I've only read some of the first page of the OOC, but I REALLY like how this RP looks. It's like a version of India where dwarves were the once great empire of the known world. Seriously, pretty cool.

I saw the big, green Apply icon under this RP, so I want to ask: is this still open for recruitment, as the button indicates? If so, I'd be interested in making an application.

My current idea is to make a race of amphibious, underground-dwelling creatures based off of olms that revere the ancient Visha as deities, if fallen deities whose mistakes are to be learned from. They'd be blind, very intelligent, and interested in collecting history, ultimately less interested in participating in the wars of the world above than in recording it from as many angles as possible.

I can post at least once every two days.

I still need to finish reading the IC and the OOC, as said, as well as inspecting the character tab in more depth, but I'll do that happily if the thread's still open.

Yup. We don't close RP's because we've never seen a need to.

I like your idea. Get an app together and show us what you can do.

Where would the heartland of the ancient Empire of the Visha have lain?

As of now, I've only completely read the Character sheets, but I see a lot of states formed from conquest following the fall of the Vishput. Given that, some stark contrast seems like a nice touch, so I'm looking at making these guys monks and scholars more than anything else. I'm debating between joining as a nation or just a small temple from which great historians come from. Whichever I make, I want this to have a flooded underground temple or city built from ruins of the Empire.

Any suggestions? What's a good place on the map given that? I'm working on the CS right now.

Samra Raj, it is at the center of the continent and is where all Visha roads lead. Making it the center of their Empire.

As far as I'm aware, that is the heartland of their empire.

At the same time that area is pretty dry. The south would be much more moist. But however you can explain it in the end.

Well looking at the map Sanaatha, Isana, Vara, Vaamat, Agora, and Tatpu were all major Vishput settlements that are right near to a river and aren't already in someone's nation. You could easily explain the flooded ruins by having the wall between the city and river breaking some point after the fall of the Vishput.

Many Visha cities are underground.

Living underground too will also present the unique danger of the Sishkarit. So there'll need to be some warrior-ness to survive. Especially against what's effectively an infinite enemy.

I also decided to not be lazy and decided to at least invest a few extra ounces of creativity by drawing one of my probably long-term characters...

One thing I don't remember seeing talked about: magic. Does it exist? If so, can a species be born with the ability to wield it?

I hate to ask these sort of questions because it probably isn't giving the right impression, but I want to ask before I proceed. I'm deciding on something concerning this species, and whether magic exists is important.

Not really. I'm generally very iffy about magic as a whole, and when it comes down to it I like to see something put into it that's equal to what you want out of it. I didn't approach this RP with instituting rules for magic in mind.

There are however a few scattered exceptions. In the case of Vilage the Gul Shapur that rule Poertia are effectively immortal, but they have to consume human flesh regularly to maintain their immortality or they go insane and feral. And the advances of the Visha may be considered magic in themselves, particularly in their designs for golems/Automatons. But the secrets of the Visha themselves are very far removed and I would rather they not be readily available and known to anyone in the post-Visha world, their secrets died with their empire. All that remains are the bones and a few surviving pieces, but no one would have any idea where to start on them.

That answer works for me just fine. I know how to approach the final aspect of the race now, thanks.

The CS should be completed soon.

Okay. So, I didn't write up a government section yet, and I may reorganize things a little, and I'd be okay with having the area I picked out trimmed down in size, BUT... I have the skeleton of an application ready to go. Here it is.

If anything doesn't jive well with the themes of this RP, let me know.

Two asides: first, I wound up dropping the "worship the Vishput as gods" idea. Secondly, I was listening to this the whole time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQ5xCl8lnl0

That background ambiance may have influenced my writing.

I like the idea. There are only two things.

1: I don't think we want the reason the Visha fell to be summed up in one app by one specific player's backstory.

2: Though we call them dwarfs, they are dwarfs in the sense that they are materialistic and live underground. They aren't "Little people" though. They'd be normal sized and somewhat Elven, just with the one-with-nature wisdom replaced with cold, technological Nietzschism.

I was trying to avoid that while saying "they were one of the many factors," just like all the other rebellions and all that. I should be able to change that. Basically, the point was that their "rebellion," while it didn't involve killing, was as serious as the other rebellions in the empire. Thoughts on how to keep that core concept while making the change?

Didn't realize they were normal sized. That won't be difficult to fix. I'll do that now.

There are a few ways you could go about it.

One way, that would expand on the concept of the oracles as wise and clever, is to say that they were aware of the problems facing the Empire and could see it's coming doom through social patterns, so they did little things to help that doom along. There were in the background whispering the wrong advice into the right ears, and using their position in the libraries to manipulate the flow of information. This would be similar to what you already have, but it give the Visha history a little more breathing room since they would be exacerbating issues rather than straight-out causing them.

Another option is giving that part of their backstory to the uncertainty of history. Some oracles claim that their race brought down the Visha. Others claim that they used their knowledge to protect themselves from the effects of the fall and had no reason to bring it down. When doing things like this, historical obfuscation can be useful.

I like both those ideas. The first one is essentially what I was trying to say, but you worded it much more nicely. The second one... just fits, though, especially with them being historians.

I'll sleep on this and decide in the morning. Thanks for the advice.

I hate clogging OOC threads like this, but:

I'll be finishing the application and the necessary changes on Sunday. I'm going to be leaving my house in less than two hours and I'll be vanishing from the face of the Earth until late tonight.

EDIT: Monday, not Sunday.
