Generations have passed since the Hero of Time rescued Princess Zelda and sealed Ganondorf within the Sacred Realm. The Hero of Time then departed from Hyrule and become a legend that every person and creature knew, in one form or another. One fateful day, however, the seal of the Seven Sages began to weaken for some reason. This, of course, then allowed Ganondorf to break free and make good on his old and forgotten promise to one day get his revenge on the descendants of those responsible for his imprisonment.. As darkness creeps across the land, the people pray for the Hero of Time to save them once again, but-- surprise, surprise... he doesn't appear.

And thus the citizens of Hyrule, unprepared and afraid, are forced to defend themselves against Ganondorf as he begins his siege. Without a hero, things appear bleak, but should a select few rise to the occasion-- perhaps Hyrule may be destined for a happier ending....

In the dark of the night, a woman's voice, heavenly and full of light, speaks to our unlikely heroes.... Could this be the voice of one of the goddesses answering the prayers of her people? It's unlikely very many people will believe you... and also possible that this voice is merely a figment of your imagination... but recent rumors of Ganondorf's return have got you thinking.

After nearly a month of vivid dreams and being told to attend the Hero of Time Festival in Kakariko Village-- and with the date fast approaching-- you're beginning to think that maybe it's worth a shot. A shot in the dark, perhaps, but still a shot. What's the worst that could happen, anyway? You pick up some free food samples at the festival? You become as legendary as the Hero of Time? For whatever reason, you decide to go.

Heya folks! I've currently got 2 open slots for this here Zelda roleplay that I just started. There's just a little over 30 posts in the IC so far. If you are at all interested in joining, please shoot me a PM or message me on Discord (Baklava#8096) about what sort of character you'd like to be BEFORE filling out the CS. Please make sure you check out the current cast of characters so you can get an idea of the races and personalities we already have. I don't mind having more than one race or personality in the group, but variety is always preferred. I'm more concerned with the races bit, though. There are a lot of different races in Zelda and I'm really being quite flexible with them (we've got a Poe, a Subrosian, a Skullkid, and a Twili-- just to give you an idea).

The premise may seem simple, but I'm really looking for people who are interested in character development, relationships (not just romantic ones), and will be willing to stick with the story for the long haul. As the GM, I can assure you I'll do my best, but I am always open to suggests or requests (i.e. character arcs, if you so desire).

Here's a link to the RP:

roleplayerguild.com/topics/154033/ooc

I can provide you with a brief summary of what's happened to help you jump in more quickly, but I would like for you to eventually get to reading those 30 posts if you plan on joining.

Feel free to ask me any general questions here! For everyone's benefit, y'know. And free bumps. (Please don't wonder into the OOC to ask questions. Ask them here or via the other two methods I mentioned.)

Adieu!

@BaklavaSo how do you feel about Ancient Robot as a playable race for this?

@jasonwolf Ancient Robots would require quite a bit of world twisting to make work. Ancient Robots need Ancient Flowers in order to function-- which would all be loooooong gone by the time we got to this timeline. The only way to possibly get them would be by using Timeshift Stones, which are incredibly rare.

Tell me more about the idea you have. How would you incorporate an Ancient Robot with the current place in the timeline?

@Baklava I do believe the ancient flower is only acting as an oil/lubricant, but you can decide whatever you wish for this of course. As well there is one ancient robot that functions without a time shift stone, it is in the temple under the goddess tower.

Well the most basic gist is prototyped ancient robot, in the LD-00 set not the 301 series. Going for a sort of iron giant character

It's name is Noi, a name it gives itself when he misreads No.1 on his blueprints. While future LD-00s would be made light using a skeletal design Noi is very bulky with a thick layer of armor over his frame. This greatly reduces his speed, but does grant him astounding durability. Other features added to future models like a highly detailed face and decorative armor were never created for Noi. His head is essentially a plate helmet welded onto a sensor array.

Noi is equipped with a large hammer intended for both defense of the worker robots and for assisting them with mining.

Noi is not the most complex of characters mentally while somewhat aware like most of the ancient robots he isn't a third as intelligent. He understands hylian and has a basic database of information on the world, but even then his actual intelligence is akin to a child. There is a general sense of morality given to him by the rules he has to obey in his programming.

