Jerry had never been more scared in his whole life, not even that one time, when he went into the shower, but there was a spider inside it already. That was scary, yes, but this... This was terrifying. As the crowd rushed upward, Jerry found himself swept away with them. Into the elevator... Which, in it's ascent, came to an abrupt stop with a screech. Refs began looking around, confused and agitated. Jerry was trying his best to not cry out to his mother, surrounded by scary, smelly outside-people. Suddenly, the roof crunched. Something had hit it, hard, caving in the metal. People began panicking in the elevator, some trying to force the doors... And then the roof gave. In fell the most hideous, twisted creature that Jerry had ever seen. Even scarier than the monsters they showed on the picture-videos during school, about the wasteland.

The monster stood still, for a moment, before it began to do it's horrid work, savagely tearing into Refs with no regard to the bullets that were fired at it. Blood and gore splattered everywhere, some of it even getting on Jerry, a bit managing to find it's way into his agape mouth. Soon, in fact, there was nobody left in the elevator but Jerry and the monster. The monster was large, and frightening. But, now that he was alone with it, Jerry realized something. He was larger. And maybe even... Frighteninger. Both of the brutes in the elevator gave a raging scream and ran at each other.

About half a minute later, Jerry was looking down, body covered in scratches and bruises, at the brutally mutilated corpse of perhaps the first thing to truly make him wet himself. He was bleeding, from his arms, his legs, his chest... But he had won. That's when the elevator began to creak again, this time from the wire that was holding it up. The door had opened, revealing the sheer drop to the bottom of the shaft... And just barely within reach, the emergency ladder. With one leap of faith, Jerry hurled himself out of the elevator and onto the cold steel bars, barely in time to avoid (or perhaps, causing) the elevator pulley to snap, leaving the metal coffin to plummet the rest of the way to the bottom. Rather than wait around, Jerry decided to do what made the most sense: Climb.

About a floor and a half of ladder rungs later, Jerry saw the other elevator: Still functioning, and with people at it! People he vaguely recognized, for that matter! With a great heave, Jerry brought himself out of the shaft and into the hallway, where the trio of Kat, Matt, and Osaki stood. Jerry stared for a moment, thinking of what exactly to say to these people, before finally coming up with the perfect summation. "WE GO NOW!"

Osaki was happy to see Mathew and wondered why he grabbed her taking with her in a run. Until she saw it, Mathew didn't like it either. It was hideous looking. She didn't like rad roaches or mole rats but this thing made them look a lot more pleasing. Before she could react Mathew grabbed once more, this time she didn't encouraging so when he let go she followed. This time they came upon security and things were doing better as they managed to take one down. She saw Mathew move off and dodge the beast they ran from and when she moved after him the creature seemed to be more angry at the security officers who fired at it. She continued to follow behind Mathew until he stopped trying to reach his family on the intercom. What she heard wasn't something she wanted. Mathew had began tear up and take his frustration on the wall. He was coming up with conclusions,.. At least she hoped he was. He started moving again and she followed once more. She trusted his thinking more then hers right now.

We came upon the elevators one was out of service. The other had something come out of it and before she knew it Mathew shoved into hiding. Once the thing was gone they game to a blood bath of refs with guns. Were they the source of the gunfire earlier. Mathew mentioned the Vault doors soon after. They were escaping the vault. She wanted to let her parents know but... No it was too late for them as well as it was for Mathew's the idea of her parents dying to those things made her tear up. Then suddenly they were joined by Kat. She had asked if they were going to the vault doors and she nodded back. Kat then picked up one of the guns and some ammo saying it might be useful. She looked to one of the guns and saw a assault rifle and a 10mm pistol. She did not know if she could wield a assault rifle as well as the others could. If she dug through there was likely another one. She picked up the 10mm and the assault rifle and handed the assault rifle to Mathew. She then picked up a few belts that had clips of ammo to there guns. Not many clips for some where missing due to usage. She handed them around.

"Better then nothing I suppose. I think the surface is our best option. Hopefully we will run to the others..." Then someone yelled over at them. She did not recognize him at first. Jerry was his name. "First we arm ourselves then we go, or would you rather face the next horrid creature without any way of fighting back. Also thanks for letting the creature, who had just left this elevator not even an hour ago, know it is being occupied again with your yelling." She then looked to the ground. "Those creatures,.... Did you notice the clothing they wore. They were once one of us..." She said. She was starting to come to the conclusion that from what she saw that those might have been the engineers she saw earlier. Then again maybe not. It was so weird, so different. "I am ready when you are, no use turning back now. The more we stall the more chances that thing will come back."

Comparing today to "one of those days" would have been a pleasant thought, something to brighten john's spirits as things suddenly and drastically went to shit. the gunfire had stopped for a bit, and before he knew it the announcement came saying the overseers were dead. It was a surreal feeling that, hearing those words that the people controlling their lives and destinies were dead. that lot of news caused him to skid to a halt shortly before even more chaos erupted inside the vault. wondering through the chaos like a lost puppy John was in a bit of shock at what all was happening. vault security rushed around him, booking it full tilt to deal with something. seconds later he saw a bunch of flashes, the sound of gunfire ringing in his ears followed by mangled screams and cries. things today had gone from bad, to the stuff out of the holotapes marked horror show. Ruining back now through the halls he'd skidd to a halt as the corpse of a guard was flung across the hall by something rather large and unseen. looking over to the guard John would shake his head a bit as he tried to sober himself up. this wasn't some B movie night flick this was real.

