i saw this on another site and i wanted to start one here. basically you post some information about yourself here if you would like to be *adopted* and if another user on here wants to adopt you they will say so and whala! you get a *daddy* or *mommy* :3 (and no for dum people out there ure not really adopting them >.> just helps members here form family groups here~)

I've never heard of this sort of thing. There's probably some "mentor" system to be found in your idea.

Actually it Was an idea that was used on teh old site, people had RPG families but i thought it might be a nice idea to have a page where this idea could be openly discussed.

Interesting. I suppose it could re-emerge once we get basic social tools back like groups. After all, that was completely user driven.

This is interesting. Even as a more experienced rper and having been around rpg for over a year, I still don't really know anyone here so it makes tracking down rps and having a modicum of consistency hard. Of course, my usual shyness is more than a little at fault. All the same. Superniftyidea is super nifty.

Kind of cringe worthy, but if you like it you like it.
The actual "mommy" and "daddy" thing is a little silly, I'll admit, but I think the basic idea behind it is pretty nice.

One of the first forums I roleplayed on had a mentor system.
I was 13 or 14 and I remember getting a lot of help from my mentor. They became a good friend for the rest of my stay on that forum. It motivated me to mentor others.
It was a positive experience and something I'd love to recreate, but i'm not sure how.

A forum I was on before had a similar thing, and it was actually called The Adoption Centre. I got taken on really early, and it does actually help a bunch for someone that doesn't know shit about forum etiquette or how to not seem like you're a deranged 12 year old.
I think this is something that could be quite useful, but Mahz is right, it'd be a hard system to incorporate without seeming too childish. That, and I mean, isn't this what the intro forum should be used for? People come into the intro threads and offer to answer any questions, but people never really seem to ask from there.

I think it's what the intro forum should be used for, but I remember on mine I got an answer from maybe one person? The only thing they really answered was locations of certain site features. There wasn't really any help finding or working on roleplays or people to play with. That's just my experience though.

My old forum also had a mentor system though it failed almost immediately upon launch due to lack of participation and interest.
I do think that it is an excellent idea to have something like that to teach internet etiquette and roleplaying basics however. I just think it would require a different approach, you would need a sticky thread in the introduction section and actual interest by members to support and keep such a system running.
While I don't really approve of how quickly this thread turned to petty insults towards gothpuppy for bringing up a simple idea, I do agree that this is a rather faulty idea. I think if it was on a larger scale and taken from a different angle however, it would perhaps work.
