Appearance
Chun is an interesting looking Origin. He has dark brown skin, beady black eyes and a defined, symmetric face with two red lines that start from the bottom of his eyes. He is short, like human child short, and can be easily spotted not by his height, but by his white tail or his thin antennae that stick up out of his head. For clothing, he wears a brilliant red hooded shirt and brown trousers. Pretty simple-looking. His most oddball fashion accessory of his hat. Where he's from, a popular mushroom that grows rather large is used as headwear, and it is this very same mushroom that he wears upon his head. It's enough to obscure his eyes completely from view. All that can be seen on his face is the apathetic frown he carries around all the time. Not so much a frown as it is a neutral not-smile.
Personality
Chun is seemingly generic superficially. He's straight, to-the-point, and honest to a fault (though some would consider that rude). He has no sense of tact and will tell you how he feels whether you can handle it or not. In fact, if you can't handle honesty, you'll only confuse him and earn yourself a lecture on why you should develop thick skin. Chun has no time for games or tiptoeing. Alignment-wise, he'd be True Neutral.
Backstory
Chun was born in the City-State of Babylon on the Terran continent. He is the child of a military official and an educator. Growing up, he felt as though he couldn't find purpose, and despite his many accomplishments, the void of uselessness persisted and thrived within him. After being kicked out of the Arcane Academy he found himself wandering, until he wound up in Velt, temporarily taking up odd jobs here and there as an educator. He wouldn't find his purpose until that special day in a tavern in Velt.
Equipment
Elder Wand: This wand is made from a sacred wood known as Eldraduseur (Elder in human tongue). The Eldraduseur Tree grows only in Terra Nova, and is said to be blessed by the magi of past ages. Choson Staff: A simple-looking wooden staff that is almost twice Chun's height. It is primarily used for summoning spells, Arcane Magic, and the occasional melee scuffle. Magi Record: Essentially a spellbook, journal and data log all in one. The Origins are a race of devout record-keepers. Chun was lucky enough to come upon a book that could be used as a collection of information. He guards this book with his life and for good reason -- his entire life is in it!
Abilities
Folk Magic: This is the magic of the majority of races. It is the magic that humans and elves practice. The most common and easiest to learn but offers fairly weak spells. Weakness? As previously stated, the spells are fairly weak. Perhaps the saving grace is that Folk Magic offers a wide range of support spells which can make the party more effective in battle. Arcane: By use of a wand, staff or other focus implement, Chun can invoke the Arcane Arts, the flashiest and eye-catching magical style currently known. From commanding the elements to summoning fearsome breasts to transforming the self, the Arcane Arts are not to be taken lightly. Weakness? They require the use of a focus element and sometimes even an incantation. Without these two things, one cannot use Arcane Magic. Soulcraft/Soul Art: Powered by the mysterious living essence found in all things -- the soul, it converts this essence into energy which can be used for powerful arts of immense power. However it is very unstable, and is also where the Dark Arts lie. When Chun uses Soulcraft he'll use a series of hand signals followed by an "invoker code" (think Naruto chakra signs and the crap they say pre-jutsu). Weakness? Definitely requires a series of hand signs and a verbal series of words to invoke a Soul Art. Without those two things, Soul Artistry is impossible to command.

... Okay there's some things you didn't mention in the PM's here. ^^; The magic practiced by other races is very much not weak and simple and made for support. There's powerful human witches and Archmagi who very much contradict that, for one point. You don't really go into specifics with the spells he can use as well.

If he went head to head with an Elf or human, both using folk magic, he would lose. He's strong, but I don't want him to be a magic powerhouse. Then he'd be overpowered and not fun to use. "Oh I can use any magic and win!!111!!" Too video game-ish for my tastes.
You don't really go into specifics with the spells he can use as well.

Whatever you call it. It was easier than what I had in mind when I needed to refer to it.
And you don't actually specify what spells he can perform. You say nothing about if he can, say, cast lightning or throw fireballs. I need to know what spells he can cast.

You don't really explain his spells, though. I don't know how good he is at any of these things. And you're still saying all other races use the same type of weaker magic.

I think what Vita's getting at is that you...might've been a bit too laconic with the abilities. I mean, "summoning", for example, could mean a lot of things. To use Final Fantasy as an example, it could mean summoning something human-sized...or something the size of a castle. And you've said that the magic humans and elves use is weak compared to your character's arcane/soul stuff and mainly suited to support rather than offence. Which kind of goes against the OP saying "Elves tend to be excellent at performing magic"...and your saying you don't want your character to be a magical powerhouse, to be honest. Um, anyway, I'm interested in joining this. Just need to work out a character.

Age: Technically 22-ish

Personality: Astrea could best be described as bright and somewhat bubbly. She is happy with what she has most of the time, and doesn't usually ask for any more. She does however like to see big displays of power, whether or not it's hers or someone else's.

Backstory: As a child, Astrea was orphaned by parents she never knew, and was left on the streets to die. However, one day she happened to see a wandering magician performing at a local tavern. Something she saw fascinated her, and she decided to follow the magician. For a while, that's how it was. She would follow him from town to town, scavenging what she could and seeing what he could do.

Eventually, she plucked up enough courage to ask him about magic, and a few days later she was an apprentice. She was about 10 years old at the time, and she travelled with the magician learning magic and the ways of the world. Eventually, she became dissatisfied with regular old magic, she wanted more spectacle than normal magic had. It was on one fateful night that she looked up to the stars, and asked.

"Is there magic in the stars?" She said.

The magician she was travelling with said there was a theory stating that there was, but there wasn't much evidence in favour of it. Over the next year, Astrea would travel the world, struggling to find any information on the theory, and any way it could be used. One day, she left the magician to seek her own answers.

She returned a decade later, charged with a huge amount of power. She showed the magician her new magic, and the magician couldn't do anything but watch the spectacle. After she finished, all her magician mentor could do was hang their head, and say:

"I wasn't really a good magician, you know." The magician didn't really have much in the ways of ability, and even then Astrea had surpassed her astronomically. "And I'm not any better now."

"I know." Astrea said, "This is my goodbye."

She left the magician that day, and left in search of something only she knew.

Equipment: She wears sort of standard comfortable witch clothing and that's just about it. She doesn't have a magic focus or anything because she can cast spells without one. Also, the focus would probably explode.

Abilities: Astrea uses the power of the stars aligned to fuel magical spells and abilities. She can call upon the powers of the constellations in order to do specialized attacks and support abilities. She can cast the spells nigh infinitely, but there are certain limitations.

The abilities require a direct connection to the stars, and thus are best achieved when there is nothing between the caster and the night sky. A connection can be established underground, but this takes a toll on either the spell's strength or the time it takes to cast. It is the same when it is daytime, and both of these conditions can stack.

To put this in perspective, during the night time and when she has direct exposure to the stars, Astrea can cast her most destructive spells almost instantaneously and as much as she likes.

When underground and during the daytime, it would take some seconds of charging to cast even her weakest offensive spells at their maximum damage.
