Vitruvian Man - Alley Way off Central Park - Boomstick

Devin didn’t need to look back to know that his advice was being followed. He could hear Boomstick behind him as they reached the park area and cut the corner into a nearby street. He had been inclined to take refuge in the park itself, but after he heard the familiar sounds of a helicopter he knew being in the open area could leave them vulnerable. When he cut into the alley way he pulled out his grapple gun and fired upwards. It instantly magnetized itself to the fire escape and pulled him up. He flipped over the railing and landed facing towards the alley entrance just as Boomstick turned the corner.

When she turned the corner her arm acted like a nightlight. “Any chance you can turn that off.” Devin said from his perch. He wasn’t in the mood for a friendly chat so he was going for a slightly in charge sort of tone. He knew it wouldn’t make him any friends, but that wasn’t the reason he was getting involved. “You shouldn’t have gotten pulled into that fight. You endangered everyone around you as well as played into the trap they were setting for you. Be more aware of your enemy’s goals in the future.”

Devin was about to continue his lecture when he was interrupted by L.I.S.A. she was letting him know that they seemed to be in the clear for the moment; moreover, the surprise attack had allowed everyone involved to make their own escape from the fighting. It was good news, but it came at a price. I have calculated that several of the people, if not all of them, are highly likely targets for the unknown meta and it would be advised to rally them.

Devin felt that they should at least make some sort of attempt to communicate with the group tonight, but didn’t see an immediate option outside of L.I.S.A. tracking them all down. It would be exhausting and would be a taboo move on his part tracking down costumed heroes and possibly revealing their hidden identity. He knew he was going to first have to calm down the firecracker below him so he jumped down and stood face to hood with the young woman. “Air your grievances.” Devin said with a firm tone.
Vitruvian Man - Central Park Fight - The Whole Dang Party

The theater below him had rapidly increased its on stage characters. Devin watched as the fighting turned from puffing chests to what could only be described as a school yard rumble. Faces he was familiar from following the news made their entrance one after the other. The troubling fact was the unknown wasn’t just still standing against what was now an overwhelming number of metahumans, but that he was also pushing them back.

When he saw Boomstick activate her popularly called god mode Devin knew things were escalating to a point of endangering the entire city. He already saw bodies get thrown through a building and fire back by throwing part of the building in response. He was about to make his move when another player joined and then another. “If I were to make a suggestion Devin I would advise that this scene be suppressed as quickly as possible.”

“Couldn’t agree with you more L.I.S.A.” Devin said back. The problem was making a move that didn’t add to the chaos. Through L.I.S.A. and some logical thinking he had devised that the unknown was one of the new weapons this unknown group was employing to capture those with powers. They certainly found a tank judging from the damage it can take and give. That allowed for some liberties in his fighting methods, but also meant he was walking into a ring with an already pissed off bull.

Devin stood up and watched as the unknown was thrown across the street again. He then seemed to deal with the gunman as well as somehow learn how to fly. Throw an S on him and I could write his origins… he thought with a furrow of his brow. His move would need to be fast and above all immobilizing. He had the tricks and tools to pull it off, but at the same time wasn’t sure how he would go about rallying those who were avoiding capture.

He noticed how trusting they were and saw that as a good sign. The problem with it is they are all active heroes whereas the Vitruvian Man hadn’t been seen in years. Would they recognize him or assume he was another unknown and attack before he had a chance to explain. These thoughts might have halted the hero longer if it wasn’t for the fact that he saw what was soon going to be an experiment in the realm of unmovable meeting unstoppable.

Leaping from the roof and activating his glider Vitruvian quickly fell into a dive that matched the unknowns speed. When the unknown was no more than five yards from Boomstick Devin made his presence known in a very deliberate way by introducing himself to the unknown to his heel landing directly on his back.

Devin felt his kick land true and immediately after that he felt the unknown land face first into the asphalt of the street. Not wasting any time he leaned back to avoid what seemed to be a string or web and then threw his glue capsules onto the ground around the unknowns’ arms and legs. As soon as they hit they exploded into a white foam that quickly turned to a gum like adhesive latching itself to the unknowns body and the street. He then followed it up with a smoke bomb which went off on the unknown sword wielding bounty hunter and brought a thick cloud of black smoke to the scene.