His first thought was to check to see if the man was alive, though after he rolled the corpse over he found the man missing most of his face. his hands went down to search the body for anything he could use to protect himself but all he could find was a mangled Caravan shotgun. the business end of it all cracked and mangled. large claw marks running down it. But it was better than nothing, grabbing the caravan shotgun and what few shells the guard still had left while slinging his repair kit over his shoulder by salvaging the strap from the shotgun John booked it in the opposite direction. whatever was back there was gonna die to the thing that killed the vault security guard, that much John was certain of.

looking down to his pipboy John tapped the map a few times, erasing his previous waypoint and setting one that would lead him to the elevators. This of course lead to be a very bad idea as that path had him travel straight through the atrium. there he found a few mangled vault dwellers all scattered about and a few of the survivors huddled around a strange monstrous corpse that had been brought down. one of them was huddled around the corpse of a girl the monster killed, one of the girls john had a fling with in the past. man huddled around her corpse was her now ex boyfriend and to say he was mentally destrubed right now was an understatement.

In a fit of nervous twitching and erratic sobs the man lashed out as he saw john. "YOU! You you you YOU! YOU DID THIS!" he'd shout, saliva flying from his mouth as blood trailed down his forehead and his eyes became bloodshot. John could see a nervous and twitchy hand moving to a baseball bat to pick it up as the man righted himself.

"I just got here. " though that only seemed to set the man off into a frenzy as he threw himself at John. Unfortunately for john he managed to witness the man jam his finger into the third yellow button on the side of his pipboy.... VATS...

"Ahhh Piss" were the only words john managed to get out of his mouth before a baseball bat slammed into his gut and then quickly came around before he could react and crashed into his right leg bringing him to the ground. the enraged vault dweller managed to get one more blow in, bringing it crashing down on john's hip before he could even come to terms with reacting. Thankfully for John that little expenditure of VATS winded his crazed and enraged opponent. With one hand he'd bring up the caravan shotgun and pull the trigger firing off the gun and causing sparks to erupt around all the cracks in the barrel. The shot went wide but managed to wreck his pipboy. That was the first lesson when facing off against a vault dweller, take out that damn pipboy, less you wanted it for yourself. with the kid screaming in pain john pushed himself to his feet trying to stand up as he heard a monstrous roar behind him. he'd manage to dodge somewhat out of the way as the baseball bat came back around, clanking hard against his wrench only to have a loud boom echo off as John pulled the trigger a second time, this time, the barrel planted square in the man's face blasting him back a bit and dazing him. John on the other hand wasn't about to see what was coming around the corner, instead he'd rush past the man with a heavy limp he'd just shot in the face and duck around the corner to the elevators.... which he'd frantically press the call button for the two of them. Little did he know, one wouldn't be coming, and the other.... well the other already had passengers... and ammo, but most importantly passengers.

Oscar headed straight for the elevator. On the way, the intercom come on and told him and the rest of the vault news about the overseers, vents and doctors. Oscar did not care in the slightest. Sine Oscar would be leaving, he decided to pick up a weapon. The only weapon he saw that he could use to any effect against a noemal human was a 10mm pistol. He did not know anything about gums but hrle hopes it can help him deter some one. When he got to the elevator, he saw that it was out. He knew he had to find the maintance hatch. With some difficulty, Oscar found the hatch and thus the ladder to the top. It was a long way to the top.

By the time those beasts had attacked from the doctors office Elijah was nearing a maintenance shaft. With the push of a few buttons Elijah was in a very tall room that would lead to the security checkpoint where a lot of the items from the refugees were. Elijah began his ascent. It would be about a six minute climb just to the security checkpoint. Once there Elijah didn't know what he would expect. There could still be guards or those mutants up there. This is quite a long climb. Fuck how on long does this take. he thought. After a few more minutes he was at its exit. "Fuck me. Fuck this is a exhausting ass climb." He said quietly to himself. Once he was at the exit he pushed a few buttons from a inside console and the door unlocked itself. He slowly opened the hatch up and took a look around. It looked like there had been a battle up here and from the looks of it the battle had been won by vault security. But not without taking a lot of casualties.

Elijah slowly climbed out and got into a crouch as he went through the area, he made sure though that the hatch to the maintenance shaft left open just in case he had to make a quick exit. From what he could tell there wasn't anything left alive up here. All the mutants had been killed and the vault guards that killed them had either died up here or made their way back down on the elevator. After doing a quick run through and making sure nothing was left was up here and making sure. He went back into the security office and started going through the dead vault officers gears taking ammo and weapons. After putting it into a smaller pile he started going through the refugee gears that was brought in all those years ago. he started emptying bags and going through separating everything he could. Those who made it out would at least be somewhat prepared.