As for how to fit him in. I think there is plenty of possibility for Noi to be slipped in without any crazy changes. Since the LD-00 robots don't seem to need maintenance he could be off functioning in some sort of long abandoned mine despite all others having broken down something akin to Wall-E. If you want maintenance to be required then I'd suggest Noi runs off something different that was rare then, but is more common now if thats possible, a sort of ironic twist the material was ignored because it would be so hard to get, and yet because it was so hard to get it now is comparatively plentiful.

@jasonwolf Hmm hmmm, alright. I can dig it. To keep his origin well out of the way and semi-consistent with Skyward Sword, let's say he's from some unknown location in the Haunted Wasteland.

I would also expect his database to be quite outdated-- acknowledging things that didn't exist back around the time he was first designed. I'm sure this goes without saying, but I would request not making any critically canon/plot relevant observations without clearing it by me first as well. (Such as remembering seeing the Hero of Time or Demise or anything like that.)

Also for consistency's sake, I would want for him to require some sort of oil for functioning. I'm open to ideas on that, but what about a certain type of peahat? Of the aggressive variety? The peahats in Skyward Sword are peaceful, but maybe an ancient flower and a peahat naturally grafted together without anyone realizing it and the result was an aggressive peahat. I'm thinking one peahat would produce enough oil for Noi to function for a solid two weeks or so. (We can say there are desert peahats. Whatevs.)

Just an idea. If you've got something better, feel free to suggest it.

@Dervish Hostility wouldn't be the greatest issue even then. Noi would be plenty tough enough to take one down. The issue I'm seeing is that Noi isn't exactly the fastest thing in the world. Then again perhaps if he could get a hookshot then he could pull things to him. A kind of reversal on how link is pulled along, but since Noi is heavy he pulls things to him.

@jasonwolf Could also be a case he could hurl big enough boulders at them. I mean, if we are going giant robot, Goron like strength is feasible.

@jasonwolf I would kind of prefer if you stayed away from the grayish/black tones. I like for the colors to make your character's text pop, and gray tends to have the opposite effect.

Feel free to work on a character sheet. PM it to me for review when finished and we should be gucci from there.

@Baklava Hello there, Baklava! Just out of curiosity i want to ask a couple or so questions about your RP if you don't mind. This idea for an RP sounds enticing, to be frank about it. :)

1. Would it be possible to create an OC who is a female or male Darknut not in the service of Ganondorf?

2. Would it be possible to make an OC who is a Stallos, more specifically a Stalmaster from Skyward Sword? If so, would it be possible to say he is one that existed from ancient days, but after the death of Demise began to wander the world after gaining the power to act, think, and do things on his own?

3. Would it be possible to make a female Twili?

4. Are any of the more unique races from Wind Waker, such as the Koroks and Rito, able to be somehow worked into this? Possibly not, but i feel it's worth the ask if nothing else.

@Holy Grail I'm afraid I'm gonna have to the answer your questions with some questions for now:

1. Did you look at the character roster first like I asked? That will answer some of your questions-- as well as the rules section of the OOC.

2. Are you sure you've got enough time to dedicate to an advanced RP? I think I heard you say you were dealing with some time constraints in Wisheater, right?

3. This RP requires a lot of free thinking. Are you down with that? How do you think a Rito would find their way into the current timeline? (That is, what did you have in mind?)

@Baklava No problem. Will try to answer your questions as best as i can!

1. Mmm, i did read over the rules and look over the character roster. Really, i was asking those things just to try to get a final, solid confirmation about what is acceptable or not. Perhaps it is a bit silly of me, but after one or two personal experiences of mine as a newbie with RP'ing years ago i have always made the habit of doing that "extra check" to make sure i don't have the wrong idea. XD

2. I think i was saying that mainly in regards to that i can only be on for a limited time during each day, if i am remembering correctly. If not that, however, i probably meant that in regards to the last few weeks which have been rather abnormally busy irl in multiple ways due to holidays.