Vitruvian then ran towards Boomstick and then past her yelling. “He wins if you get caught. You win if you escape. Follow me now!” Devin was already running with the smoke cloud hot on his tail. Before fully losing sight of the unknown he aimed his gauntlet at him and fired a tracking chip onto his armor. “Scatter! He has backup on the way.” He said when running past the others who had joined the fight.

In a total of 10 seconds Devin had joined the fight and left the scene behind him for the cover of the park. His moves were still rusty, but he was confident he was getting back into fighting form. He could hear his dads’ voice in the back of his head talking about how it was good, but could always be better. I’ll try and aim for 8 seconds next time dad Devin thought.
Vitruvian Man - Central Park

The wind brought on by the subway train would blow a lesser prepared person off the top. Thanks to the specialized gauntlets David wore he was not someone unprepared. The surprises the gauntlets held were numerous with many involving transportation and combat assistance. Right now they were magnetized allowing Vitruvian to lock onto the train’s metal roof. When it reached the forest of skyscrapers Devin detached from the train and began swinging from building to building with his grapple gun. The wind was similarly harsh as he swung through the sky, but instead of feeling stuck the wind was liberating to the hero.

It had been closer to a year since he had taken the grapple gun out for a night of swinging. He hadn’t worn the costume at that time but he knew it was a small step between the two. He hadn’t run into any crime but always thought that if he had it wouldn’t have mattered. He would have turned a blind eye just like he had before when he knew he could help. The question then remained why he was helping now. Surely going public with the information gathered by L.I.S.A. could in theory bring the organization to the Justice Leagues attention.

And there it was. All of a sudden the quickness of putting on the costume and the rapid nature of him returning to form was made absolutely clear. He wasn’t saving the kids this organization was after. Hell, he wasn’t even doing something as silly as saving himself. He was recreating himself. His life of simple normal days wasn’t in need of saving, but it was in need of changes. Devin remembered an old conversation he had once when he met Wonder Woman back in the time of fighting alongside his father.

“I will not allow evil to work when I can stop it. To stop a greater evil I have friends who share my desire to act. Surround yourself with those that wish to help and you will never even need to ask.” She had said. This was of course after she had single handedly taken down the entire Rouges group with The Flash. Sadly Devin had not seen the fastest man alive. Even if he was in the same room as him. Devin had been alone in many of his worries about his family. His friends had asked what was wrong time and time again, but there was no way he could tell them the truth.

Reaching the top of the Central Plaza Hotel Devin returned his attention to the mission. His hopes of reaching the park before trouble started was quickly squished as an ear splitting explosion could be seen, heard, and even felt from the top of the tower hotel. It was to his left along the throughway. Taking out his grapple gun he began to swing towards the epicenter of the action. As he did several other explosions and plenty of crowds running the other way could be seen. When he reached the fight he saw Boomstick at odds with an unknown.

The unknown held itself firmly even though he was standing in front of a barrel of TNT that went by the name Boomstick. Devin was familiar with her ability as was everyone who read the newspaper in New York. She had a habit of meaning well, but causing a massive amount of property damage. Her popularity with the public swayed greatly from week to week. Though the road workers union seemed to both love and hate her the most. Looking around Devin was sure the damage all around was caused by Boomstick; however, this quickly changed when he saw an energy blast hit the unknown.

The explosion was just as big as the reports had described, but even then it was hard not to shield yourself even from where Devin was perched. Even more difficult to comprehend was how the unknown was nearly unfazed. Save for a half step backwards the young man seemed completely fine. Though his clothes could use some of that indestructability. Devin made a mental note to brace his fists if things came to blows. He felt this was a pointless thought as the situation had clearly already come to blows.
Devin Royal (Vitruvian Man) - Secret Base of Leon & Vetruvian - Enteracting with L.I.S.A.