Jackdaw Missouri

Tagged;; Elijah (Later in post)

Jackdaw hadn't been expecting it...at all. The man had been in the elevator, on the way up to the top floors, assault rifle slung across his back, and his dad's old, weathered 10mm clenched in his right fist, his left fist gripping the underbarrel, ready to steady his aim and flip on VATS whenever necessary. The man's breathing was now calm and even, his golden gaze focused, if not pained and emotionally chopped and screwed - obviously, what he had witnessed...what he had done, it was having some sort of mental effect on him. As he thought about it, his breathing quickened the slightest amount, and Jack forced it to relax, exhaling slowly, and closing his eyes. It was just supposed to be for one second...close his eyes for one second, gather himself, and then open them, ready and rearing to rain Hell down upon whatever was creating this mayhem, and anyone whom got in his way. A rather...calloused and jaded way of thinking, but his mind and body were both tired and bruised, and he wasn't thinking straight...or was he?

It was true that he wanted the creatures to die, just the way things went, but everyone else? Regardless, this wouldn't be happening, because, as soon as his eyes had closed for the brief second, multiple things happened at once. The elevator abruptly stopped, something fell onto it's roof, before falling inwards, and the screaming began. Bullets ricocheted across the wall, but the elevators were much to narrow, and Refugees fell, their blood slapping across his jumpsuit, his face, and his gun. Jack only stared for one second, mouth hanging slightly in pure, dumb shock, before he released his own scream and unloaded a full clip of 10mm ammunition right in it's hideous face. The thing reared back, but didn't appear harmed...at all. As it lashed forward, lunging with speed and power Jackdaw could hardly match, the man twisted on his feet, allowing the sharp claws to pierce the elevator's walls. Bringing his pistol up, he jammed it one...two...three times against the creature's arm, as refugees unloaded their clips within it's back.

Finally, the bone broke from the vicious force, and Jackdaw jerked backwards bringing his gun up as the creature roared in pain. It began it's vicious cycle once again, swinging it's broken and dangling arm around for attacks, as well. This...this was insane. He couldn't beat this creature with only a 10mm...if only he could get closer without dying. Refugees fell, and within minutes, it was only him...and an abnormally large....security guard? Jackdaw's eyes narrowed, and subconsciously ducking underneath the creature's claws, and rolling between it's legs and onto his feet, Jack brought his gun up and aimed it at the guard's head, whom was focused on the creature. If he was going to die...then he would take scum out with him. But...when the man and the creature charged, Jack shook his head, holstering his pistol. If the guard wanted to die, he'd let the creature have it. He began glancing around, and his eyes caught the hole the creature made. Perfect. Tensing his legs, Jack leaped up, his calloused hands gripping the jagged hole the creature made. His form, lean and muscular, was more than enough, and although his body was bruised and slightly tired, the man leaped through the hole, using his arms to get into a standing handstand, which turned him into an upright position.

At this point, he knew what he had to do. This vault had never been his home...at all. Discrimination, bullying, security and admin abuse...that wasn't the way to live. He had better chances leaving this damn Hell-Hole, and trying his luck in the real world...the place his father once knew. As he thought of his new plan, Jack began climbing the ladder rungs swiftly, already having done this multiple times with his dad. As he made it up to about Atrium-level, he saw the other elevator, along with a group of vault dwellers...the people from his old class, it looked like. That didn't matter. He began climbing again, his arms grabbing rung after rung, until he reached the Security Checkpoint shaft, the hatch already opened, it looked like. His eyes narrowing, Jackdaw quietly slipped through the opening, crouching down and grabbing his 10mm. Pulling it up, he slowly stood, his footsteps quiet as he began making his way through the area.

Bodies were everywhere...but at this point, he was used to it and the smell, and the fact that they were majorly security guards squashed any feelings he may have had. His eyes were focused, constantly glaring around. Someone else had to be in here, or maybe they were already dead - a corpse on the cold steel floor? The sound of movement in the security office alerted him, and Jackdaw slid across the floor, back quietly pressing against the wall as he peeked into the room. A man going through and sorting corpses' items and Refugee containers was there. A sharper glance showed him that it was Elijah.

He could be hostile. The thought passed through his brain before he could stop it, and Jackdaw went with the cautious thought, slowly coming out from behind cover. "Elijah." He called out, making sure not to raise his voice. However, just in case, his grip on his 10mm was tight, and ready to blast a hole within the boy's head if it came to it. A tiring thought...but he had killed so many already, what would one more really do? "The Hell are you doing?" He walked closer, narrowing his eyes slightly. Looting corpses so quickly...had the man been expecting this? He didn't know what he thought about doing such a thing...but maybe it was necessary, as it was now. His father had always told him about how violent and miserable the upper world was. He would have to get used to this. Hell...he was mostly used to all this at this point.
As a 10mm clip was thrown towards another pile, Jack's hand lashed out, grabbing the magazine. Smoothly flipping his pistol up, the boy ejected the half-spent clip inside of the gun, pocketing it, before roughly slamming the fresh magazine into the gun. His low, rough voice began again, still quiet. "Nevermind. You're leaving too?" It was more of a statement, than a question. Jack crouched, taking a few more clips of pistol ammunition. He needed something to keep them on...his pockets were not too efficient. There was nothing of the sort here...maybe outside, he'd find more suitable clothing. For now, he'd deal with this. He pocketed the clips, thankful that the jumpsuits had deep pockets.

