Rather than him having been abused... how about his father being a bit of a duality? Both beating and loving his mother, but never even considering abusing the son? Its not at all impossible for someone to abuse someone they love deeply.

As for limits to weaken the relic:
The size of animal thing would be a good one. Controlling a couple or rabbits should be far easier than say, controlling a beast the size of a dragon.

You could also play with the idea of herd animals being slightly easier than pack animals, which in turn is easier than lone animals. And perhaps carnivores being harder than herbivores. directing a herd of cattle might be possible despite the large numbers, whereas controlling a pack of wolves can be somewhat of a challenge. controlling more than one bird of prey (like an eagle) might be almost impossible.

Also, in time you could have his ability to control/influence animals improve.

Another flaw you could experiment with is focus. If he's focusing on the animals, he probably can't focus as well on himself. The more strenuous the controlling is, the less he can focus on his own acts. Controlling too many could perhaps trigger unconsciousness? And he'd probably need protection when he's directing animals. especially if its in a combat situation.

I do have to disagree with you on that one, as there are more relics that have to be charged in an ineffective way or have some odd "disorders" (take for example Shin's mask; designed for sneakyness yet it gives off a bright light) a few possible explainations for this could be:
- The Collar was designed for slave-evokers in the Old Kingdom; while they were allowed to gain powers, they had aweful restrictions like this that reminded them of their place and functioned as an effective restruction for their powers as well.
- It could simply be a flaw that wasn't intended to be this way. I can imagine that as with all crafts, not all products end up being the way they were intended, especially not if they weren't created by a master. Ren's relic could be such a relic that somehow managed to survive.

Either of these theories could be possible, I think, but the point is that I find his flaw quite possible. If any of you still have some good arguments or simply don't agree with my little theories, I'll be glad to hear from you. Also, excuses for my late response Ellri and Athan, uni has been killing me lately x_x

Alida you're so smart. I would have never thought of that.

I really like the lore right now, Ellri, but I'll get to work changing it. And I would seriously love to keep the choking aspect of the collar. But yea I can change that as well. The suggestions from you and Fallen are nice.

We can also see a way he could feasibly bypass the whole choking issue... Metal tube inside respiratory tract. It'll be uncomfortable, but it would avoid death from asphyxiation.

We're working on a basic map of amaryth. It's unfortunately not quite ready for upload, but we should be able to get it done by tomorrow. Digitalizing and cleaning it up took longer than expected. Mostly due to size and level of cleanup.

Awesome Ell! I'm currently working on a post to let you all know more about where what's going on in the festival (I'll also introduce three NPC's, more about them later), but I'm currently burried in schoolwork so it might take a while.

Ok, we got a bit of a task for you players... Right now, most characters are far from each other. That is slowing the RP down quite a lot.

What we need to get done is for everyone to gather up at one or two places in Amaryth. That way events can get moving.

We're suggesting something like that Kalesian Embassy & the tavern "the gutted Karak", but thats just a suggestion. We're pretty sure that Alida will have the tournament stuff ready soon, so perhaps the tavern can be discarded in favor of that. For a while at least we know at least one character is kinda stuck in the embassy.
Hmm... thats what we forgot on the map... some sort of Arena. Maybe that'll be part of one of the City barracks?

Or it could be near the palace? Oh, I also think some sort of central marketplace would be a good idea. But thanks for the awesome map Ell, that's quite helpful ^_^

The largest courtyard could be a sort of small tournament, or it could be on a field outside the city walls.