In regards to being able to participate, though, after reading your rules the RP it seems to me like it could be fit in without any issues on my part. For example, i will never disappear for two weeks without saying something, not even being missing for a day really without saying something in advance to the GM or someone in charge unless a true emergency has come up. If nothing else i try to be prompt in my notices about not being able to be here, albeit i am only human as well. Still, i think i could take this RP on, also seeing as how the pacing for posts until this point from my perspective seems to be relaxed enough to work perfectly for my situation! :)

3. If you mean "free thinking" as in "you have to think of searching the wall to find the magic treasure chest", or "you have to make sure you OC is on their toes to not get killed by that trap in the middle of the floor" sort of things, or just generally not everything being said to you and you not being guided along by a plot, then i most definitely do not mind that at all! I was in an RP like unto that once a good time ago, and definitely enjoyed it once i got the idea! I get the sense of "deadly, dungeoncrawling RP" from what i have seen of your RP thus far in my own looking at it, and it would definitely be a fun adventure to try to be a part of in my mind!

As for the "Rito" bit, i thinking a theory along the lines of this: The castle where the master sword was enshrined in Wind Waker could be where the Temple of Time would have been in OOC. In a sense, the new "Hyrule Castle" in Wind Waker being built from the Temple of Time. With that in mind, the story could be perhaps that a Rito was flying over where Hyrule Castle was in Wind Waker, and was knocked unconcious by an attack by pirates while flying a message to another island. Sinking beneath the waves, the Rito eventually and fortunately fell into the time-frozen Hyrule Castle. Wandering about the time-stasis locked land, they make their way into Hyrule Castle and eventually into the chamber where the master sword lies in the Wind Waker timeline. Here they notice the blade and try to grab it, only for the magic holding the castle in stasis to go a bit awry and wild (since the Rito is not the hero meant to pull the sword) and launch them out of their timeline into the one of the RP. But if this idea doesn't work, i don't mind it at all. XD

@Holy Grail Well, I mostly asked if you'd looked at the roster because we already have a a few of the types of characters you're wanting to be. As I said, I'm looking for more diversity in my group-- race diversity, yes, but perhaps I should have been a little more specific.

The Darknut and Stalfos concepts kind of intersect with the Poe and Skullkid bit. Not in that they typically follow Ganondorf, but in that they are known for typically being enemies-- not heroes of Hyrule. Would rather not have anymore monsters. I can be persuaded, but it better be a really really damn good concept.

The female Twili question seemed like an odd one to ask since we already have a male Twili. So the answer would be yes in that I would allow it, but it's not what I'm looking for. Like... at all. I already have one remarkable Twili that technically shouldn't be there-- having two would be ludicrous.

Should jasonwolf ultimately decide to go through with joining with Nio, that would also give me two time-defying characters. Nio is obviously just a really old character, but still time-defying in a sense. The theory for getting your Rito to Hyrule seems pretty far fetched as well-- though, to be honest, I think just about any theory would be far fetched. It would take a lot of world twisting in order to make happen.

Most importantly, however, I really really really don't want to throw a character into the mix who can tell everyone "Hey! I'm from the future! Guess what? Saving Hyrule is useless because over half of the population is drowned in a huge flood after Ganondorf is revived!"

I'm a little concerned that this thought never occurred to you, actually. It's kind of an extremely pivotal part of my whole story. Any race or person from Wind Waker would really trample all over everything. Sure, you could say your character never learned about ancient well-known legends of the past, but I don't really want to go there. I've already got some pretty outlandish races, so I'm more looking for some races that don't require super special and specific events to make happen. I've already got quite a few of those. The male Twili being the most prime example.

I feel like there are so many diverse and cool races of Hyrule, I don't see why we have to shoot for the ones that will be the hardest to incorporate. Nor ones that are similar to what I've already got.

@Baklava Ah. Duly noted. My apologies for not getting that the first time when you noted about looking at the roster!

Will push the Stalfos and Darknut ideas to the side for now. Perhaps they could all be my sort of "last resort" ideas if i couldn't come up with something else, though it should be no problem at all to come up with a different idea or two for a character as well that will, hopefully, better meet your desires for the RP!

As for the Rito idea i put out there, i will respect your wishes and completely abandon the concept as a possible idea. Will also throw out the Twili idea as well. Did not mean to sound like i wanted to put in a "game-breaking OC" of some sort in there, as while the idea did actually occur to me that they could blow future details, i was at first somewhat thinking they could be amnesiac or not learned in history as you noted to avoid "historical spoilers" as you said. Still, i felt like throwing the idea out there in general to test the waters and see what is and is not acceptable at this point in regards to that, as it were! So no Wind Waker races!