The small group that had gathered outside of the elevator had gotten in. Matthew, at this point, was kind of leading them. It was not a role he would normally have taken and he sure as hell would not be leading them anywhere once they got out of the Vault. In fact, chances were, he would find the nearest place to get shelter, and then take a very long nap. But, for the time being, his attention was focused on the events unfolding in the Vault. Once everyone was inside the elevator, he pressed the button to bring them to the top level. Red goo had formulated on the bottoms and sides of Matthew's boots. If only it was just goo, but it was a collection of thick blood and guts. It was disgusting and Matthew would wash the boots the minute he could. The rest of the group had already begun looting the corpses. No respect. Matthew would not have grabbed a gun, and would not have one, if it were not for Osaki handing him a rifle and some ammunition. "I don't even know how this works" he said, "I mean. Aim and pull the trigger, right?" He continued. Matthew let his index finger creep over the trigger of the rifle. It felt cold in his hand. It felt wrong. But if the elevator door opened and one of those creatures was waiting, he would hold down that trigger until the beast was either dead or he was. It was not bravery or boldness, it would be a reaction out of fear.

The elevator tumbled up the shaft slowly. Rumbling as it did so. Matthew figured out how to get the magazine out but could not figure out how to efficiently check how many bullets were inside, so he just shook it. It sounded and felt like it was moderately full. After a few failed attempts at jamming it back in, Matthew finally got the magazine to fit into the rifle. As the elevator continued to climb, Matthew began to get a feeling of dread. The adrenaline from the earlier encounter was starting to filter out of his system and he was starting to think more clearly. Fuck, what have I done? He thought to himself, regarding leading these people out of the Vault. Matthew drew on all of the stories he had heard from Refs and his teacher over the years, their stories of the outside world. Nothing they said about it was good. Not one thing. Why had Matthew decided that this would be a good idea? He had no idea. Finally the elevator reached the top. It slowly opened to a dimly lit room. There was no one inside. Not a soul.

Matthew quickly left the elevator and took a few deep breaths. It was nice to get air that was not contaminated with blood and gore. Once he had gotten his second wind, Matthew took some time to analyze the room. It was not that big. There was one computer terminal and across from that, the Vault doors. Matthew made his way over to the terminal. "I may not be the best at tech stuff, but I bet I can get this open. I also want to figure out how to close it right after we leave because I don't want any of those things following us out. Who knows how loud this door will be when it opens" he said. Matthew was playing around with some of the commands on the terminal when he finally figured it out. However, he did not open it right away. "I want to wait at least five or ten minutes, just to see if anyone else is coming up. But we should definitely take up like places to defend this room. Just in case one of those things gets up here. It looks like the elevator is the only way up, so if we just aim our guns at the elevator when it opens, we should be fine. If one of those monsters is inside, we just shoot it to shit" he said, aiming his rifle at the elevator, which closed and was descending.

Elijah was busy going through all the supplies by now whoever made it to the top would have a small amount of food and water both dirty and pure as well as some type of melee weapon or gun. There wasn't a lot of supplies to begin with but it would make their life outside the vault just a tad bit easier. Of course there was the deal with the all the caps around 75 so far. He'd just keep them for himself. As he pocketed the money and voice spoke out causing Elijah to jump. Elijah looked to his left. It was one of his classmate pointing a gun at him. "Hey easy now. I'm trying to get as much supplies ready for those who make it out. The wasteland is going to be hell. You should have heard stories of it at least. Besides the dead aren't going to have a use for their items." Elijah said. "Now put that fucking gun up and help me take stuff some of this stuff into the entrance. First though I need a gun. Also take a pack for yourself. I know they're small as shit but it'll have to do for now." He said as he picked up a dead vault officers sub-machine gun. Gotta get some extra ammo as well, single clip won't do shit. he thought as he grabbed some more clips and stuffed them into his pockets. Once he had a weapon and some ammo, Elijah walked back to where all the supplies where and started grabbing them. Most of the supplies were already in a bag so it would be pretty easy to transport. "You think anybody survived those things?" He asked.

Elijah walked through the door to the vault entrance. Inside he saw several people all of them appeared to be students from his class. "Well no shit. Who would've thought that the survivors of this hell hole would all be from the same class. Everybody grab a bag. I know they are small as shit but it'll have to do for now. Has some food and water in it plus a weapon. Not everybody gets a gun though wasn't enough to go around." Elijah. He walked a bit further into the room and sat all the gear down save one bag that didn't have a weapon in it. Took him a bit of trouble to get the pack secure to his waist but he eventually got it. "So what are we waiting on? Looks like most everybody is here" Elijah said.

Jerry looked rather confused. Wouldn't that be stealing, taking somebody else's bag? It clearly wasn't his, or his name would be on it, like with his suit and his baton. Maybe it was a present? Jerry liked presents. But it wasn't Christmas, so that wasn't likely... Jerry's brain slowly began to process what most people would have understood in a second: This bag is somebody else's, but that somebody else wasn't there, and a lot of people were being killed or hurt, so... Logically...

"You take bags from hurt people? That not fair!" Jerry spouted angrily, pointing an accusatory finger at Elijah. "You apologize or else!" Usually a crime of this nature would end in an arrest, but given the circumstances, and the fact that they were preparing to flee the vault anyway, Jerry felt that a simple apology would be enough.

