What are y'all planning in terms of skills and abilities?

I was thinking about playing a sorcerer type.

@Zyshi please remove your application from the characters tab and submit it to the OOC for deliberation by the GMs. The Characters tab is for accepted sheets only. Thank you!

Wow guys. My PM inbox has never been busier and it’s great to see so many character applications up so rapidly. I’ll start working through and discussing all the characters submitted with Hillan this weekend, but until then here are a few discussion points and questions to pose to the players:

Which of the regions do you each find most interesting and enthralling, and which mysteries are you eager to unravel first?

Does anyone have any early theories about the source of the Blight?

When we begin the game, would you rather your characters were drawn to Vasilius and then sent out to begin their quest as a group? Or would you prefer a more individualistic approach, where each character pursued their own goals separately or in smaller partnerships?

I think for me it's Ferros and everything surrounding the Baron and his smith friend. I mean I named my character's ship after it. I'm also interested in the fires in Mornfell.

I'm fine with starting as a group or solo/smaller partnerships. I think my character idea, if accepted, may work better in a small partnership at first and then work toward the larger group.

All of the regions intrigue me but I sure do want to know what they've done with the prince!

Does anyone have any early theories about the source of the Blight?

Mages. It's usually mages. Blasted magic-wielders.

When we begin the game, would you rather your characters were drawn to Vasilius and then sent out to begin their quest as a group? Or would you prefer a more individualistic approach, where each character pursued their own goals separately or in smaller partnerships?

Honestly, whatever you'd prefer. I've just sorted out character concepts but we're leaving them vague enough to work into whatever plot hook you'd like us to adapt to.

@Roman I find that a more naturalist approach to forming a group always works better, letting people start individually and work their own ways together, crossing paths with each other. It feels more natural, and IMO is easier to do with as clear as the defined plot as the one you have.

In terms of area, Marshlands. AS per my PM to you.

════ D E T A I L E D A P P E A R A N C E ════

A towering mass of lean muscle and sinew, Úlfr is a prime specimen of the Mountainmen of Mournfell. Dressed in a raggedly garb composed of mail, plate, leather and fur, Úlfr's armor is kept light to allow for both movement in combat and aid his nomadic lifestyle.

Piercing icy eyes constantly scan Úlfr's surroundings, darting back and forth like a cornered animal. A golden mane of windswept hair hangs off his head, draping down to his shoulders. A well-kept beard adorns his chiselled jawline, braided in the traditional style of the Mountainborn.

═════ C H A R A C T E R S Y N O P S I S ═════
═════ C H A R A C T E R S Y N O P S I S ═════

Hailing from Mornfall-On-Mountainside, Úlfr attempted to uplift his family by participating in the trial of the Mountain-Brave. Scaling the mountain and living off what little the hostile environment provided, Úlfr survived to the top and managed to retrieve the flower and began his descent. Unfortunately, upon returning to the base of the mountain, the waters revealed the flower to be of the wrong colour and instead of ascending to the ranks of the Mountain-Brace, Úlfr was disgraced and branded as Mountain-Spurned.

Reduced to sub-human treatment within the walls of Mornfall, Úlfr chose to leave. Stealing the most basic of supplies, the Mountain-Spurned warrior set off to make his life outside the walls of Mornfall. Honing his talents over nearly two decades, Úlfr has become an accomplished sellsword, trading his talents for gold. Now with the panic of the Blight sweeping the kingdom, the opportunistic warrior has found yet another way to trade his talents for a pouch full of gold.

═══════ C H A R A C T E R G O A L S ═══════
═══════ C H A R A C T E R G O A L S ═══════

A cynical and jaded man, Úlfr is best described as an opportunist whose first and foremost goal is to look after himself. Life hasn't dealt him a kind hand, and so Úlfr has learned to prioritize himself above all else. To that end, the Mountain-Born sees the High Lord's call as little more than a means to an end, answering it solely to seek fame and fortune for himself.

As it comes to it, I'm finding myself very interested in the civil unrest of Eerum. I'm quite a big fan of political literature and there's an interesting possibility for that there. Vive la révolution and the like.

I agree with the sentiment of mages for the stone blight. It's always magic that messes shit up in places like this.

As for the placement situation, I think smaller groups would be fun but it also requires at least two characters per location, whereas we can start outright in the capital for the first act and always split later.

@Mao Mao Hillan and I discussed your sheet and both agreed that while the final concept - Sychan Tribal forcibly conscripted into the Wardens - is a great angle, we find the backstory a bit messy. To me personally, with the added context of the PMs, it feels like you approached me with a core concept, and then layered on top every suggestion I made in order to sort it for the game, and then you could play the original character regardless.

For instance, you came to me asking about hybrids, whereupon I suggested animal reverence, and then you've had your character and their tribe mistaken for hybrids in-universe anyway. Your backstory also feels contradictory at times; born as an orphan into the Wardens but brought up with knowledge of the tribe's culture anyway - the Elders (Khemrin elders?) being discovered but not punished - the original tribe approaching the Wardens for assimilation, but being first-generation Wardens?

We both agree that the core pillars of the character are great. Sychan Tribal, separate from Eerum? Great. Ex-Warden, blacklisted and exiled? Great. Rediscovered cultural heritage of animal worship, bringing a forgotten rival to the dominant religion of the Barbed Church? Great. All of these thrown into a cooking pot together without really straightening them out together, making the biography feel like your initial ideas with my PM suggestions layered haphazardly on top? Not so great.

There's a final-product-Gil here that's an excellent tribal making his way back into the world to save what remains of his lost culture, but it needs a bit of sanding and polish to make him really shine and clarify who he is and what he's striving for. Some streamlining would go a long way.

If your sheet is finished, submit it here so Hillan can see it as well.