Devin found himself uneasy over how quickly he got comfortable in the large room. Even when the lights hadn’t turned on he swiftly walked across and found the chair set in front of the massive screen. When he sat down the room seemed to jump awake with the screen turning on. A moment later there was a calendar on screen and events being highlighted. Several involving the company known as STAR Labs.

“Enough L.I.S.A.” Devin said in an angry tone of voice. “I didn’t come down here to humor whatever notion you have of me putting on that costume again. If you have information on a crime you were ordered to forward the information to the police anonymously.” Devin started to stand up in frustration. He was angry for several reasons, the foremost being that he hadn’t stepped foot in this base in years . The other reason being his distaste for talking to a computer with no body other than the hardware behind the screen.

“I am afraid that the police will be unable to assist in the apprehension of this organization. The police do not arrest their own.” Where a power play pause would normally have helped bring home the severity of this comment computer AIs don’t have the personality to add them. As such LISA simply continued. “The targets have over an 70 percent chance of being at or around the age of minors.”

Devin wasn’t so emotional to let this fact be brushed aside. He turned back to the screen and began to study the events and information that was displayed on the screen. It showed massive sums of money being moved along with questionable employment records. Even a few crimes coinciding with missing evidence. It was very similar to something Devin and countless others in the detective world had seen. It was a cover up.

“Why reach out to me now?” Devin inquired. “It has been nearly a two years since you reached out with your creepy coded emails. You have evidence dating back almost 9 months. You wait until now to let me know a government funded program has begun to hunt down those with powers?” the entire conversation had switched from an inquisition to a straight forward conversation. Even if he wasn’t aware of it Devin had seemingly returned.

“To come at this enemy in the early stages would be unwise.” LISA stated. “If squished early it will only be rebooted with more fever and drive. Your father was the one who helped establish this practice. You keep them limited and when they act you make it public.”

“So they are in motion?” Devin had a level of worry in his words. “How can you tell?” He moved along the side of the wall and pulled a tool hanging from the wall. A hidden drawer opened next to the lever revealing the Vitruvian costume. While he began to put it on he listened to LISA explain her reasoning.

A helicopter I have been tracking has no recorded flight plan, but has been traveling in restricted airspace leads me to conclude they are enacting some sort of maneuver. It could be something else; however, since there is no data trail I am blind to its purpose. That is why I called you.”

With his outfit and tools fitted Devin caught a glimpse of himself in a reflective piece of metal. The weight of what he saw hit him like a ten ton punch. Sadly his armor was useless to this type of attack. A wave of memories started to bombard his thoughts and surely enough he felt his hands start to shake. He was unstable, unfocused, and unprepared. Even one of those prefixes could spell disaster for him and he was charging ahead with three firmly attached to him.

“The likely target is known as Boomstick.” LISA said. Her volume had gone up. Perhaps in an attempt to center Devin before he left the bunker. “Last known location is Central Park. Estimated destination is a bus stop five minutes away. Should take you no more than ten minutes to reach. The subway line will be here in two minutes.” The last bit was a giddy up from LISA that Devin followed. The roof of the garage started to open exposing the railtracks just above the garage building.

Using his grapple gun he waited till he heard the screech of the subway brakes and then fired. The line shoot upward and the claw clamped down on the metal tube. Quickly as he fired his own body lurched upward as Devin was pulled along. A quick pull of the trigger again had the line retracking and with a somewhat awkward rolling move Devin was on top of the subway train heading towards downtown New York.

“Good luck” LISA said over their earpiece communication.
Name: Devin Leon Royals

Former Alias: Vitruvian

Height: 5’11”

Age: 20

Gender: Male

Personality
Serious with a focus on security and peaceful living would best describe Devin. He is extremely thorough, responsible, and dependable when dealing with issues involving himself and those around him. Devin exercises a well-developed power of concentration and he is often interested in supporting and promoting traditions and establishments. Well-organized and hardworking, he has been known to constantly be working steadily towards an identified goal.

History/Backstory
Born as the younger of two Devin had a somewhat normal upbringing. His mother was loving and his father a little childish, but in the good way. He bickered and fought with his older sister, but through all that there was a strong amount of love between the two siblings. His schools were public; however, they were also known to be the best in the school districts. The reason one would not label his upbringing as completely normal is because of his dad.

