Current The security camera going off in the middle of the night scared me awake last night. Good times!

My therapist mentioned referring me to a psychiatrist for anxiety medication, then at the next appt. said it wasn't a good idea as it doesn't the issue. I would've loved the temporary relief though...

Started calisthenics today; not to lose weight, but to get toned and get a little stronger. It's a 5x/week type deal ChatGPT drew out for me, but my snap, crackle, pop knees sure do love to complain..

@Xandrya You know most of the vendors I've seen in our local mall speak Russian as their native language. I never thought of using a foreign language, but I don't think Russian would be my go to language.

Try Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, or French The last two I can speak okay, and obviously Spanish is my main chick so if you want beyond the basics lemme know.
I'm not fond of those vendors at the mall who relentlessly insist you buy their stuff, and in the past, I've had to fend off some pretty aggressive salespeople. Well, not today. One of them said "Hi" with a smile like always, and I returned the greeting because I'm polite. Well, he tried to hand me something and I said "No, thanks" in Russian and he didn't say another word as I walked away victorious. I would have used Spanish but that's like everyone's first language here.

So that's a little tip for y'all as well :)

I have a friend who lived in South Africa. I told her one day, I would love to go to Africa sometime; check out SA, the pyramids and maybe a few other sites. She said to me, "There is absolutely no reason for you to go to Africa. It is the most dangerous place on the planet."

I've been to South Africa as well; it was a quick stop on a different deployment. But Durban (city in SA) was much better in comparison. And we blended with some of the population, especially my dirty-blonde, pale self. Some areas you could confuse it for any other modern city, but go a block away and you'll be in the slums.
When I was but a wee lass in the Navy, myself and my team were being driven in a bus to Camp Lemonnier (Eastern Africa). On the way there, we passed a local whom I made eye contact with as the bus had stopped due to traffic. The man then proceeded to make a gesture as if he were shooting up the bus with a rifle. Even though the bus started moving again shortly after that, his actions left quite the impression on me for the rest of the ride given that it was my first deployment and my first time on site.
Every now and then I can't help but feel like it's me vs. the world, like I don't belong to any one specific group type and I'm a one-woman army. I've gone out alone plenty of times in the past and it's become easier to enjoy my own company, which is funny because I'm a social butterfly.
I always think I can beat a Long Island. Spoiler alert: I can't. 🥴
Got into an argument with a lady who rudely demanded my father move his car as her daughter was soon arriving. We both reiterated that 1. there was enough space for her daughter to park right in front of her house and 2. the city owns the curb so she can't demand a single thing. The lady kept repeating herself like a broken record and my father whispered "just drop it" and moved his car around the block. But I didn't listen. I kept arguing with the lady, called her names, and was ready to fight her if she came at me, but she went inside her house right before my father walked around the corner. The nerve...

why? In the winter, we keep our thermostat in the 60s...heat. (New England)

Well that's excellent weather to sleep in, but given that I live on a busy street I can't open my window because the traffic noise will make me up due to me being a light sleeper.
It was what, maybe in the 60s outside overnight? Had the AC running also as usual. I wore a very light sweater, pajama pants, and my ultra thick fleece bathrobe to bed. To add, I covered myself with a blanket, fleece cover, and one of those throw blankets I received when I donated blood.

Today, did I wake up covered in sweat? You beat I didn't. I actually woke up like they do in commercials, all warm and toasty and feeling like you've been sleeping on a fluffy cloud. I chalk it up to being tortured just over 13 years ago in basic training when they would make us wake up in the middle of the freezing night to shovel snow around the buildings. That Chicago wind is no joke, and my body still remembers.
