@Dusksong Ooh, yes, I could write Ella's Inkay losing a bunch of CP each turn. And yeah, now Leisy's a skilled trainer, she can use status and other non-damaging moves.

@luckyblackcat Hm well seeing as the battle section is not yet done, everything is kinda go-with-the-flow right now. Thus, there is no clear interpretation of status effects, so I'd just like to use them as an accessory. Losing a bunch of CP would be fun to write though, so that's your choice. At that point Leisy would be switching 'mons anyway xD

Embarrassing fact about the way I play Pokémon: I got into the anime around the same time as I did the games, and now I say all the Pokémon's names in the same pitches as their cries :P

@toadropes That's actually pretty cool, but what about the pokes that you don't know the cries for? Do you improvise, or?

But what about the Pokemon In the anime that don't say their names like Charizard? XD

@Dusksong I recognize the cries when they come out of the balls, and that's when I do them XD

@Silver Fox I say all the names regardless of whether they speak. Like Mantine goes like "GUOOOHHHHHHH" in the anime but I still say its name when it comes out of the ball in-game

@toadropes Ooo just realized that your Rotom was caught with a Great Ball. Since it's a middle-tier Poke and was caught with a Great Ball, it starts at lvl 10. (Balth & I had this discussion a while ago for Shanae's Lapras in which we figured that it'd be kinda dumb for a Poke that needs a stronger Pokeball to be the same level as a Wurmple)

@Dusksong Ok, so Leisy's Larvitar used Bite during the training match, which isn't a Rock or Ground move, but I'll accept it seeing as it was just an informal battle. I wonder if the "Pokemon can only use moves of their type" thing is one of the battle mechanics that's going to get reviewed anyway...

@luckyblackcat Ohhh Oooops that would be my fault ._. Um same as for your Ekans and the Shadow Sneak? But yeah, sorry about that -- I'm going to leave it, but it's definitely not correct xD Feel free to leave yours as well.

I seem to recall Larvitar being able to learn Bite. In fact, I know it can for a fact. So why is that an issue? Pokemon learn moves that don't match their typing all the time. Pound and Froakie, Scratch and Charmander, Dragon Claw, and Charizard.

It's in the rp rules that in match battles that Pokemon can only use moves of their type. Though Dusk said it was fine to use their other natural learned type moves outside of a competitive match between players

@zarkun We're currently going by pre-edit battle rules, and those rules say that Pokemon can only perform moves that match their typing during battles. These rules are currently negligible for informal battles (ie battles with npc pokes, etc) but for formal battles players should, technically, only order Pokemon to use moves that match their Pokemon's natural typing. Any move that doesn't match their typing should not be used (i made an exception of this -- two, actually -- when i cleared the usage of moves like growl since they don't technically do anything, and LuckyBlackCat accepted my usage of Larvitar's Bite up there^)

Does that all make sense?

In all honesty, no. Under what circumstances does that make any sense? I'm not normally one to argue with a GM about their rules, but that one just doesn't make sense. That would immediately eliminate variation in both strategy and approach, plus there are Pokemon that would never be able to overcome a type disadvantage. For example, Staraptor VS Onix. Staraptor can learn Close Combat, which allows it to overcome the fact that it would otherwise have no moves to deal damage to the Rock type.

Again, I'm not trying to cause trouble or sound like an ass hole, but I sincerely cannot agree with that.

@zarkun The system was mostly made to simplify battles so that they could be simply and easily carried out and monitored by the GM. This system will definitely change in the future (when the off-guild site launches in full and we move to a new thread), but as of right now this is how it goes.

If everyone's okay with it -- seeing how the rules surrounding battles currently aren't completed -- we could just open moves up to any move that a Pokemon can naturally learn (still measured in CP for power, just available typings open up). But the line will be drawn there -- no breeding moves, tms, etc, until things get settled with the site. Status effects and such will be up to the writer's discretion; any conflicts can be directed to me.

@luckyblackcat@toadropes@silver fox@lugubrious If you're all okay with that?