Kat stepped out of the elevator cautiosly, letting her jacket slide back into position as the elevator descended and the smell left with it. She looked around the room, it was old and dusty. She doubted the computer would even work let alone open the door. Yet Matthew seemed confident in his abilities so she left him to it. She ran her finger along the wall as she walked towards the gargantuan vault door. She looked at her finger, turning back towards the elevator. It was coated in a layer of grey dust. She rubbed her hand on her trousers before looking inquisitively at a half open door near the back of the room.

Kat had seen where the door presumably led on maps all around the vault. It was the security room, either a security guard was in there or one of those...things were. Elijah, who she was now ignoring just for the fact that she couldn't be bothered with him at the moment, had just come from there so she assumed it was safe. She held her gun up as she crouched through the small gap underneath the door and searched the room. Better to be safe than sorry. It was slightly more lit than the vault entrance room, but it was still sort of hard to see. She searched through the room before hearing noise. She pressed herself against a wall before spinning around and pointing her gun at the potential threat. Suffice to say she was sort of disappointed when it was justJackdaw."Oh it's just you, nerd" She said lowering her gun."You realize we're through there opening the door right? You're welcome to come along if you're at all useful" She said in a joking manner.

Jackdaw's eyebrow twitched at the commanding tone, the man not moving to put his gun up. He hadn't just escaped discrimination and undue authority, just to follow some random guy's makeshift orders. Narrowing his eyes in annoyance, but, thankfully, not moving to cause any conflict, Jack snorted under his breath. Turning towards the entrance to the vault, he could hear Elijah talking to others - along with a voice saying something loudly, in very...chopped English. It was something about taking bags from hurt people. It was obvious, from the other man's voice, that he was...mentally deficient, so Jack ignored that situation, making sure that he had everything he needed. Clips for his pistol and assault rifle, loaded in his pockets...Assault rifle strapped across his back, pistol gripped in his hand. He had everything he needed, for now. Standing fully, Jack turned around, about ready to head to the entrance, when a female entered the room, aiming her gun at him. Instinctively, he gripped his 10mm harder, resisting the feeling to automatically load a bullet into her face. These past few hours had really messed up his nerves...

It was the red-headed girl...Katherine. At the joke, Jackdaw snorted for the second time in the past ten minutes, taking a quick glance around. There was really nothing he needed in here, at this moment. He slung a dirty, dark-colored backpack over his shoulder. "No other choice, right?" He replied, cracking his neck to the side, feeling the soreness now that the adrenaline was beginning to drain away. "Let's go." He no longer cared about the Rattlesnakes or any of that bullying, schoolyard bullshit. Things were getting worse and worse, and any pre-established dislike he held for the girl and her cronies was beginning to drain away. Jack walked past Katherine, exiting through the door, and out into the Vault Entrance. He had been here a few times with his dad, to work on some maintenance, but the massive door was still as large and barring as ever. He gazed at the large steel, before turning his eyes to the elevator, narrowing them. There...that's where the enemies would come from. He needed to stay looking there. Leaning back against the far wall, his hands fingering the trigger guard of his dad's old pistol, Jack briefly glanced over to Kat. "Know how to use that?" There was a tint of joking in the otherwise rough, serious voice, but only a little; he was being serious. If the girl didn't know, then that was an increased chance of death. He doubted she was clueless, though. Thugs usually knew how to handle weapons.

They too the elevator was on its way up and she starrd at the ceiling as to not stare at the carnage on the floor. She took from corpses but she couldn't stare to long at them. Once the elevator stoped, she waited for Mathew and Kat to exit first and then she followed. The smell was dry and old ,but it was better then the elevator. They were quickly joined by Elijah and from the sound of Kat's voice, by Jackdaw as well. There group was growing and hopefully for the better. Elijah was bringing out packs for people to grab ,but some of them didn't have a weapon and some did. She moved over lifting one up and pulled it away to look inside. There were food and a few other supplies. She found another weapon inside it as well. It looked like a kitchen nife. She removed it and closed the bag and swung it over her back. Making sure it was secure. She picked back up the knife and slid it in place between her belt. She then stared at the elevator as Mathew was doing and instructed.

She didnt think herself, or Mathew and Kat would be able to take one down. Now that there group was a little huger she had more confidence. Those 5 or 10 minutes would be the longest couple minutes she would ever experience. She sighed and looked to Elijah and Jackdaw's direction. "Did you two come across any other survivors?" She said ignoring Jerry's demand for an apology. How foolish, the stuff was nobodies. It might have belonged to somebody but not anymore.

Down the hallway Ruth was hearing the screams and weapons fire and it was very close. Looking over to the man that she had been talking to before was now standing up walking towards the corridor he poked his head around the corner clearly concerned about what was happening. Whatever he saw clearly appalled him as he looked as white as a sheet. "What's wrong... what did you see" Ruth asked her voice a bit shaky from nerves. The man merely looked at her simply replying "a monster". Ruth couldn't believe what he said so she poked her head down the corridor herself and saw something truly horrifying. Bits of people scattered all over the corridor and in the middle of it all was some monstrously hideous creature but it clearly wasn't always like that as the jumpsuit told her it used to be a vault dweller. However that wasn't the worst thing of all as the creature turned in Ruth's direction clearly knowing she was there. It let out a horrible noise while it moved towards her so Ruth quickly grabbed her belonging running for the only place she could go. Ruth opened the door that led into the mole rat paddocks quickly unlocking them hoping that they would slow that monster down. As if it couldn't get any worse over the intercom heard Hamil saying that the overseers were dead and that he was taking over except it didn't seem his rule was very long after the intercom went dead.

