Maeve never grew close with her mother. She helped her out as best as she could because that is what the eldest daughter did, and when her mother fell ill, she nursed her as best as she could. While Maeve does suppose that her mother loved her, she never truly loved her mother back. Everything she did for her was out of duty and obligation. She never really knew her.

The man wasn't of much use before he spiraled into alcoholism, and it wasn't like that helped the situation at all. Maeve could hardly care what happens to her father now, and she hasn't seen or heard from the man in nearly a decade. To Maeve, being blood isn't enough to warrant her respect, and all her father's ever done has resulted in giving her a bad opinion of him.

Her younger brothers, the pair of them are off in Ireland, aspiring to be resistance fighters. Growing up, Maeve did her best to help raise them, and she's proud of the men they've become. They come to visit Maeve in Dublin every now and then, and they're good to Roisin, even if they don't know a word of sign language.

Her youngest sibling and only sister, Niamh currently works as a maid. She's engaged to a soldier, and as much as Maeve doesn't care for British soldiers, her sister's fiancé is a good one in her book. In many ways, Roisin reminds her a lot of Niamh. Her sister was always an odd combination of practicaly and dreamy, knowing that she needed to work hard but also dreaming of a fairytale ending.

Ciaran was Maeve's husband, and a long time ago, the pair of them were passionately in love. The lust turned into a purer love after a few years, with the marriage continuing only in a legal sense. They remained close friends, the best of friends, but realized that they truly weren't anything more than that. She misses him dearly, but time heals all wounds.

Maeve adores her daughter. Roisin may be deaf, but she finds the little girl is more perceptive than most. She wants to give her the world, to allow Roisin to live life to the fullest. The girl is funny and curious, as well as incredibly intelligent. She's the first girl in the Ridgeway line to learn to read and write, and while Maeve can't decipher the marks on the page herself, she can't be more proud of her.

Seamus's more closed off than most, but that is normal for the eldest in the Brennan gang. He tends to keep his emotions bottled up, going into fits of deadly rage only in the most dire of circumstances. But loyal and honorable, he has proven to be a good friend to Maeve. Of the Brennan brothers, Seamus is definitely her favorite. Without him, Roisin and Maeve would be on the street, begging for scraps.

The other woman who married into the Brennan family, Mary-Clare has been a blessing to Maeve. She helped her to find her feet and welcomed her into her home when Ciaran died. Mary-Clare is amazing with Roisin, helping the girl to communicate, and she isn't a damsel in distress either. Tough as nails, Mary-Clare is the twin sister Maeve never had in many ways. They're equals with the others in the gang, even despite their sex.

The most eccentric in the Brennan gang, Maeve has always found him a little odd. The man should have gone into science rather than stay in the family business, and he's always tinkering with one thing or the other. He's the one who taught Roisin to read and write, and Maeve is incredibly grateful for that. He feels like a goofy, odd little brother to her.