So, with all of what you said in mind, there are about two or so other ideas for OC's i want to pitch, to see if they better meet what you want for the party of characters. So without further waiting, here are my ideas:

First Idea: A young, Hylian woman whose parents moved near the Gerudo Desert just shortly after she was born due to her father getting a job working on the bridge to the Gerudo Desert. It was here that her family was robbed one night by a Gerudo raiding party, who as a result of her parents fighting back ended up killing both of them. As a result, the young female Hylian baby was taken back by the Gerudo along with other plunder.

From here i believe this OC can take one of two alternate paths i thought about for their history:

1. They could be raised as a "regular" among the Gerudo and grow up being treated like one of the Gerudo, eventually learning of her Hylian heritage many years later by accident and ends up setting out on into Hyrule to try to discover her past, which event eventually leads to her having the dreams and such that bring her to where the rest of the party is in the graveyard. Down this path the OC could be a more combat-focused Gerudo-related character that differs from Veitaru in that sense.

She could be a skilled archer, horse rider, perhaps even be a dual-sword wielder and some Gerudo-esque combat skills and desert expertise and such to add to the team.

2. They could be taken back, only to be taken in by an older Gerudo mystic and magic user who, while not being at the level of the 400 year old witches (Twinrova) who raised Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time is still a strong magic user who acts as an elder to the tribe. It would be in this highly respected magic user's household that this Hylian girl would grow, being kept mainly to the house due to the disgust an amount of her "Gerudo sisters" would show to her as compared to the few who seemed to accept her as one of their own. Learning magic from her surrogate mother, eventually the Gerudo mystic/elder who raised her would die, and knowing that a portion of the tribe will still never accept her sets off to not only try to determine her own family history but also to see the world she had been shut out of in the past (before having dreams and meeting with the party of course) with supplies given to her by those who came to care for her and accept her among the tribe.

In this case (and my favorite of the two options here) the OC would have good and wizened desert expertise taught to her and trained into her by her surrogate Gerudo mother, magic skills that could either be utility-based magic (which could be useful considering some of the OC seems to have an amount of combat magic between them) or a mix of utility and combat magics to allow her to support in combat while also providing things like healing to make her a versatile character in the party in regards to magic. Further, she could have trained in the bow and perhaps a single weapon, if i were to justify her surrogate Gerudo mother calling in favors to get her trained in the use of a weapon like dual-sword or (not "and") the bow and arrow to help allow the girl to protect herself in the harsh desert the Gerudo live in. In fact, she could possibly know medicine in some part if her mother taught her as well, a thing that could come in handy to give her a "healing" sort of role if combined with her possessing magic.

Second Idea: A Goron (male as they all are of course) who is relatively young for his race at the age of 70 years old. His father was a skilled smith among the Gorons, but the OC himself was best suited to...explosions. As in, he was great with explosives and bombs, and learned how to make them rather well. While he enjoyed dabbling in explosives, he also learned to wield a large hammer in combat on top of the rolling and still somehow knowing where he's going that Gorons are known for. On top of the natural strength and toughness the Gorons are known for, he could be a good addition to the team for brute force and another OC who can deal with fire rather well. He would make his way into Hyrule out of curiosity to see what Hyruleans have learned about explosives and see if he could learn anything new to add to his hobby. After all, while he is a Goron he is an intelligent Goron who enjoys explosives but is not an idiot otherwise by any means. At the same time, during this trip he could begin to have dreams and move to go to the graveyard the dreams direct him to in order to see what is going on.

Third Idea: This one might be the most odd, but if it's rejected i will not argue. What about...a Minish OC?

They could be from a pocket of Minish that stayed when the door to the Minish world closed at the end of the Minish Cap came, desiring to live in and stay in Hyrule. Living in Hyrule's Castle Town through the centuries even after the forest some of their people once called home was lost, this group of Minish composed of all kinds of Minish who gathered there after their other homes were destroyed or changed over time by other events would have moved with the Hylians as they moved from place to place. The magic that kept them invisible to adults began to fade away and eventually disappeared over time as well, leading them to become more reclusive from Hylians and humans as a whole in order to help preserve their people over time.

