OOC

Modern setting in dark, gloomy city.
Occult and eldritch presence in the world.
Inspired by Lovecraft, Stranger Things, Bloodborne.
The genre is action-horror with a splice of mysticism.
Parallel dimension, monstrosities, black operations, cults.

P R E M I S E
Our world is connected to a parallel dimension we call the void. It is a cold and dark reflection of our reality wherein beings of nightmares reside. Every so often anomalies will appear around the world which allows things to pass between these two dimensions. If one is lucky, nothing happens and everyone remains ignorant. But, luck is a luxury that rarely presents itself. It is the sworn duty of those whom are aware of the void to keep it from spilling out into our world. They are not always successful, but they have so far done enough to prevent human extinction.

Knowledge of the void has been kept a secret throughout the ages. The idea of the void has been passed down through titles within major religions long before established governments assigned black operations as defense against and for void incursions. However, certain individuals in this world were exposed to the knowledge of the void against their will. While most of them fell to madness and committed suicide, some became what is known as 'Mystics'—people whom at a young age were physically transported to the void through an anomaly, miraculously found their way back, but brought something otherworldly with them.

Mystics have the ability to create their own void anomalies. This will to the plain eye appear as supernatural abilities, but is in reality a form of phasing between the two dimensions. While most Mystics learn common techniques, all of them have a unique signature ability. However, whenever they utilize their abilities, they draw the attention of void beings, which can use the anomalies created by Mystics to enter our dimension. There are also other consequences such as being trapped in the void while phasing. Nobody fully understands the rules that govern the void, so all forms of supernatural endeavors are discouraged.

The only concrete resistance towards void beings is black operation forces deployed by the government. The branch is known as 'The Division' and houses the best that the military can offer. They receive most of their Intel from paranormal surveillance. Sometimes they cooperate with Mystics and other religious types, but it is a rare occurrence. Most of what the void has to offer in terms of monstrosities can be vanquished with superior firepower. However, this is not always the case. Some creatures of the void are seemingly impervious to physical harm.

It has been predicted that an abnormally large anomaly is about to occur. It would allow for greater beings of the void to pass into our dimension. The last time it happened was at the beginning of the black plague in the fourteenth century. The disease is believed to have originated from the void. However, there is a better chance of stopping the anomaly this time. There are rumors of a young Mystic whose signature ability is obfuscation in the void. A team is assembled to search for the prodigy and stop the massive anomaly.

C H A R A C T E R S
There are a few options for characters in this roleplay. You can portray a Mystic, a member of The Division, some kind of cultist, or someone who is otherwise involved with the secret world. Either way, our characters are put into a team that will search for the prodigy Mystic who allegedly can use his or her abilities without attracting the attention of void beings. The goal thereafter is to stop the city-wide anomaly from happening

R U L E S
I have a few basic rules that you might want to know about right off the bat, as they can probably make or break your interest. The significant one is that I do not want collaborations in the roleplay. They consume a lot of time and alienate other players. The other one is activity. Total silence for ten consecutive days will result in the roleplay moving forward without you. Other than that, there is nothing major that I want to enforce.

Sounds like great fun, I would like to put my name forwards for this.

I would probably be playing as a Mystic, although would there be Mystics recruited into The Division? As a consultant, for example.

I'll be posting lore (when and if this takes off) which will sort of answer your question.

The Division is an anti-void operation, and Mystics are basically part of the void themselves, which in theory puts these factions against each other. However, they do cooperate if they bump into each other somewhere, but it isn't premeditated. It would also be rather difficult for a Mystic to pursue a military career, and then join The Division, for various reasons.

A cultist who worships the void and wants to see the world swallowed by it. Objective is to kill this "prodigy".
He usually spams mystic abilities as much as he can to allow creatures of the void passage through dimensions.

I will drop my interest here, as I am fairly certain I will be having an RP slot opening up soon.

Were you inspired at all by the MMO The Secret World, @Prisk?

Such a person could definitely exist, but I think the ones assembling the team would be more selective and careful. I'm also not too keen on a player whose character is present for the sake of disruption. There will be plenty of disruption from other sources.

Somewhat. The name is definitely from the game, and the idea of it all. But, I couldn't get into the casual feel of the atmosphere and lore.

Well, it had to be marketable, haha. There were some quests/areas that were definitely creepy and the in-game browser to do research for puzzles was such an ingenious move. I loved that! Excited to see what you can do with this idea. I've never RPed with you, but from the exclamations, you're definitely sought after.

I had quite a bit of fun with this concept in the past. I've a suitable character and such in mind. I'm in.

I tried to get into the game, but the gameplay itself was a bit clumsy and rigid for my taste. Ah, I'm not particularly good at roleplaying, but I try to do my best and provide people with some fun stuff and decent story.

Well, that sounds interesting! Great fan of Lovecraft here, and voicing my interest!
Also would there be room for a private Investigator? Hired for a third party to find out more about the void? Or an freelancing agent?

Lovecraft, eh? I've been binging on Darkest Dungeon lately, so I've had the mindset for a Lovecraftian themed RP. Coupled with having dabbled with the Secret World MMO many moons ago, even if inspiration is merely in name! I'm certainly thinking a Division member, on my end, maybe a demolitions expert who's solutions to the big nasties is heavy ordinance. And if that doesn't work? Even heavier ordinance. Not the most subtle figure, but sometimes subtlety isn't as needed as raw firepower.

Sure. A private investigator fits the narrative well. The team is essentially looking for a (missing) person, so there is a lot of investigating to be done.

That works. Maybe the character could be a bit of a tech-character in addition to demolitions? I some preconception that those two things go hand-in-hand.

That is good to hear! I would have hoped to go a lovecraftian way, of an private investigator, who worked close with a occultist scientist, specializing on people who went missing under "paranormal" circumstances.
Last run went poorly, and the Investigator ended up in an Asylum, rather on his own choice, then forced to do so.

I certainly don't see why not. Tech-savvy just makes the toys all the more fun then, sure as sure.

Yes, there is room. This isn't any kind of 'first-come, first-served'.
