There is always the possibility, I am just not sure if Hael will truly want one.

Updated my history section.

Also, I'm looking to start a space opera for inspiration. Right now I'm working through Blindsight by Peter Watts, but since I'm on a sci-fi stint at the moment and due to this RP I thought I'd continue.

Has anybody, by chance read:
  • The Gap Series by Stephen Donaldson
  • Revelation Space by Alistair Reynolds
  • Golden Age by John C. Wright
  • Culture Series by Ian M. Banks
  • Zones of Thought by Vernor Vinge

have tried to read Peter F. Hamilton's series but I'm sorry reading about characters named fucking Wilson or Bob in a god damn sci-fi novel dulls the imagination---it's SCI-FI think of some better names for fuck sakes

Now you can! :D

I would personally recommend Blindsight, it's pretty batshit but kind of awesome. Haven't gotten to the end yet but so far it's been a wild ride

I've read all except Revelation Space by Alistair Reynolds.

Been meaning to do it, as I've heard from a couple of friends it's quite interesting.

@babbysama I personally would say Zones of Thought. It gave me quite the insight into a frame of mind I've yet to explore very much.

I do want to point out that two of the main characters in Star Wars were named "Luke" and "Ben," and in Star Trek we have "James" as the original captain.

I'm assuming it was more than the names that turned you off? I haven't actually read Hamilton's stuff. I haven't read much sci-fi, actually. I read a lot of fantasy but get my sci-fi from vidya games, largely.

(Though I did read some books by the guy that basically invented the Spess Marine via Starship Troopers. His books are actually super interesting.)

@Hael Totally going to doubt your leader somehow, at sometime.

THEY ARE THE GREATEST LEADER POSSIBLE WITH TODAY'S TECHNOLOGY

<Snipped quote by Hael>

You could call him 'the Quintessence' or something.

Ehhh... I like the meaning, but I don't like the sound of it.

<Snipped quote by TheSovereignGrave>

It doesn't have to be super creative to be a good title, though. I like it.

<Snipped quote by Hael>

The words that immediately come to my mind...

Manifest
Pure/Purity
Will
Master

Turning these into a word or phrase that conveys the idea you had might be a start. I like Conjoiner myself.

EDIT: Actually, Quintessence is REALLY GOOD, Grave.

Those are pretty interesting, thanks.

<Snipped quote by Hael>

The word "Primarch" comes to mind

You could also mess with the spelling of words like Divinitus from Divine

Sounds like the word "Gospel" or "Prophet" or "Messiah" rings to me even tho they aren't religious.

The Xim are agnostics, but they have a spiritual theme to them at times. Some even meditate.

@Shorticus
Their version of antipersonnel weapons are massive (yet-unnamed) bombs used to scorch significant percentages of a planet.

War with or among my Collective is something quite unlike what you would expect from literally every other species, at the least the X'cor have use for slaves. The mats do not.

So... just complete genocide?

Holy shit.

I'm with Shorticus on this one, kill it with fire

Hello there good people of this most interesting roleplay. I'd like to express my explicit interest, and also my desire to grab that delicious co-GM spot.

Sorry, but I'd prefer just one co-GM.

I probably need to update that OP

But welcome aboard!

so we using chatzy or what?

As I've said, we aren't.

I do hope there's the possibility for them.

You can use a chatroom if you want, but I'm not setting up an official chatroom for the RP, because I feel it is unnecessary and disorganized. If you want to use one its fine, but I'm never once going to be on it, nor will I ever encourage anyone to use it

I've decided to name the Xim leader "Incarnate"

@Shorticus You do have a point, you know...

I do enjoy the Ender Saga and the protagonist's last name is Wiggins and there's a race of aliens called the piggies.

I just think Hamilton's schtick was just kind of "Space Captain Wilson Heimer" or whatever with a lot of slang that just kind of took me out of it. Also, glacial pacing, at least in the Commonwealth. GLACIAL.

I think it is only logical for human characters to have human names, because unless our whole culture is consumed by another, we're not going to start naming our children any different because we know aliens and fly spaceships. The only exception might be if the alien society absorbed human society entirely, and we started calling ourselves by alien names to blend in with their culture. If that didn't happen, we have no reason to change our names. I'm not going to name my kid "Bleezorp the Third" because we made contact with aliens- her name will still be human, most likely.

@Hael I suppose you right. Maybe I'm just not all into the space mariney-Murrica thing that Hamilton had going. I think they should still have human names...but...like, they couldn't think of something better than Bob? I dunno, I guess it's just a personal thing haha, but it's also related heavily to tone. Blindsight has a couple Bob and Bill like names, but it's quite mind-expanding, and the Ender Saga is really mystical.

I'm probably just a nitpicker lol, ignore it ignore it.
