I was wondering, in the interests of fair play would it make sense to have a limit to how many ranked fights you can participate in, in a month?
As you get points even for losing you could potentially overtake everyone just by continuously entering battles even if you lose.

I wasn't thinking of a serious restriction, maybe like you can only begin three ranked battles a month or something, tournaments being the exception.

That is ssomething to think about. though you'd have to lose 4x as many matches as you win to get an equal effect

But if you lose, doesn't the opposing side earn more points, thus, getting ahead of you?

I never understood why we decided to give points for losing. It's like a participation trophy. Yeah you participated and lost, but because everyone wants to feel good, so in order to not hurt your feelings you get points.

Yeah, but you'll still be gaining points ahead of other people.

Essentially, you could lose five matches in a row over the course of a month, and still be ranked higher than someone else who had one long battle over that time and won.

Accepting loss is an important skill in the Arena though, it may even be worth rewarding, though I was personally just for no point loss as opposed to points gained for losing.

I agree you should not get points for losing because of the point you made. A terribad fighter loses and gains more points for 5 matches than a good fighter who wins one fight in the same time frame.

I would have been fine with the no points for losing. because if you lose before other fights are done, you still move up. Rush would have been #1 with 1025.

So why don't we change that rule? If you lose you gain no points. You only lose points if you bet, but you don't lose any for a loss.

Ultimately, I try to keep it as a group decision. So if more of the lot want the change, I'll make it.

Ugh. Sometimes group thought is more trouble than helpful. However if people choose to eliminate the points for a loss rule, the points per win could be altered to a 10% gain. Thus there will always be a base 100 points for a win, but if you faced off against a higher ranked opponent and won, you might gain 110, 120 or even 150 points for that win. It might incentivize people to seek out the higher ranked fighters rather than continually fight the base 100 people and plod along.

To be fair, if we just say from now on there's no points gained for losing it won't affect anything, so this is the ideal time to do it.

Incentive for defeating higher ranked opponent's definitely makes sense, though it might be a bit of a pain to work out. Would it just work by rewarding you with an additional ten points for every 100 points higher ranked they are than you? That seems like the simplest way of doing it.

Essentially. Yes.

A person would win 200 points from someone with 2000. 250 from a person with 2500

It would work a little better if your own points were taken into account, so in that example if you had 1000 points and fought someone with 2000, the difference being 1000 points, you'd be rewarded with an extra 100.

Otherwise you could have two or three very high ranked players essentially fighting each-other and gaining masses of points, and I don't think someone ranked 1900 for example deserves an extra 200 points for defeating someone with 2000.

It works fine in my estimation. We have a fairly decent pool of people, so I don't see as many problems coming out of it.
