@em
Can I just ask how anyone at all knows anything about Adamar under his robes? I fail to understand how the information of him being an undead creature got out. I don't know how familiar you are with roleplaying (I'd like to assume at least a bit, since you write very well), but I'd like to ask that you don't take liberties regarding other people's characters. Being a lich is very obviously a closely guarded secret by Adamar. Nobody knows about it.

In the interest of the above concern, I also ask you to edit your previous in-character posts to reflect the lack of knowledge people have regarding Adamar's race.

Would it be possible for me to mention that he smells like a dead body? My character wouldn't know he's a Lich, but would assume he's either recently looted a corpse without washing or that he's a necromancer, then ask him about it while trying to be as nice as possible about it. She'd also explain that, as long as you came by all of your "supplies" legally and take responsibility for the actions of your thralls, no one around these parts cares if you are one. She'll mention that the old man at the farm uses a skeletal horse to plow with, but can't animate it for more than three or four hours because he doesn't have much skill with necromancy.

Obviously the fat guy was a Cleric of the Order of Fab'stard and could spot the undead with his own holy powers. The whole reason he walked away from the party was that he couldn't stand being in the same room as the undead monster (his words, not mine.)

That's not the problem. The problem is that @em is assuming things about other characters. I suppose its not bothering anyone else because mine is the only character where such information is critical. But it's still something that people shouldn't do.

I wouldn't say that he smells rotten. But the air of mystery he carries can easily prompt questions. As for how he does his work? You'll have to find out in character, heheh.

Maybe Adamar can help out with that while he's staying at the farm? Teach the farmer a more powerful incantation, or provide him with some alchemical supplies with which to bind the horse more permanently perhaps?

Just because you're a mystically animated skeleton doesn't mean you can't do a few good deeds while passing through. :)

@Light

Apologies for the misunderstanding. I was under the impression from your biography that his status as a lich was obvious, since it's so integral to his backstory and it's never explicitly stated that it's a secret.

I realize Adamar himself never mentioned it, though. I'll remove references to his lich-ness and replace it with an air of mystery.

His existence as an undead was common knowledge in his home plane, but not here in Mym.

There's a word for using things your character shouldn't know, but I don't remember it. Power-playing maybe? I don't see it much, though.

I'll just have her ask if he's from another world or land on Mym, since he doesn't act or dress like people in the area normally do. The skeletal horse thing will be a story she tells the adventurers, kind of like a ghost story. "You know the old man that runs this farm? He likes to animate his dead animals, sometimes. Sleep lightly, or you might wake up with a skeletal dog humping your leg."

Meta-gaming

It's a bit tricky sometimes knowing what information your character should or shouldn't know. The simple rule is that if no-one has mentioned it to them directly then they don't know it, unless they would've been able to learn it at some time in the past through reasonable means.

For instance, Kismet's abilities let her know something odd was under Adamar's robes, but since she's never encountered a lich before (at least no reasonable opportunity to have met one was mentioned in her bio) then all she can say is that he feels wrong in some way. However if at some point in the past she had encountered a lich she could've gone "This feeling reminds me of that time. He must be a Lich, or something similar."

Having a random stranger blurting out unknown information is a little bit of a cheat, especially as no details as to who he was or how he could've discovered the information wasn't presented.

"...Sleep lightly, or you might wake up with a skeletal dog humping your leg."

...I should be so lucky...

meta-gaming, that's the word. Thanks. I just knew it was one of the things most GMs list at the beginning of an RP as against the rules.

I like this idea! Constructive necromancy had never occurred to me before this. This sounds like a neat side quest.

I know. It's clear in Adamar's bio. I just didn't realize it wasn't obvious. Either way, I'm changing it right now.

Don't worry about it! It's a fun character, I can understand why you're keen to keep things directed. Sorry about the misunderstanding.

It's a bit like using robots in factories. Except instead of using metal and wires, necromancers use bones and... whatever else necromancers use (Kis's a ranger, not a magic-user, so I don't need to know about undeathly reagents.)

Both still involve binding the living souls of the damned into unresting bodies though. :p

I thought the entire point of having sweet,. innocent characters was seeing how much you could corrupt them by the end of the adventure. I'm sure Kis could help stitch together a nice little leather outfit for her once she embraces the dark side.

But corrupted characters always wear leather outfits, that's how you can tell them apart from the 'pure' characters.

Need a little more time to pass before Kis can make it to the farm. Hope she doesn't run into too many Random Encounter rolls on her way there. :p