Ruth and her fellow pest controller had been trying to open one of the maintenance shafts so they could escape to the upper levels however it had been Mole Rat proofed making it very hard to force open. When they finally managed to pry the hatch open with a pipe the door gave way letting in two of the monsters. Ruth quickly slid into the shaft climbing as fast as she could not realising her fellow vault dweller got stuck only halfway in. Only noticing when he shouted for Ruth to come back just before he was yanked out of the shaft and all Ruth could hear was a blood curdling scream then silence. Ruth just kept going only leaving the shaft when she reached the top kicking open a hatch leading into the farming area. Ruth was beginning to tear up unable to keep her composure. But she had to get a hold of herself so she gave herself a good hard slap. Now able to think straight again she knew she had to leave the vault as it had become a death trap. However before leaving she stuffed her pockets with as much food as her pockets could hold as their was no telling how long it would take to find food in the wastelands. Plus it was something to trade who knows maybe even used to start a farm. As soon as her pockets could hold no more she bolted down the corridor for the elevator shaft.

Ruth managed to to get to the elevator without much trouble as it seemed those monsters were busy trying to break into people's homes and she was able to find her way past without being noticed. Ruth didn't want to think about how many people were dead or how many were safe. All she had to think about at this moment was her own survival and she had to except whoever couldn't get out on their own were dead. Forcing the doors open Ruth carefully grabbed the emergency ladder as a fall from this height would be deadly. By the time she reached the top she was a bit tired after all the climbing and running she had been doing but Ruth couldn't stop now she just about managed to force the elevator door open. However she noticed that their was an elevator at the top so someone or something must be up here with her so she didn't want to spook whoever was up here with her or killed by one of those monsters. Peaking her head around the corner she was happy to see her fellow students. However they had guns aimed in her direction probably just in case one of those things found its way up. That was a good point could they climb Ruth thought to herself. Quickly snapping out of her trail of thought it occurred to her that she should let them know she was there just incase someone accidentally blows her head off. "Boy am I glad to see guys, say you don't happen to have anymore guns or maybe some spares I could carry" Ruth said as she exited the shaft and entered the room properly. Wanting to be armed if another one of those things came for with more than just stun stick. Waiting for a response she found it surprising that none of the adults made it up. Then again they were probably trying to defend their homes, maybe her family where at home waiting for her. She began to tear up thinking about how she left very one else to die, of course she new their was nothing she could have done. Heck they were probably dead already but that didn't make it any easier.

Kat followed Jack out. She'd never really talked or picked on Jack other than the time she'd slashed his face. It seems he didn't hold a grudge against her for that. But hey, the way she saw she did him a favour, some chicks were into scars, made a man look rugged. To Kat it just made them look like a bad fighter but what could she say, some chicks were into it, just not her. She held her gun loosley at her side as she walked with Jack before thinking about the question posed to her. Her brow furrowed and she thought back to her small amount of training.
"Sort of, I had a little bit of training back when I was like 9 but I haven't really fired a gun since then" She turned her hand over and looked at the guns other side.
"If worst comes to worst I think I should be alright."

Time continued to tick on. Seconds turned to minutes. Minutes turned to, what felt like, hours, but was in reality only about ten minutes. After the initial ten minutes, Matthew checked the time on his Pipboy. A few new comers had joined the group, and each time they appeared, it took all of Matthew's self-control not to open fire on the sudden movement. He was glad he did not shoot because there would be safety in numbers. "Spread the guns around guys, everyone should be armed in case one of those monsters gets up here" he said. Another few moments passed and Matthew decided that it was time to open the door. This is when the real heavy sweat began to form on his forehead and back and arms. If he opened the Vault door, nothing would ever be the same. But at this point, that ship had already sailed. Matthew figured that if he left, he would certainly not be able to ever come back and he would never know the fate of his parents. But if he stayed, that would almost certainly seal his fate. Matthew gave the side of the terminal a light punch out of frustration. "Fuck" he said to himself. He came to the conclusion that he had to open the door. Even though he did not necessarily want to leave, he could not condemn his fellow Vault Dwellers in the room with him to death. Matthew let out a deep sigh, hit a few keys on the keyboard, and watched. A loud creaking and rumbling emitted from the Vault door as it slid open. Small slivers of sunlight crept out from the end of the cavern and into the Vault Security room. The door was now fully opened. Before leaving the terminal, Matthew figured out how to see the door onto an automatic timer. Ten minutes. If anyone else wanted to leave, they had ten minutes before the door shut.

The light was not enticing at all. It was of an orangish hue. It was the outside world. The real world. The sheltered life he had led for 18 years was now over. The harsh realities of living in a post-nuclear world had set in. In all of his 18 years in the Vault, never once had he thought that he was at all affected by the outside world. Not once did he ever feel threatened by it or understand fully what it entailed. And then today happened. Those monsters were almost certainly the result of some kind of thing related to the outside world. And if they came in from out there, then surely there would be more. But Matthew also had a slight hope that there would be more people outside. Civilized people. Maybe a town or two. Somewhere he could just break down and take in the events of the day.

