Yllendthyr in the Arena section. I am kinda aiming for something similar but more organized.

Mind you giving me a link for that similar thread, though?

@duck55223 care to give your verdict on martians and jet engines? Just to settle it. It's your lore, and more clarity is always good.
He's busy with family matters right now.
Although I can tell you he really didn't like my Martian idea back then. I don't know if he did reconsider this so I kinda took my chances with it.

As for jet engines, they are pretty much the only way you can get aircraft with steam working. Just by using steam turbines rather than gas turbines. The other alternative is internal combustion engines which of course don't exist here with blue coal so practical for steam. Describing my aircrafts to have jet engines is a bit misleading since it would draw the connotation I may try recreating late WW2 era jet aircraft. I don't.

The Enterprise is traveling to your location, @WilsonTurner.
Feel free to assign them whichever part of your territory you want them to find. The one thing you may want to keep in mind that their observation on signs of civilization are 100-300 years old due to the tachyonic lag. So preferably they don't find one of your newest territories. But again, up to you.
@MetalLoverBecause it kinda rather belongs to the Arena and Casual threads I don't know if I should make an OOC thread for it in the NRP section. So instead I just use this thread to organize the games. Maybe it'd change in the future but until then feel free to post whichever faction you wish to try. Given the interest I think you can find a match soon.
"Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise.
Its mission: to explore and exploit strange new worlds, to seek out new resources,
to boldly go where no man has gone before."

The Star Federation of Mankind enjoyed over 300 years of prosperity and still counting. Humanity grew immensely with the average citizen believing there's nothing technology couldn't solve. Yet people became increasingly aware of one thing: they weren't alone. Though they lacked the practical means Humanity had plenty chances to observe signs of advanced civilizations inhabiting distant stars. They were not alone. There's an entire galaxy filled with life out there. Using various probes Humanity attempted to communicate with these races yet apparently without much luck on their part. All is changed after the discovery of hyperspace. Relying on the new physics of this alternate dimension it became possible to travel far faster than previously thought possible. They unlocked the final key to explore the galaxy and it's up for the crew of the Enterprise to take that monumental first step!

Captain Tiberius J. Kirk was at the command bridge of the FSS-1701 Enterprise. It was a freshly retrofitted Vega-class starship equipped for ultra long range exploration. Compared to before it had less Q-Box output to give space for additional construction and research equipment. From the standard 750 the crew also expanded to 1280. While Starfleet couldn't spare more than a single ship for something as half-hearted as galactic exploration they indeed do their job to prepare the Enterprise to accomplish her mission. This also explains how they got a troublesome officer like Kirk to command this vessel. He was expendable and the leadership would rather have him somewhere far away. Meanwhile the media coverage of this introduces the mission as a monumental step towards understanding the galaxy and meeting alien life. In reality the Federation has its hands full with its member nations and only has minimal interest in the project. In addition while there's a strong suspicion of alien civilizations they are only working with theoretical data. Whether Kirk meets alien babes along the way is rather questionable. Well, considering the diverse appearance of his girlfriends, Kirk wouldn't hesitate to start flirting with them. Cosmetic surgery within the Federation made such developments that it was possible and almost common to make people look like aliens from popular sci-fi. Hell, his first officer looks like an elf from whichever fantasy book he took inspiration for!

"Farcaster initialized. Hyperspace corridor is stabilizing."
Navigational Officer Tomokazu Espósito Paris reported as he made preparations for long range interstellar travel. The Enterprise is traveling almost a thousand lightyears for the location determined most likely to hold sentient life. There could be numerous other places ripe for exploration but Starfleet determined those look actually useful and there are teams long prepared to seek them out. Yet this neglect might what cause the greatest change within the Federation in centuries.
"We have now entered hyperspace. Estimated travel time is 2 hours 42 minutes."

I think you mean mid-WWII. WWI was the bit where we all used biplanes made out of canvas. But yeah, it definitely isn't too far-fetched to have jet engines be developed. I doubt that anyone would have invented them yet, though.
Not quite. The first "turbine" was developed by Hero of Alexandria back in the ancient age. The first turbine useful for something was made in the 18th century. Fast forward to the 19th century and the creation of steam turbines as we know them. Gas turbines which are the basis of jet engines made practical about a decade before WW1. And then during mid-WW1 they already had plans for using jets (including a ramjet propelled artillery shell).
What they lacked was materials and further study of jet engines (as well a few technicalities developed in 1929). Even then a Hungarian inventor actually made both turbojet and turboprop engine plans as far as back in 1926. And again, if machinery and material science is at a level to allow mechs I wouldn't be surprised if the concerns preventing jets to be fielded in 1916 would be nonexistent here.

Overall jets/turbines are just another form of propulsion. Jets are only convenient once standard propeller engines reach close to their practical limits. Granted, turbofans can be considered the mix of a turbojet and a ducted fan engine so they are kinda the best of both worlds. So considering this I am more likely to field a high-performance turbine-powered prop engine than actual jets.

Willy... Willy this is a pretty fun idea. I may join in the shenanigans.
Just post whichever faction/nation you want to play with and you're in. For the record the above faction I posted was merely an example. Don't mind if people "challenge" me with them but don't feel pressured if you have nothing that fits against them.
Just post your nation here if you're interested and the rest is handled by this simple yet amazingly effective system.

Or tell me where you want to be, and I'll add you to the map.

This really conflicts with the entire setting. I'm gonna say "no". This is Alt-History, not Sci-Fi.

I think jet engines would directly conflict with the tech levels of everyone else. Steam power, man! Steam power! Think late-Victorian, with some out-of-place tech directly resulting from coal-burning.
Steampunk is sci-fi in the past and many classics which made steampunk were actually sci-fi during their age and also featured aliens at times. While aliens are a bit weird to even exist, I added it as a complication rather than an actual advantage. I could have Africans with Tripods and it wouldn't change much. But the mechanism how Martians interact is too much fun to miss.

As for jet engines, no. Actually given the mechanics of steam, turbine engines make far more sense to be developed sooner. Also jets were a thing by mid-WW1. It just took a while to develop them. But again we have mechs so arguing against jets seems arbitrary. Blue coal explicitly can replace gasoline engines here so building turbines either for jet propulsion or driving propellers like turboshafts is hardly out of reach.

I call dibs on this color.
I will write my NS tomorrow.