Leon Sean Royals was an unknown genius inventor for a massive pharmaceutical company. It was a company owned by a company under another company that was likely owned by an even larger company. Either way he was sort of a big fish in a little pond. His childish nature was cultivated and nurtured at work that tasked him with assorted designs and given instructions to advance or alter the technology.

As the years went by Sean became aware that there had been a steady shift in his work towards things beyond the normal scope. He was starting to be tasked with looking into equipment belonging to some famous crime fighters. At first he enjoyed the idea that he was working for a company that helped supply the many great heroes with their tools of the trade. It wasn’t until he started to make his own tools that he quickly realized he wasn’t helping the good guys. Instead he was arming the bad guys.

Sean knew that going to the police would put his family in danger so he tried to find a way to contact the heroes of the Justice League. His warnings and messages were all black balled and fell on silent ears. Finally as a last resort the man dawned his own secret identity called Da Vinci, in an attempt to possibly favor the direct attention of the league. Instead he was met with his own inventions by several villains. He was wounded and only survived by reaching his home where Devin found his dad nearly dead in the garage.

A hospital stay and some rehab allowed Sean to tell his son what he had learned. Together the two were able to devise their own plan and when all was said and done the two had succeeded in taking down Sean’s employers. After that day the two continued to work together to take down crime groups in their community. Mostly sticking to organized crime with a few villains and anti-hero groups learning their names the two had a nearly yearlong run before disaster struck. On a nightly patrol Sean and Devin caught a diamond exchange robbery in progress over the police radio.

They came ready to help only to be caught in an ambush set up by the Triads. Armed with highly advanced weapons Sean had to make the ultimate sacrifice to save his son. Devin was able to escape, but had to leave his father behind. After that night Devin hunted the weapons down and nearly purged the entire city of their suppliers. When everyone involved was in jail he sealed his father’s secret room under the family garage and has never taken up his alternate identity again. The death of Sean rocked the entire Royal family. Devin told everyone that he didn’t know that his dad was the hero called Da Vinci.

While the press believed Devin could be Da Vinci sidekick he led a life that quickly became boring making the press and everyone else lose interest in the hunt for Da Vinci’s sidekick. Over time many new secret heroes became the headline grabbers and Devin and his families tragedy faded from public memory. For the family itself the wound is still healing.

Equipment
Devin carries with him a wide variety of tools invented and modified by his father including, among other things
  • Advanced Combat Gauntlets

  • Throwing Knives

  • Modern Compact Crossbow

  • Grapple Gun

  • Cryptographic Sequencer

  • Gas Pellets

  • Explosive Gel

  • Tracers

  • Taser

  • Sonic Devastator

  • C.O.U.N.C.I.L. (An advanced computer AI that originally assisted Devin’s dad at work but had also become a reliable cohort in finding, fighting, and preventing crime. Devin has grown to call it JESTER for its complete inability to tell a joke; however it was the only one who was able to stop his dad from doing something.)

    Powers/Abilities
    Advanced Close Quarters Combat Experience
    Midrange Computer Hacking

Additional Info: Devin never had to defend his costume as the popular games Assassins Creed admitted they took his hero outfit and used it as a blueprint for their video game characters clothes. When asked if they thought it wise to make the outfit synonymous with assassins the gaming company replied with a no comment.

Swell deal. I will PM you now.
I am very interested. I am using a broken keyboard at the moment but will be getting a replacement later today. For now please understand that my question mark key is broken and renders me unable to pose a question. That said I have a few questions!

    A) Will original characters be allowed or are you requesting that everyone take on a character already crafted by DC

    B) You said we will have little or no contact with the Justice League. Are they off world on a mission or are they missing

    C) At the start of this role play will all our characters know each other personally or just professionally while someone rallies us together like Robin did in the last Teen Titans comic series

I have a character idea in mind for this; however it only works if we are allowing original characters as well as the ability to add a few things to the DC world. All the same I am really interested and would love to be a part of this role play.
