Guards. Again. The guards have been increasing their patrols at night. Mostly cause of us. The sewer rats of the town. The lowly and filthy. Well, we're not all that filthy. It helps when you can steal your month's rent from your owner and pay him earlier than scheduled with a bonus to 'help his cause'. That's what we're about. Doing whatever it takes to get by. Sometimes we do very well and have luxuries, but alas, we can't take everything without being noticed. So, we take what we can and make enough to live a nice life. Not the penthouse apartment, but between us we can pay the bill for it. We're just a step above common thieves. Just scoundrel who have nothing better we can do but steal to pay for things. Or just steal things directly. We only have one rule, though: no killing. EVER.
We've had our eye on this crown jewel that was brought into town the other day. It had an ocean blue aura to it, and it must have cost a fortune. That's why we want it. It could set each of us up individually for life from selling that thing at the black market. Only problem is, it's being put in the highest security place: the Wizard's Manor. We tried breaking in, but it's like the place has its own force field and anti-theft walls. We can't crack it.
Now, thieves exist all over, and in many different types, so there won't be just the D&D-Rogue-Thief. There are bards and conversationalists who chat up guards and others for information. Sometimes luring guards away to chat. There are the techie thiefs who can make an electrical thing buzz, stealing a guard's attention. There are the bow and arrow users who prefer who use water, rope, and blunt arrows to move guards from their posts. The last example would be a typical shadow: never seen, never heard, but is usually the sticky fingers who usually snags the actual item of most importance. Or robs the house. Whichever works.