The OC themselves would be a Minish who has learned magic from one of the last members of his kind to have been trained in and honed in the art of it. Rather than combat magic, this magic would take the form of general utility magic and especially a form of "size-altering magic" to allow them to alter the physical size of themselves, objects, and even other living things if the need arises. This "size-altering magic" could have originated among the Minish still remaining in Hyrule after the stumps they used to change size back during the time of Minish Cap were destroyed and became effectively nonexistent over time. Further, the OC could sport general utility, medicianal, or other support skills on top of some skills with a sword or other weapon in order to help them fight and not smiply be a hinderance to the group as a whole. However, they could play a support role as a whole for the party of characters, being educated and intelligent as well.

This OC could also be male or female, and after having dreams they use size-altering magic to grow to human-child size or such in order to set out on a journey to the graveyard. This is probably the strangest of my three ideas, perhaps the greatest stretch. Even so, i would hope this sounds more feasible than the time-defying and other hard ideas you mentioned before!

I am quite curious. I did read the Premise, but I would like to hear in your words what the goal of the RP is. Is it adventure, is it character development, is it to battle Ganondorf? I realize it would be a lot of things, but would we be setting out on a quest after being introduced to one another or are we all stuck in a situation where we now must work together, or are we like minded individuals who choose to fight Ganondorf?

Hey, @Baklava!

Been pondering about possible characters and I have read the character rosters to help with that. I am aware that there already is one Gerudo in it, but I figure I will pitch mine here considering there are some differences between the two. Which means that variety would be achieved even then. :P

So my Female Gerudo would have been born in the Gerudo Valley and raised within the tribe itself. This already is a departure from Veitaru, who was brought up outside of it, which influences her character in a manner of ways. My Gerudo would already be an adult, set in her ways -- which means she is an able warrior, but has no qualms about taking whatever she needs to help with the journey ahead, instead of having an annoying little voice at the back of her head, cheering her on to be 'good'.

She has no issue with socializing though and is quite capable of being friendly with the people around her, this may or may not be mostly an act. A role to help her and ease possible tensions that may arise. Very disciplined and stalwart when a dangerous situation arises, while being defined by her loyalty. Proof yourself worthy? And you have a friend for life.

As for why my Gerudo would be here, when the campaign is centered around Ganondorf and his possible return? I think it would be interesting to have a similar role as Nabooru, in that she knew that Ganon's ways only serve to poison their tribe and that he had to be stopped.

Maybe the whispers implied that their former 'God' and King was to return soon and she set out to stop that from happening for the betterment of the tribe? Just an idea.

I am quite easy, though, so if this doesn't fit your narrative and campaign I can either change things up, or come up with a different character concept.

Lemme know!

@Holy Grail Could you possibly narrow it down to the one idea you like most and we'll go from there?

@POOHEAD189 Uh, all three of those things, I guess? I thought the premise was pretty straightforward. You're a person/monster/whatever you are and you've been called to the Festival of Time by some voice in your head. I don't have any parameters for how enthusiastic about that your character has to be-- just that they get there. Then everyone is asked to meet in the graveyard where a fairy explains their mission, should they choose to accept it.

@Furia That sounds like it would fit quite well actually. While we do already have a Gerudo, Veitaru isn't really a "true" Gerudo in a sense. I wouldn't say all the Gerudo are happy about Ganondorf's potential return. It would make sense for Nabooru to have had some effect on her fellow Gerudo and I think some division on the topic would've been very likely. I'm assuming you already saw the blurb about the Gerudo:

Aveil is the leader of the Gerudo. Although many years have passed since Ganondorf’s defeat, tensions between the rest of Hyrule and the Gerudo tribe persist. They are still seen as thieves to many. The Gerudo continue to be very reclusive and do not take well to outsiders-- especially trespassers. The women themselves are usually never seen outside their fortress except to find short-term boyfriends, however, there has been talk of some abandoning their traditions and seeking better lives outside the fortress.

At something like the Festival of Time, I think seeing a Gerudo or two wandering around wouldn't be totally out of the question. If you're wanting her to have a Nabooru-like role, I could make that happen. Maybe even collab some interactions between your character and Aveil for future plot-related stuff. I would ask, however, that you double check with me before making any hard assumptions about the Gerudo and Gerudo Fortress (anything that could potentially meddle with the plot). Our resident Shiekah has had to do the same-- especially since the group is now entering the Shadow Temple. I'm almost always on Skype and Discord as well, so I'm available for quick question-answering.