Matthew took his first few steps into the cave. He gripped his rifle tightly. Sweat was pouring profusely from his body. Nervousness enshrouded him. There was an overwhelming sense of dread, a feeling that Matthew had just stepped into the last chapter in the book of his life. A chapter entitled; "Matthew and the Fuckin' Outside World". Things would never be the same. Matthew continued down the tunnel. It was a simple tunnel. Rock, brown in color, and some moss, covered the majority of the tunnel. Finally, Matthew reached the metal door. The real barrier between him and the outside world. Matthew slowly placed his hand down on the handle. A shiver went up his spine as the metal touched his palm. Matthew used the 'fuck it' mentality and slowly pushed open the door. Very quickly he was overcome by the sunlight. It took a few seconds but his eyes finally adjusted. It was amazing. It was awesome. And it was terrible, all at the same time. He, in class, had seen photos of the world before. This place was obviously not the same. There were dead trees, hills, and mostly dirt. Some roads existed still. In the distance he could see small structures, maybe some houses or something like that. The roads had a couple of signs on them. One said "Denver" and pointed off into the distance. The other sign said "Colorado Springs" and also pointed down a road to nowhere. Matthew let go of the door, bringing both hands to his mouth, he was in awe. The door slammed behind him and gave him quite the startle.

All of a sudden a new feeling completely overwhelmed Matthew. His stomach turned and ached. Very quickly he made his way over to a little ditch near the door, bent over, and threw up all of the food he had eaten that day. He threw up a total of three times before he finally stopped. Matthew wiped the residue from the vomit on his sleeve, spat on the ground, and then wiped the sweat from his forehead. Tears started to form around his eyes but he quickly tried to clean them from there. Now he would wait for the others.

Osaki had no time to react for when Mathew opened the door it began to close. She followed after him and into the tunnel. It was dark and had a musk like smell. Light shone from the other side where the metal door was. The last door out into safety. Well she hoped outside would be safe. As she followed after Mathew, she felt a calm take over her. Followed by thoughts of those still trapped within. She hoped that when her mother and father died to those things that at least they wouldn't suffer. That it would be quick. She hoped that for everyone right now. She had nobody now, there were fellow vault citizens with her ,but they were not her friends. Perhaps they could be now, seeing as all they had now was each other.

She looked to see if Kat was anywhere near her as she reached the door. Suddenly light hit her face as Mathew opened it. She tried to exit ,but it was hard to see until her eyes finally adjusted. She held her arm with her left hand while her right held onto the pistol. She stood there taking the sight in and was in awe. It lacked beauty ,but that wasn't what she awed at. The place was dead and buildings could be seen. She placed her free hand on Mathew's shoulder. "One life ends and another begins..." She said. It was something her mother used to say. Words she will never hear again coming from the mouth she heard them from.

She began tearing up at the conclusion that there were faces she will only see in her memories. They were gone now,... Her teacher, the overseers, and countless others. Her hand dropped from Mathew's shoulder to wiped her tears away.

Kat looked over to Matthew and then to the massive vault door as it slowly broke from its rust and spun over to reveal a small, dank, dimly lit cave. She breathed in deeply, look back to the elevator and then back to the cave. She reminisced about her life in general. Her father and mother were most likely dead now. She felt her eyes well up with tears once more, but she quickly wiped the tears away with her finger. Now was not the time for crying, it was the time to stay strong and make them proud. She really wished she had been less rebellious towards her father throughout her life, actually made him proud rather than just satisfied. But it was too late now. She reached into her jacket pocket and pulled out a small switchblade, she flicked it open to reveal a rather sharp, slightly taped knife with a small snake carved in. She remembered her friends and held the knife to her heart, with the blade facing upwards towards her head obviously. She flicked the blade back into the handle and stuffed it into her pocket, making her way into the cave.

Kat let her hand slide along the damp walls of the cave, it was a feeling like none other she felt before. She knew she wasn't prepared for what was outside the vault, but she just hoped it was a lot less gruesome than what was inside it. She watched Matthew and Osaki leave and stood still for a bit. She turned back to the vault before facing the wall and breathing deeply. This was it, now or never. She punched the wall, ripping the door open with all her might and sending it slamming against the wall. It would have been more impressive if she hadn't immediately tripped while exiting the vault. It sent her tumbling down onto the hot dirt. She pushed herself up, examining the strange mineral as she rose to her feet and wiped the dirt from her face using her sleeve. The sun blinded her, she protected her eyes with her arm while moving over to Matthew and Osaki.
"I never expected it to be this...bright" She spoke. Her words were hushed, she had no idea why.
"I can see something in the distance over there and that sign seems to point to them. That seems like a good bet to find other people." Her voice now returning to normal as she spoke. Her eyes had mostly adjusted to the sunlight now, she held her hand horizontally above her eyes as she stared off into the distance.

As soon as he had stepped outside of the vault, Jerry noticed one thing in particular, aside from the bright light: beyond the solid steel walls, the calming ambience of the Vault PA System was nothing but harsh static. At first, Jerry began to panic, unable to hear the soothing sounds that had kept him company for so long. It took all he had not to cry out something stupid, further ruining his relations with the other Dwellers. Fortunately for Jerry, however, a little ding came from his Pip-Boy. He jammed his big meaty palm against the screen, trying to figure out what it was: A new radio station. Jerry gave a little squeal of joy, something entirely inappropriate in the mood of the moment, and pressed it. An upbeat and twangy song began to play, much to Jerry's relief. He had already almost entirely forgotten about what it was that had made everybody so upset in the first place, immersed in the music.

"This situation is not fresh, this is not fresh at all." thought Jolene as she ran, clutching an overstuffed medkit that she had taken from the med-bay moments before. Occasionally, a medical supply or two fell from the kit, leaving a trail of scalpels and various other tools. Currently trampling its way over that trail was one of those monsters, its right arm appearing to have a large tumorous mass in its shoulder, forcing itself to charge on all fours like a powerful gorilla. It was quickly gaining on Jolene, so much so that she could feel its hot breath, and hear its rapid, guttural grunts behind her.

At the end of the corridor, Jolene spotted an elevator sitting quietly some distance away. Suddenly, she heard a scream coming from one of the rooms on the right of the corridor, and felt a rush of air behind her as the monster dashed towards the sound. Realising she had been given some time at the cost of someone else's life, she sprinted towards the elevator door, adrenaline pumping through her system. While she pressed her thumb hard against the elevator button, Jolene grabbed her civilian model laser pistol from the deep pockets of her father's lab coat and waited for either the monster to return, or for the elevator to open. It was obvious which outcome she would prefer.

Finally the elevator opened, and Jolene spun around into the elevator without thinking, only to see a horrific sight corpses...corpses everywhere. The smell truly hit her right then, and Jolene gagged, feeling the disgusting taste of bile rising in her throat. The door was slowly closing, and Jolene tried to calm down her erratic breathing. As the elevator whirled upwards, Jolene finally began to relax, until suddenly a clamorous noise rang out from the underbelly of the elevator, making her jump in fright. She moved to one of the less blood soaked corners of the room and waited anxiously, staring at the middle of floor. Without warning, a twisted claw sprang up from the spot where the sound came from, prompting Jolene to back away instantly. The claw pulled out from the hole, leaving a narrow opening in the metal, in which the monster poked its head through. Panicking, Jolene fired her laser pistol thrice into its aberrant face, stunning in long enough for her to stomp down into the hole. The monster reacted instantaneously, grabbing her right foot with both its mouth and its two hands. Thinking quickly, Jolene loosened her shoe in a flash, causing the shoe to slip from her foot. With the mutant only gripping the discarded footwear, Jolene muffled a shriek, slamming the pad of her now sneakerless foot against it's forehead. It budged slightly, but only responded by swallowing the shoe and snapping, once more, at her leg, beginning to pull its horribly mutated body through the narrow opening. "I'm going to die..." She began to breathe quickly, only for the elevator to ding. Jolene turned, adrenaline sending an extra burst of power in her legs. She practically flew through the tight squeeze of the slowly opening elevator doors, frantically slamming the 'Down' button on the elevator's command pad. As the doors began to close, Jolene saw the monster attempting to slice the hole bigger. It failed, and fell down the elevator shaft, just in time for the elevator itself to close it's doors. The sound of it's high-pitched snarling, and then the impact point...that would stay with her for a while. Jolene shivered, and slowly turned around, just in time to see the vault door completely open, revealing the Wasteland beyond. "Woah..."

Today was a bad day.... a really really bad day. John waited at the elevator only to see the light from inside it rise up through the crack in the door to pass him by.... inspecting the call button again, the thing had been busted up good. taken a few 10mm rounds to boot. Johnny had been in such a panic he hadn't noticed it before. by this time the others were already up, opening the door, and leaving but Johnny didn't know any of this... all he knew was he was down here with those blasted monsters and that had to change and quick. hobbling over to the other elevator door he'd pry it open with a bit of strain before carefully etching himself over to the emergency ladder and climbing his way up. each step felt like it was gonna kill him though, each time he'd move his hand to grip the next handle bar his arm screamed in pain, as did his leg and his hip. Johnny boy was gonna need a doc after this.

Johnny B. managed the climb though, but with barely any energy left in him as he crawled out onto the floor of the top level, pulling himself along with his hands as his legs dragged behind him. looking to the other elevator he'd grimace at the sight of the dead guards and mutilated corpses. groaning though he'd press on. crawling his way towards the exit. he couldn't die here, not like this, not now. a red hue started to encroach on his vision as he could feel his heartbeat in his head, his temples throbbing in tune with it as he made his way down the steps in a haphazard manner. seeing the door already opened Johnny would continue crawling along inch by inch. but as he got closer, his Pipboy's enhancements picked up a radio frequency... turning it on John let some of his mind be calmed by the addition of music which would echo through the cave and towards the exit as he crawled. the pain was intense and boy did it suck to be him right now... but the music helped him forget. not as good as Med-X but good enough. His pipboy's medical readout didn't look good. his right arm and leg were both flashing red and his chest was about three quarters of the way down on it's little status bar. indicators suggested a few cracked ribs.

The others probably heard Johnny long before he came into sight as he crawled along. tool box dragging behind him on a strap, the sound of his pipboy, and the clanking of a pretty mangled shotgun and a large wrench tended to make a bit of noise. When Johnny B. finally saw the others standing by the exit out into the waistland "Osaki... oh good. oh good. Mat. Mat keep you saf...safe did he?" he'd ask, straining himself a bit more as he inched his way closer to the party, crawling on the floor.
